Hearing from the Minnesota board that his contract was really not that sought after because of the buyout. From Sham's site, it looks like Gomes had two years guaranteed at 1M each and the last at 750k. It would seem that Minnesota could have traded for nearly 6M in salary and the recieving team could have pro-rated the 2.75M over atleast two years and possibly three.
The Blazers seem ready to pay 2.75M before the deadline. Does anyone know what the official cap charge will be for the next three years?

Re: Ryan Gomes Buyout
Are the Blazers really going to buy him out? Why?
He's a useful player, and waiving him neither gives them capspace nor reduces their luxury tax burden (since they don't have one). I think they should just keep him (or trade him if they don't want him).

Re: Ryan Gomes Buyout
I'm sure their intent is to trade him on somewhere, but the Blazers don't really need Gomes the player. So if you've got someone you don't need, and can waive him for savings, may as well do that.
Anyway, I don't really understand the question. But as things stands, if Gomes is waived, he will be on the cap for $1 mil in 2010/11, $1 mil in 2011/12, and $750,000 in 2012/13, for whichever team it is that waives him. If that team can convince Gomes to take less than $2.75 mil in a buyout, those numbers will be edited downwards accordingly, at the same percentages as before.
But I don't see any reason for Gomes to take less money.

Does him signing with LA affect the amount of that buyout and/or Portlands 2010-11 and future cap hits?
