Never been to Rehab at the Hard Rock, but based on the reality TV show they do on it every week, it looks AWESOME.

eats: the peppermill(24 hours) - located across the street from circus cirucus. sams town buffet - location ummmm your going to have to ask a cabby or check the net for directions but i kid you not they have some of the best fried shrimp i have ever had. there is also a cafe in the paris hotel & casino that is really good but the line is almost always long.
gambling : if your a poker player like myself then bally's is awesome. $300 capped tables with $1-$2 blinds. all you have to do is just sit back and wait for big hands and collect free drinks... AWESOME. then there is always the golden nugget. tournaments are daily and always running. i have seen 5 dollar tables for black jack along the strips but i forget where soooo happy hunting.
shows : DAMN EXPENSIVE but worth it if your into that sort of thing.
night life : ummmm it's vegas. you can always find trouble there BUT there is a strip club called sapphire and i HEAR it's like the amway center of strip clubs. not like i would know about that though.
Sapphire is most definitely the Amway Center of strip clubs! I went out there with some buddies for a bachelor party last year and my jaw just dropped to the floor. Beautiful women everywhere lol!

This is of course excluding the 4-foot spanish women with those cards that line the Strip.

bicatmit wrote:Listen to the local. I'm a pro poker player so I've also lived there for a bit and have been going there several times per year for a while. I'm a bit biased though, because I enjoy spending most of my time at the nicer hotels out there. Fremont Street, downtown, north Strip, and dingy off-strip places kinda give me the creeps so I'm sort of a snob in that regard. Granted, if you want to find the cheapest games and best food values, that's where you'll need to go. I just happen to spend most of my time at places like Bellagio, Venetian, Wynn, Aria, Caesar's, MGM, Mirage, Mandalay, Paris etc.
I'll recommend XS at Encore (The Wynn) as a must-see club but keep in mind that it's one of the most popular in town so be prepared to either wait in a tremendous line to get in or shell out a ton of money for a table. It might be worth it though.....I can safely say it's the best club I've been to and I live in South Beach. Tao (Venetian) and Tryst (Wynn) are two other good mega clubs to check out if that's your thing.
I see you'll be in town on October 29 so it's a must that you catch the Magic-Heat game and I highly recommend catching it at one of the sportsbooks. Every casino has one but some are way better than others. The Bellagio and Wynn have the nicest, most comfortable setups that I've experienced but the sportsbook/lounge at The Palazzo looks extremely nice as well (though I haven't caught a game there yet). The nice thing about sportsbooks is that drinks are free in there just like if you're playing a table game. When the waitress comes around, just ask her for whatever you like and present her with a nice tip upfront to make sure she keeps coming around--don't be afraid to ask for Johnny Black or Grey Goose and Redbull at the nicest casinos like Bellagio and The Wynn. There's a chance she'll ask if you're betting, in which case you might need to show her a bet ticket. In this case, just grab one of the many used tickets left behind by people who lost their bets. There's also a chance she'll ask you for a drink ticket. In this case, you'll need to actually place a sports bet and ask for some free drink tickets. No biggie...put down a small bet...hedge it if you're not the gambling type...and get trashed while watching the Magic bounce the Heat in their home opener.
Be prepared to deal with the fact that everyone in Vegas will be rooting for the Heat. I watched the 2009 Playoffs out there and it was painful hearing all the bandwagon Cleveland fans root against Orlando...and then all the folks in from LA rooting for the Lakers in the Finals.
I'd recommend hitting up a brunch buffet but honestly you're gonna wake up too late and be too hungover to take advantage of that....so try to hit up one of the midday pool parties if the weather permits. Your hotel runs a good one called Wet Republic so be sure to check it out.
Betting on sports is what I plan on doing the most. Do you know how it works. Lets say I wanted to put $200 on the Magic beating the HEAT in their home opener, how much would I win? Does it depend on the "opening line"? ex: Miami favored by 3? or does that not matter. I plan to do the same with the college games and the NFL games.

Re: OT: Going to Vegas
^ Just Google "how to bet sports." When you're in a casino's sportsbook, just walk up to one of the guys behind the counter and tell them what you want to do and they'll be more than happy to help you out.
But basically, if you just to be on the Magic winning the game, you're going to be taking the Magic moneyline bet. Otherwise you can bet the spread, which might look like Miami -5 (conversely, Magic +5), which means that the Heat are favored to win by 5 points. If you take the Magic +5, then you'll win even if the Magic lose by 4. If you were to bet $100 on this, you would stand to win around $90. The moneyline might show the Magic +250, which means that if you were to bet $100 and the Magic win the game, you would win $250.

Re: OT: Going to Vegas
Since you are staying at the MGM, make sure you don't let them talk you into letting them 'upgrade' you to a West Wing room. That is the oldest part of the hotel and looks a bit dated.
Also, the place is HUGE. Make sure you walk out the door closest to where you are headed and you will save yourself literally a half mile of hiking to walk around the side of the building.
As far as the strip clubs are concerned, only tip I have for you is that many if not all of them have some weird arrangement with cabs...like they have to pay a kickback to cabbies whenever they drop off a client. So, that cost gets passed to you in the form of a cover. If you use the club shuttle, no cover. Or if you have the cab drop you off nearby and walk up, no cover. But if cab drops you off, you pay a cover.

Re: OT: Going to Vegas
I don't like gambling and I'm not very fond of drinking, but I really liked Las Vegas when I went two years ago. The vibe is really nice.
I'd recommend to visit Old Vegas and at least go to a Cirque d' Soleil show, Ka' was really good, IMO, but I heard that O is even better.
Vegas has some ticket stands where you can buy the tickets a little bit cheaper at the same day. I've been to David Copperfield and Tournament of the Kings at Excalibur as well, both are good and at the Tournament you can eat like a true knight with your bare hands
