Rockets sign Brad Miller

Post#1 » by Sports Arsenal » Sat Jul 17, 2010 6:21 pm

As expected according to:
http://twitter.com/STEIN_LINE_HQ

ESPN.com sources: Rockets reach terms with C Brad Miller on three-year deal worth nearly $15 million. Link on the way

Good addition to the front court, didn't want to spend the whole MLE on him, but big men don't come cheap and we needed a quality big with the uncertainty of Yao.

3 years for 15 millions

guess we spend most of the MLE

i was thinking 3 years for 10 millions using the trade exception

15 players under guaranteed contract
C - Yao, Miller, Hayes
PF - Scola, Hill, Patterson, Andersen
SF - Ariza, Battier, Budinger, Jeffries
SG - Martin, Taylor
PG - Brooks, Lowry

damn all 15 can crack the 9 men rotation

i had a stupid idea on instead of regular 9 men rotation
we should do matchup rotation

for example
against team with only one elite SG/SF players (like Denver), Ariza or Battier will start along with Martin
against team with two elite SG/SF palyers (like Miami), Ariza and Battier will start
against team like Golden State, we should sit Yao
playing all 82 games is overrated
the most important thing is keep everyone healthy for playoffs

Yao/Miller/Hill
Scola/Hayes/Patterson
Ariza/Budinger/Jeffries
Martin/Battier/Taylor
Brooks/Lowry/Smith

Leaves no room for Andersen,Johnson,or Harris... Good luck to all of those guys.

Andersen has guaranteed contract
he's staying
unless he see no playing time and seek a trade or a buyout and return to Australia

johnson and harris shouldnt even play ahead of andersen or jj. mroey said patterson needs time. i got no problem w/ hayes playing 20min.

i guess we're contenders now, but more like darkhorses. im still not 100% convinced tho, need to see them play, or make another move but doubt that

Jeffries can play matchup min
we are going to keep his expired contract till after trade deadline
hopefully that plus Ariza/Battier to get us an elite player

Yeah but supposedly we are looking for a third point, Andersen can be traded for an unguaranteed contract.

I like our offseason. We kept Scola and Lowry, added a promising rookie, got Yao injury insurance. No huge moves, but let's face it: big splash moves with a team like ours are going to be hard to come by. It's hard to make a huge upgrade to our team. We've got an all-star center, a borderline all-star SG who's ridiculously efficient, the MIP, two great defenders/roleplayers, a solid PF who won't be affected much by age, a backup PG who could start for a few teams... plus two young studs in Budinger and Hill.

Adding a big name FA like Bosh was a nice pipe dream, but the pieces are in place. We've got a good shot this year, guys.

I'll rather sign Jeremy Lin to be the 3rd PG
Ishmael Smith don't belong to this league
we will be okay without the 3rd PG
both Brooks and Lowry can play 40 min
Taylor can take over the other 8 min
our plays involve lot of players movement
not so much PG play making skill

Wow, what a lavish signing. I don't mind Brad Miller, but $15m/3-year was totally unexpected.
Hopefully, the 3rd year is a team option.

Good pickup..This team if healthy, on paper looks like they can compete for a 4 or 5 spot in the west.

I think this signing will be very good for our flow on offense. It never hurts to have a passing big man with range on his shot. Now all we need to do is sign Rashard McCants for our backup SG and we will be set for the season.

Not happy about this signing, but he fits well with Kevin and he can hit the open shot. He's not bad for a backup.

I like it. Makes a ton of sense, and I feel like most players on our team would be fine playing in this kind of system... we don't have a ton of egotistical players. Most teams wouldn't be able to do it.

I don't think there's any likelihood of trying it, but... it makes sense.

Why not? I've read about his supposed attitude problems, but after reading quotes from other players he seems like he may just be an introvert. He is very talented and could fill a weakness in our roster admirably I would think. We've taken chances on Artest and Bonzi (two criminal headcases) but not this kid? Houston may be the positive environment he needs to blossom. Besides, he would be a starter type of talent at a bargain basement price. Sorry about the sidetrack, now back to being happy about the Miller signing. :D

We already have Budinger and Taylor who can play the 2 guard.

We dont need McCants, we need McCans.

We have 15 guranteed contracts. 13 of them already deserve good minutes. No point in going after anymore role players.
But do you know what they call a fool, who's full of himself and jumps into the path of death because it's cool?

Rockets sign Brad Miller to three-year contract
By JONATHAN FEIGEN Copyright 2010 Houston Chronicle
July 17, 2010, 1:54PM

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/spo ... 12737.html

Still searching for a backup center with their own free agents locked up, the Rockets reached agreement on a three-year deal with center Brad Miller on Saturday, Miller's agent Mark Bartelstein said.

The deal is worth roughly $15 million, $5 million for each of the first two seasons with $1 million guaranteed in the final season.

“His relationship with Rick Adelman was huge. He has great, great respect for Rick. He loved playing for him. Daryl Morey did a great job recruiting him the last two weeks. With Yao (Ming) back, the Rockets have a chance to be really good. All that made for a great situation. He’s really excited about it.”

We officially made the playoffs. There's still a season left to play but if they're already crowning a lakers three-peat, would it be too much to say we're in the playoffs? I think we make a push for a one year rental from paul or melo this season.

Return to Houston Rockets
