Nuggz/Clippers/Wolves

Post#1 » by Devilzsidewalk » Fri Aug 27, 2010 3:48 am

ok here's the basis: Clippers offer Kaman/Aminu/MN 1st rounder for Carmelo. New Dnvr GM likes it and takes it to the owner, owner says "you gotta cut some payroll too, I'm not paying out the ass for a Melo-less piece of **** team" Denver GM sees MN's 9 mil in capspace, says to Kahn: "give us Brewer and take Birdman and JR Sprewell, we'll see that your first rounder goes back home"
to even things out, MN gives Koufos to LAC and the Utah first rounder to Denver. Optional: Hayward for Balkman

To Denver

Chris Kaman
Aminu
Brewer
Utah 1st rounder

To Minnesota

JR Smith
Birdman
MN 1st rounder returned via Clippers

To Clippers

Carmelo Anthony
Koufos

It's interesting, but that's a lot of crazy being added to the Wolves.

imo its well worth it to get the first back and cover our ass. JR is expiring and Birdman is around Pekovic money for a really good shotblocker, we could move him I'd think.

Wolves get knocked out. Our future 1st is the most valuable part of the deal not named Melo

I like the way you think DSW.

I believe MIN gives up $7.6 mil of its cap space and Brewer to get back the pick, which is $15 mil savings for DEN .. quite possibly worth more than the pick.

We don't "give up" anything. We get two players with net positive value in return.

What phrase would you like? It costs real money to pay them.

JR Smith just choked somebody though. Knowing Kahn's mouth, he could be next.

The only way that works is if we get CP3 via a Rubio trade. No way Melo would stay here without another star.

We really have a decent team for Melo, maybe not THE best but better than some of the other destinations. We have a solid C, beast PF, decent young wings, and PGs are a lock & will be very nice *Rubio*. We also have depth.

He should at least mention us. He talks about all this "creating a dynasty stuff", start it here. Laugh all you want but if we add that number one & get some vets, we are a very good team.

Its a little discouraging that everyone thinks we are going to suck so bad the 2011-12 season to make this trade a good / great deal for us. I think I'm done with the Wolves if we are still in the bottom 10 teams in the league in 2011-12.
As for the trade, I probably wouldn't do it, mostly because I want to see another year out of Brewer, but it does seem like fair value in return for us. Denver obviously gets screwed by Carmello forcing his way out, and the Clips make out good.

I wouldn't think we'd suck that bad either, but it's an insurance policy and even if its a #15 pick or something, it's worth it to me. I can't imagine any other team taking both JR and Birdman while giving up a decent small salary player, so if Denver wants to save money this year, their options are limited. Otherwise Denver can take the best offer for Melo, but I don't see them dumping much salary, and now they'll have a very expensive non-playoff team. I'd be very surprised if they'd rather keep MN's pick than trade JR for Brewer and dump Birdman, too huge of a guaranteed financial commitment for a non-guaranteed chance on a draft pick.

The parts are cool in this deal. But will be very surprised if Melo is a Clipper?

Timberwolves have to make a serious pitch to Melo in light of this recent news.

Hollinger agrees that DEN will go after cap savings. He lists CHA's Dampier contract, but our raw cap space does the same thing for the Nuggets. Few owners, even in bigger markets, want to pay over the lux for a team that's not a contender.

http://twitter.com/johnhollinger

If Nuggets do hold a Melo auction, my $$ is on Melo to Hou in a three-way with Charlotte -- Dampier to Den (gets under tax), Brooks to Cha.

.To clarify earlier post, Den would get much more than Damp -- get the NY picks from Hou, for starters. Only got 140 characters.
