What's happened to Shamsports.com?

Post#1 » by Dunkenstein » Mon Jun 28, 2010 8:31 pm

When I try to open it, I get a message saying it's "unavailable". Sham, have the British authorities shut you down as a subversive? Or are the American internet police stopping me from receiving your pearls of wisdom?

The site outgrew its hosting. Even though I was using about 0.3% of my bandwidth, I was getting too much simultaneous traffic at busy periods, and it caused it to shut down. I upgraded to a new server last night, and things worked again......briefly. But I woke up today to find that GoDaddy had managed to balls up the transwer, and that somehow, the site has broken at their end. I have been on the phone to them all ****ing afternoon, and yet they insist that they can do nothing to change the fact that it will take between 1-3 days to fix. They also don't seem to think that this shoddy service sufficiently contradicts their promise of 98% uptime, so even though they are not providing me with the service I have paid for, they refuse to give me a refund as well. They've said I can either wait it out, or I can cancel my account.

Aren't they just the best? It's almost like they want me to cancel.

The blog still works, but no one reads that anyway.

Sham, I've been reading your site almost daily for the past 2 years now. Do what you gotta do to improve the site - you're never going to lose me as a reader. I really admire the amount of work you put into it. Keep up the amazing work and hopefully all will be back to normal shortly.

I read it. Where else can I find out which former Division 3 player just got a Montenegrin passport so he can play on a B league team in Poland.

Well, thanks.

We decided to take the plunge and invest in a dedicated server. This will probably mean adverts, but it should also mean no more of this inopportune week-long downtime shyte that is such a freaking hinderance. So that's nice.

I'm all for an upgrade in reliability.

Ads are an inevitable reality of internet life.

Kind of. It's only working at a weird temporary address: http://72.9.241.210 I'm trying to setup a load of redirects so all your bookmarks will work.
