He is also more of a PF than a SF, awful signing if thats the case.... I'd imagine its Barbosa..

Barbosa is not a FA or RFA

Your right, mixed the info up but either way if its Gomes its an awful signing

Gomes wouldn't be a bad depth pick up...but I would love Raja Bell he's what the team needs a wing defender that can contribute on offense.

You would think it should be a center, considering we only have one legit center in Alabi. Don't think it'll be him, but I would really like us to get Brendan Haywood...doubt he takes the MLE.

How come no Toronto beat writer has any scoop. All Doug knows is we're close to signing A free agent, but has no clue which one??? Wth?!?

Thats what ive been thinking the last few days too! I could seriously write the same articles from Slovenia.. Rembember the last one a few days ago, where he said they are talking to 4 players about the MLE but he doesnt have any names. And then goes on to write an article about 4 players he thinks would help us and we could get  This guy really is useless, beat writer my ass :banghead:

In 5 posts this thread has gone from "Ryan Gomes strikes me as the kind of player BC would go after" to "I can't believe BC would sign Gomes to the full MLE". jfc.

This would put us at around 60 - 61 M

That is 8 M away fronm luxury tax

I think This would mean there is no Bosh Sign and trade to a team over the cap ( as we would have to take back 13. ) And I don't see us having a payroll around 74 M and well into the luxury tax

I wouldn't be opposed to a short deal for Ilgauskas or at least throwing an offer at Shaq. He can come to a city he likes, collect a paycheck and nobody in the U.S. will have to see the embarrassing end of a NBA legend's career..similar to when we signed Hakeem.

Excellent point. That would rule out the rumoured Cle trade.

not sure if you've seen this

Doug Smith of the Toronto Star lists Matt Barnes, Ronnie Brewer, Shannon Brown and J.J. Redick as potential targets.

Its more than likely gomes since he is a defensive SF. It could also be childress as ATL will give him up to pay JJ his money.

I think Childress is an option, as Atlanta will not be able to match after signing JJ.

This is not really adding up for me. What is the direction of the franchise? Are we rebuilding with kids, or trying to go for it? Doesn't it all come down to what we get back from Bosh leaving? Ryan Gomes is not a differencemaker. He's not someone we need if we're rebuilding. It would have to be a differencemaker for this to make sense.

Just got off the phone with Dougie.
His spidey senses are making him believe that this will mark the return of one of the most popular Raptors of alltime. Doug is predicting the return of Vincenzo Esposito.

Ok never mind

Brewer is a versatile wing that would fit BC's mo ...would need to move someone else though

I've always liked Barnes but I think he wants to go to a contender
Childress is another interesting option

Ryan Gomes is more Power Forward than Small Forward, he is a tweener stuck between positions, unable to guard quicker small forwards, no handles to create on the wing but lacks height to play as a big...

He is a tough hard worker with a decent mid range jumper but thats about it, if your expecting him to become a full time small forward and lock down quicker wing players your in for a surprise..

I'm not sure where or when he became a small forward but as long as i've watched him he has played mostly as an undersized PF....
