Kobe:2 retired jerseys or 1?

Post#1 » by ROballer » Tue Sep 7, 2010 12:58 pm

Just saw an article posted yesterday on Latimes questioning this.
I mean, can he be the first player who has 2 jerseys retired or he will be asked to choose one of them(an option suggested by the editor of the article)?

He has accomplishments with both jerseys,3 time NBA Champion, numerous all star games, all nba teams and all defensive teams,81,62 in 3 quarters,4 50+ consecutive,35 ppg season with no.8

2 time NBA Champion(for now),2 times Finals MVP,1 time MVP,along with his usual all-star appearences, all nba teams and all defensive teams with no.24

So what do you guys think?

I've pondered over this before - I say his 24 is retired and that's it.

It'd be cool to have both taken off the floor though.

24 Will be retired. It will become and unspoken or unwritten law amongst the Lakers Org that no one wears 8. Unless the player is an ultimate G.

Rook:"Hi I am the Lakers new starting stud shooting guard. I was 1st pick in the 2016 NBA draft..." :D

Lakers Jersey Guy:"So..." :uhoh:

Rook:" I led my college team to the NCAA chip, maybe you heard of me." :)

Lakers Jersey Guy:"Whats your point rook." :-?

Rook:"None actually but I was sent here by Mr. Mitch to pick up my Jersey and pick a number." :-?

Lakers Jersey Guy:"Ok what number you want?" :uhoh:

Rook:"I was really hoping for number 8."

Lakers Jersey Guy:"Ha! You're funny."

Rook:"Why not? Its not retired. So what if Kobe wore it 24 has been retired. Not 8 WTF!" :curse:

Lakers Jersey Guy:"No one gets 8. Unless you've gotten 8 rings... Like Mr. Bryant." :wavefinger:

Rook:"OMG Whatever! Give me 23!" :eek1:

Lakers Jersey Guy:"Sure thing."

I would pick number 8 or 8/24

Number 8 =3 rings, 81,62, avg 35
Number 24 = 2 rings(mabey more), more leader.
Lakers 72,80,82,85,87,88,00,01,02,09 and 10 champions

Should be 24 because that's the number he will retire with, besides I think it would look better than 8
next to these...

I think in general 8 has style. It's funky.

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_National_Basketball_Association_retired_jersey_numbers there has never been a #8 retired in history.

Yes, 24 reflects his new image, and a new Lakers era, but I don't think we can discount the original Black Mamba...

Saying that it'll probably like H00p said and retire 24/unspoken rule....

But if they did retire both, it's not like anyone would miss it. And hell if somehow Kobe wins enough rings, they might just retire both

Hell if Kobe gets 6-7 Rings for the Lakers, Not only should they retire #8 and #24, they should also retire the letters K,O,B,E,R,Y,A,N & T.

What'd I miss...why are we trying to forget number 8?

We're acting like just because Shaq left like he did we'd trade his titles. I wouldn't give up those years for much of anything, they were entertaining as hell.

Break the rules, or rewrite the rules. Lakers do it your way. Retire both. Why not. Have 2 Kobe numbers on the wall or do a split with 2 on same one. Its our house and we will do it our way.
