Damn 2010...not the pick I wanted to see walking in the door. DAMN! I thought I was going to shock the masses and bring Rubio to Dallas. I passed on some quality PG's already knowing I was going to take him with my 3rd. Didn't think anyone would scoop him before that.

NOW the picks are about to start getting interesting. This is where RealGMs prove their mettle. The 4th pick is where you start to see the overall vision of where a team is headed and if the executive in charge knows what he's doing and has a plan.

Rubio has assured us that he is prepared to pay the balance of his buyout himself and is eager to sign with the Lakers and accept the challenge of being our starting point guard, joining Kevin Martin in the backcourt and Danny Granger on the wing. With the opportunity to win a championship in LA and with business opportunities in the endorsement heavy market of Hollywood, Rubio will more than make up for salary lost in his quest to play in the NBA as a member of the Lakers.
(see above)
Question for the commish as well as rival GMs. I drafted Ricky Rubio. Can someone please clarify how players who are Euro draft rights to NBA teams that have not yet signed a contract in the NBA will be judged in this B.A.T.
Basically I'm asking if Rubio will be judged as my starting PG or not. I've been told by someone that he won't be viewed as a starter but rather just an asset who has no real game value as per the judging of this contest.
I understand the rules state that we may select international prospects, but that their eligibility is determined on a case-by-case scenario of judgement. Well in my case, the only reason Rubio is not in the NBA is because he does not want to play in Minnesota or any small market city. As the GM of the LA Lakers he would come report immediately (as in the actual NBA season if the Lakers OR Knicks *hint-hint* acquired him he'd be a sure-fire bet to report and pay his buyout).
Please clarify, to anyone who is in the know...thanks in advance!

I forgot that he can be taken now in this BAT or I might have targeted him early on as well. I was actually about to post a "you can't draft Rubio" response to 2010 but then thought about it and realize "oh yeah you can, crap"
My guess is a good number of GMs didn't think he was available to be picked...so yeah you probably would have made a splash.

As far as I'm aware it'll be judged based on the opinions of whoever is voting and dependant on each of the categories/title that the voting will be for.
Your original writeup about picking him does make sense. I would imagine that if it was the Lakers that drafted him in the 2009 draft instead of the Wolves that he'd likely have been here already. So if I were judging I would take that into consideration (that he will start for your team). The only thing that would hold up that opinion is if he simply cannot realistically get out of his current contract overseas. Then, yes, he would just be an asset and not a player on the team.

I view Rubio as an asset for this B-a-T and a very good one at that. Someone that will help you in the "team for the future" judging, but I don't see him as a player that will help you win this year, considering he is not in the NBA. But that is just me, that is the way I thought about Rubio as a potential target.

That's exactly what I've felt and had been discussed when selecting these international prospects. If Rubio was determined as someone who could come right in and start on your team, I would have selected him at #25. But...the fact that he isn't going to play on an NBA roster this year, means he shouldn't be viewed as a player on someone's roster for THIS year.
He's definitely a great asset for the "future" category...but acquiring the rights to these Euro's was a means to establish assets that can be judged as to the state of your franchise...not to magically appear on your NBA roster.

I wont be around the a computer for most of the day (on vacation). If it gets to my next pick (I think 5 away) and I'm not around, somebody shoot me an e-mail with who's been pick since I selected, and I will send them back my next selection.
