The Wiz's front court has Hinrich in it. Can't call a front court with a point guard in it "for real". Blatche and McGee are quality, though.

It was interesting to see the Wizards start Wall, Areansa, and Hinrich. They were +27, in the 28 minutes Kirk played, with most of the other starters in the teens. The game was on in Dallas, but I did not watch, so do not know what positions they were really playing.

Re: OT: Flip calls Kirk the 'glue guy'
It is hard to go back in time....but being that the cap came in higher than expected....we could have kept Kirk, signed Boozer, and signed a different SG.
As Mos pointed out, Thomas and Bogans could have signed after we used up our cap space.
But hindsight is 20/20
And our "SG by committee" is the exact reason why wanted Matthews in the first place. I wonder if he was ever on the Bulls radar...or if Portland's offer ended all thoughts. (It is also the reason why I want Afflalo on this team).
---------
Also, I know there is a lot of talk about Morrow. He is another guy I had wanted for a while (along with Bell). But please remember, the Morrow talk had started long before Kirk was traded and before Korver was signed. We had different needs at guard before Kirk was moved. With Kirk still on the team, we had a guy that could handle the point, defend, and knock down threes (sometimes). But once he was gone, we had to get a defensive SG, a three point SG, and a back-up PG.

Re: OT: Flip calls Kirk the 'glue guy'
Meh.
Kirk simply isn't worth his deal, so from that perspective I have no problem with him in another uniform. I understand the loyalty to him, much like many still has to Ben Gordon, but fact is we turned the page. Neither player is no longer here, and both are on deals that we can live without.
IMO, this also carries some psychological importance in terms of actually breaking with the former core. Hinrich was often a main reason for lost games, with his ability to become invisble in late game situations. While Deng does share some of that problem, as well as being a part of said former core, he makes up for it with height and more consistent production.
I'd rather have Brewer, Korver and Bogans than Kirk to be honest. If Bogans had been on the Jazz, and those three had been offered for Kirk in a deal, I reckon this board would have said hell yes right off the bat.

Best of luck to Kurt and his glue business.
14 years is a nice run but it's time to end the Paxson era.

Wiz are going to be good did you see that Wall to McGee lob? I live in dc and I effing hate the Wiz but i might change my tune. Got a ton of good storylines
Its also much easier to trade those 3 on 11mil than kirk on a 9mil deal for a consolidation move. Which is going to happen in the next year or two. We finally have tradable pieces for fillers.

In hindsight, I'd prefer to have him back. But so what?
If you could have Kirk or Brewer and Korver would you really still take Kirk?

I sure as hell wouldn't.

Jordan never fully understood basketball. He had the lowest basketball IQ of any NBA "superstar" in history.

Of course, Kirk is a better defender, shooter, to spread the floor, and as good a backup point as you will find.

I'd probably rather have Kirk than Watson and Brewer. I don't know for sure if that could be done, but if we could Bogans and Korver, I'd rather keep Kirk and start him at the 2, even though he often sucks.

Eh, not a fan of paying a guy 9M to play out of position, shoot inefficiently and pound the ball.

No. That's why I asked if we could have Kirk and Korver, but not Asik, Bogans or Brewer.

At the end of the day, the Bulls are real close to the cap right now. The trade of Hinrich and that pick freed up roughly $10M of capspace. You can pick any combinations of additions from this summer that add up to $10M and say that's what trading Hinrich got you.
Conversely, you could also just find $9M in salary on the roster in additions and say, I would rather have Hinrich than these guys. For example, Brewer, Watson and Bogans.
Personally, I think that if Brewer is healthy, he will be a Kirk replacement. Better in some areas, worse in others but roughly fills the same role with the same skill. Since Hinrich makes double what Brewer does, I think it was a good exchange.

But you could have had Kirk, Korver, Asik, Bogans, Thomas, the 1st round pick, and even Watson, just not Brewer, and a couple $M in cap space, and Kirk is better than Brewer almost everything.
The roster with Kirk, and the 1st ($1.5M) instead of Brewer, before signing Bogans, and Thomas adds to $57.5M, then sign Bogans, and Thomas to their minimum deals $60.5M, so you could have everyone, except Brewer. Or forget Watson, if you want since you have your backup PG, and the 1st round pick, at whatever position, and you are back below the cap at $57M, slightly above your current level.

Glue is nice for afterschool arts and crafts, but for what were trying to build, we need nails and hammers

Good for Kirk, I've always been in the belief that a change of scenery might help him better than being the Bulls ambassador.
I wouldn't be surprised though if we tried to bring him back at the end of his contract, and he'll probably be apart of the organization when he's done playing.

Pretty much. Ronnie just has to get and stay healthy. But its not like Kirk was a ironman either.

If nothing else happened this offseason I would have ranked our offseason as a B- for dumping Kirk
Yes, I'm a hater, and Hinrich is one of those players I hated 70% of the time
