Washington Trades:
Nick Young/Al Thornton
Minnesota Trades:
Corey Brewer + 2nd Round Pick
Seems Brewer is odd man out in 'Sota with Johnson, Webster, and Ellington. This give them some value + players with QO options.
Washington gets a needed wing who plays good defense but does not offer much offensively. Short term starter at the SF and a backup SG/SF once Howard returns.
Not sure if 'Sota does this but I think it helps the 'Zards.

Sold.
Brewer is only a slightly worse 3-point shooter than Young, and he does everything else much better. It's a no-brainer for Washington. I don't see Minny including the pick. Indeed, I think we'd have to include a pick to make them consider it.

I would do it for the Wizards. I might even consider it with out the 2nd. I am a little leary of Brewer because he has reminds me a little of jeffries and stevenson(perimeter players that are an offensive liability). However he does bring some size to match-up with the bigger SGs.
I guess there is some statistical basis to my Jeffries/Stevenson similarities.

If Brewer is the odd man out in Mini Soda why would the Wolves want to trade him for a lesser swingman?

Understood and mostly agreed. My read on the Wolves is that most would are disappointed with Brewer's offensive development and that Nick and Thorton would bring more to the table. Seems the trade would provide each team specific skillsets they're looking for.
It's also essentially a 1 year tryout for each player in a new system/environment at minial cost to each team.

Re: Official Trade Thread XIV
I don't know about that trade. I think Young has a much higher celing, I mean the guy is a natrual scorer, instant offense. Him and Heinrich gives us a great punch off the bench and we already have Howard who is pretty much a best-case scenario for Brewer. A lot of people aren't giving Nick enough credit when it comes to his defense, there were times last year when he played some terrific on ball D. He's gotten better on the defensive end each of the past 3 years and with his long arms and great lateral quickness he could easily become an elite defender in this league. I'd have to pass on that offer.

Howard is also quite a few years older and known to be injury prone. I'm generally OK with replacing a damaged veteran on the way down with fresh legs on the way up.
I'd like to check Brewer's man and team defense against NBA players before pulling that trade though.

Brewer plus a second for Nick Young? Sold. Like now. I'll even throw in a few buckets of ice cream.

True, but I don't consider Brewer to be a potential replacement for Howard. The whole reason why Brewer would be on the market is bacause Minny doesn't see him as a SF. Maybe they are wrong, but for a team that has had so many holes of the past few seasons, the fact that he couldn't secure a spot for himself is pretty telling IMO.
Am I a big Nick Young fan? No, and I'm not sold on Al Thornton either. So Young+Thornton for Brewer would be fine with me since I'd consider it a lateral move. But I wouldn't view such a move as anything other than a roster shuffle, and certainly wouldn't look at this as the move that secured our SF of the future.

If Yi displays a reasonable approximation of what he has done in the pre-season, they might keep him on the tender offer. I think it is overpaying slightly, but it gives both sides some flexibility.hands11 wrote:But as long as Nick can only score and not rebound or assist, I don't want him here. Specially when he is as loopy as he is.
I think Nick Young could help some teams. However the issue with dealing him is there is no other player with SG size on the Wizard's roster. There will be some nights when the Wizards will need a big SG who can play defense.
What about Martin ? Plus, we wouldn't just cut Nick, we would get something. Maybe a player. Maybe a pick.
Anyway, I don't know the trade deal, I was just laying out there who I think they want to keep and who they would be willing to move.

I don't know Brewers game well enough to say yes but yeah, something like that.
Is he mature and smart, because that is of high value. That is what I want us to add.

But it could be addition by subtraction if Corey has a brain and it more reliable. Heck, I would be ok with giving Martin the slot. He seems to have a more rounded NBA game and more mature.
Nick has skills. Its his persona that I won't gone. We have had enough of the immature goofy kid thing here. We have Gil, Nick, Dray is a recovering kid/goof, McGee - but I have hope for him maturing, Armstrong - he is more shy then a goof but not a man like Wall, Yi - he also seems a little shy but I have hope for him also.
See what I'm saying. We need more Wall, Kirk types. I actually see Martin as that type. Singleton was also. This team just needs more maturity. That doesn't have to equal age. Wall may well be the most mature player on the team.
That would be a big reason for why I would want to move Nick. It may be lateral skills but is it later maturity also. I don't know because I don't know Brewer well enough.

At the end of the day - that's what I was thinking in proposing this trade. I'm not a fan of either NY1 or Thornton and this move is at minimum a lateral move but an opportunity to bring in new blood with a skillset I consider a little more desirable for this team.
Doubt Minny accepts anyway so carry on....

I'd rather keep Nick Young. I'm not a big fan of Corey Brewer. I know Nick is a goof ball and Brewer is a "intelligent" type of player you all are looking for. But, I just don't like his game for this team really.

Re: Official Trade Thread XIV
Looks like Melo to NY is still moving forward. The latest seems to be Melo for Randolph+Curry and a first from a third team. Any way we could get in? Our 2011 first for Gallo, or Gallo+Douglas?

Maybe, but it sounds like Denver wants out of tax land and we're not well positioned to do anything there.
Also, if we took on Gallo, I'm pretty sure we'd effectively be out of 2012 shopping (I think his cap hold would be over $12 million with McGee at $7 million). In truth, we well might not do better than him and I could really see him doing well next to Wall when we're in the halfcourt, but it's worth noting as a negative at least.

Re: Official Trade Thread XIV
^ Yeah, I've been trying to come up with Denver scenarios and it's tough because they are about $12M over the tax threshold. The only way they can save that much money under the 125% rule is if they have close to $47M in outgoing salary. Both they and the Knicks would essentially be swapping rosters. That's why they have to have a third team involved that can take back a lot of the salary.
Interestingly, both Cleveland and Toronto have extra picks and huge trade exceptions from the LeBron/Bosh deals. Would one of them give up a first to get Gallo and some expirings so that DEN/NY can get a deal done? CLE is probalby a little more likely than TOR.

CLE or TOR shouldn't give up picks and the TPE. One area the Wizards might be able to get in on would be to send Hinrich in for a more expensive expiring player.

Re: Official Trade Thread XIV
On the Melo to NY talks, I wouldn't be surprised if Denver puts some value on Toney Douglas. I know he's basically a backup 6'2 shooting guard, but I'm a fan. I think he has enough PG skills to play there - at least as a 3rd guard, and he is tough as hell at both ends of the court - with 3 point range. I think he could be a breakout player if given minutes in a good situation.
