I think some of you guys think the Nets will still be in the Meadowlands next season.

the way i see it the only fans that will jump ship are the ones that are bandwagoners by nature. and in that case, you're really doing us a favor by taking them off our hands

The only time I liked the Nets was when they were in the ABA with Julius Erving, they were playing at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island. Now I hate them, would never become a fan in a million yrs.
From what I have read, the Politicians and Business people in NJ are up in arms about this Soviet guy taking the team over, they think he is bad news.
Community leaders and public officials are pushing for an investigation into the business dealings of current Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov.
Brooklyn pastor Clinton Miller and Congressman Bill Pascrell Jr. (D-NJ) have called for an investigation into Prokhorov's for possible illegal business contracts with the repressive Zimbabwe government. This situation could turn very sour for an already struggling New Jersey Nets franchise and certainly wouldn't help the international image of the NBA.

And yet Prokhorov is still a stiff. Come on...you have to admit it. His billions will OBVIOUSLY help but that sign looks ridiculous, no one is going to know who the heck he is and he needs to figure out a way to appear more "fan friendly". I mean I thought he was going to lean over, open is mouth freakingly wide and bite Irene Pollin's head off (right out of some b-rate horror movie) when they announced the Wizards had won the lottery. When James Dolan is like Don Juan compared to Prokhorov in terms of charisma you know you're in trouble.
I think you guys all missed the entire point of that billboard. Its not there for you or to attract Kicks fans. think about the timing and the location.
It will be ready for July 1st. This is part of the Lebron pitch. When the Nets crew walks in and does their pitch...the first thing they are going to be asked...what is your plan to take NY. You have the much better talent to offer as a supporting cast than the Knicks and that will be their question as they are selling me the city. But what are you all about?
And without question when they slap the video on the projector of that huge billboard right outside your building ON recruitment day? it will get a smile. its nothing more than to say....YEAH THAT IS HOW WE ROLL.
And if you are honest...you have to admit...it sends one ballsy message.

That isnt an example of irony. Ironic would be...hey look...the guy who tried to buy the Knicks and save a once great franchise from one of the dumbest owners in all of sports couldnt get him to sell so instead he bought the team accross town, stole the free agents the Knicks were targeting, fans come over in droves, and its the NETS who became the next big thing.
Just saying...if he does what he is trying to do...THAT would be an actually example of irony.

yes, during the jason kidd era- when they went to the finals and still couldn't sell out games.
Some people talk trash about ticket sales, and other talk trash about wins. Remind me...what was the Nets record against the Knicks in games Kidd played for the Nets? I think it was 35-3 including a playoff sweep?
But yeah, as a fan I feel ashamed about those ticket sales...you got us there.

Well, if the Knicks can becomes the Yankees I am sure that is absolutely true.
But...40 years without a title...9 consecutive years without a winning record, 11 years without a playoff win, and 40 years without a title....should the Nets get Lebron and the Knicks are sitting with 4 contracts, a hot mess for draft picks the next few years and trying to beg Joe Johnson to take you cap space...would you at least consider the possibility that those videos of Willis coming out of the tunnel, and Ewing's high top fade are going to be harder and harder to sell as Jeter like?

You want to talk about wins? How many did the Nets have last year with that all impressive core? You think your trash talking but your talk is all trash.......there's a difference....

Aside from Dr. J... the Nets have no history or relevance in the NBA. Jason Kidd made the biggest impact on your team and that was it. Nets have ZERO TITLES, and were a perrenial doormat of the league living in the shadow of the Knicks throughout their existence and especially the 90's. 14 Straight Playoff appearances from 87-88 season to 2002; Willis Red, Clyde Frazier, Earl Monroe, Bernard King, Patrick Ewing

you know there used to be an old NBA video game and I always used to lose to the Nets while playing it. Kerry Kittles always hit every 3 point he attempted, Kendal Gill was like Michael Jordan and even Keith Van Horn was unstoppable. I think thats the last time the Nets were relevant to me.

Nets have as much success in the last 37 years as the Knicks do. 2 finals appearences.
But I have to ask...that pride Knicks fans have in the once upon a time....when does it end? At what point did a Cubs fan say to himself...damn I guess we cant talk about Ernie Banks anymore?
Should a 25 year old LEbron care about you so called history? The Nets team he knows has been run better, and been far more succesful in his time. Both on the court, and in a rebuilding effort.
Dolan has turned that franchise into a laughing stock....and had the highest payroll spent while doing it. For all the greatness the Knicks had once upon a time....it has been seriously paved over through the life time of the very players you are trying to convince to come play for you.
I dont begrudge you the pride you feel....but head to head? Our franchise over the last decade has been far superior in every measurable aspect.

We also made the finals in 1994 and 1999, so 4 finals appearances...and I also believe one more time in the 70's where we lost to the Lakers so possibly 5 appearances.
Dolans checkbook makes him an ideal owner if there is a good GM under him. He's not a bad guy...he just knows nothing about basketball. Also not sure if it was his idea to make bandaid moves the past decade or Laydne/Isiah but if it was then yeah thats a terrible attribute. We'll see if Donnie hires a good replacement and how it goes from there before we can judge Dolan wholeheartedly.
But yes the past 8 years were terrible for the Knicks. But you also have to look at this... the Nets were relevant from 2001 to about 2006...but thats it. Rod Thorn did an excellent job, but 5 or 6 good years out of the franchises history? Come on... And yes you do have a better core than us, but the fact that youll be in Newark for 2 to 3 more years will scare some free agents away and you cant deny that.
