The new CBA will be as much about the small, mid-market & corporate Teams versus the big spenders as it will be about the owners versus the players.
The ultimate do over would allow each team if they wished to keep one player.
A hard cap would be imposed lets say 65 million and for a period of 2 or 3 years with that one player could exceed the cap by a maximum of 5 million $ with with a penalty of 4 times the amount over.
So 5 million over would cost 20 million in luxury tax.
After teams selected that one player each team would have its name put into the ping-pong balls and the order of the 1st round of the draft would be selected that would continue until 12 rounds have been concluded. The maximum number of player would be reduced to 12.
This would be hated by Miami, Dallas, LAL, Orlando, NJ & a few others.
All player contracts would be voided with the exception of the pick that team choices to keep who's contract that they had previously signed would be honored for 3 years.
The initial draft would pay the following
1st 14 million but could be exceeded by 5 million but a 4 x luxury tax
2nd 12 million
3rd 10 million
4th 8 million
5th 6 million
6th 4 million
7th 3 million
8th 2.5 million
9th 2.0 million
10th 1.5 million
11th 1million
12th 1 million
The maximum guaranteed contract would be 3 years for number 1 pick from 2 to 7th a maximum 2 years over that one year. The team that selected can set the time frame but not to exceed the guidelines. after the 2nd year the salary numbers will disappear but a hard cap of 65 million will remain in force.
Would be great for the fans............Who would each team keep?
Would Miami keep LBJ or Wade. LAL Lakers would they keep Kobe costing them likely 20 million a year or keep Gasol. It would make things interesting for a team like Washington or LAC with Wall and Griffin keeping thee contracts would benefit them financially both on Rookie contracts.
For all owners it would rid them of horrendous contracts and reset everything.
I know this is extremely far fetched but would make a very competitive league.

I think you've successfully come up with a plan that both the league and the union could agree on. They would first look at it, each have a little chuckle, then crumple it in a little ball, and throw it into the nearest waste basket.

not saying that they wouldn't at the same time would be great for the fans and in the end the league.
On the owners side think a number of teams would embrace it just to rape some teams like LAL, Miami.
