They hate Vujacic, Lukes deal is too long, Bynums too injured and not being moved anyway, LA 1sts are worthless, etc etc

Is this the team, as constructed, for the 3peat run?

The team that won in 2009 basically remained unchanged when they won in 2010. The only change we was replacing Ariza with Artest. The front office obviously has complete confidence in the core of the team (Kobe,Pau,Bynum,Odom,Artest,Fisher). No major changes were needed so all Mitch really had to do is fill the roster up with role players. Farmar was replaced by Blake who is a better fit for the Lakers anyway. The addition of Barnes was key because of the uncertainty surrounding Luke Walton and there won't be a need for Kobe to play minutes at the 3. Theo was another solid signing because he can reduce the minutes our bigs play especially if one of the main bigs get hurt.

The Lakers won back to back championships with Bynum playing a reduced role due to injury. Now imagine if he was never hurt. The Lakers would have dominated the competition and people would have been saying how dominant this team is. If he can stay healthy the Lakers are more than ready for the 3peat.

that "imagine" part of your comment in regards to Bynum injuries is HARD to do considerating it hasn't come CLOSE to happening.

Lets trade our top 5 center who has been a 5 year project after winning back to back titles for someone who is not guaranteed to make us better???

If its not Dwight then the answer is NO
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

this board understands what it takes to win championships:

DEFENSE.

more specifically, big, tall, interior defense.

If the Nuggets are moving they will be looking for young talent in return for the rebuilding process. The Lakers just don't have the young talent that the Nuggets would be looking for.

And also why would the Nuggets send a top 10 player to team in their own conference especially the Lakers. Melo is going east whether its the Bulls, Nets, or Knicks I dont know but he's going east.

If he goes to any Western Conference team I feel it might be Houston. Rumor is it would be Kevin Martin, Shane Battier (expiring), and the Knicks 2011 first round pick. Sources are saying that Melo wouldn't resign with New Jersey if he was traded there and that the Knicks don't have exactly what the Nuggets are looking for. The Bulls are said to be out of the running because they won't offer Noah. So it really looks good for Houston now. Generally teams don't trade within the conference but I think this might be one of those rare cases. The Nuggets will be in rebuild mode once Melo is gone so I don't think they will care too much if they aren't able to beat the contenders in the West.

martin is older than melo, not sure how that vibes with the idea that the nuggets would be rebuilding.

You're right. I guess rebuilding wouldn't really be in their plans if they traded with Houston.
