Re: O.T. .::THE SCIENCE AND PHILOSOPHY THREAD::.
This thread is now getting close to becoming political. It made me tempted to post the trailer to "Fair Game" on the Plame leak. The Plame case is an excellent example of people being partisans. There are individuals all over Obama for supposedly making America less safe, and also doing nefarious plots, who defended what happened with the Plame leak and attempted to explain it away.
Anyhow, I will let you get back to science and philosophy.

Using data from NASA's Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope, scientists have recently discovered a gigantic, mysterious structure in our galaxy. This feature looks like a pair of bubbles extending above and below our galaxy's center. Each lobe is 25,000 light-years tall and the whole structure may be only a few million years old. Niiiiiiiiiiiiiice find.
Supposedly we have a Supermassive Black Hole at the center of our Galaxy and many think that most Galaxies have one as well. This could be a by-product of that.
Who knows what new things we'll find in the next 30-50 Years in the Universe that were always there with more powerful imaging and scanning tools.

MEDIA ADVISORY : M10-157
NASA Announces Televised Chandra News Conference
WASHINGTON -- NASA will hold a news conference at 12:30 p.m. EST on Monday, Nov. 15, to discuss the Chandra X-ray Observatory's discovery of an exceptional object in our cosmic neighborhood.
The news conference will originate from NASA Headquarters' television studio, 300 E St. SW in Washington and carried live on NASA TV.
Media representatives may attend the conference, join by phone or ask questions from participating NASA locations. To RSVP or obtain dial-in information, journalists must send their name, affiliation and telephone number to Trent Perrotto at: trent.j.perrotto@nasa.gov by 10 a.m. EST on Nov. 15. the first news was from the fermi telescope, the second was from Chandra X-ray Observatory, so since they didn't allude to the former news, i wouldn't think so.

What if we are Aliens?
Earth has been around millions of years. For all those years the planet had Dinosaurs and other Animals. (Lions, Pandas, Wolves, Birds etc) What if thats all the Earth consisted of at one point? And then humans came and took over.

View animation Astronomers using NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory have found evidence of the youngest black hole known to exist in our cosmic neighborhood. The 30-year-old black hole provides a unique opportunity to watch this type of object develop from infancy.
The black hole could help scientists better understand how massive stars explode, which ones leave behind black holes or neutron stars, and the number of black holes in our galaxy and others.
The object is a remnant of SN 1979C, a supernova in the galaxy M100 approximately 50 million light years from Earth. Even though the light from the supernova took this long to reach Chandra, researchers see the object as it appeared when it was just 30-years-old. A helpful analogy is to imagine taking a picture of a baby and mailing across oceans. No matter how long it took to receive the picture, you would still see the image of a baby.

that would be billions of years btw, not just millions. This thread, above all, demands accuracy

Technically, humans from Earth were from Earth, the ones on the other planets were kidnapped from Earth and taken elsewhere. However, I suppose you could say the humans on earth, weren't there to begin with and were seeded and cultivated as life by the Ancients. I think that's what they said happened. I saw all of Stargate at one time so it's kind of a blur as to what was what. -Jitpal

Well according to that Annaki stuff that I started the thread with, supposedly they came to earth and genetically engineered human beings using their DNA along with the Neanderthal/Cro-Magnon/pre-human beings that were already inhabiting the planet.

The humans on Earth within the Stargate Franchise are the second evolutionary descendants of the Ancients (Alterrans) who arrived from Atlantis (which was their 2nd time on Earth, since in the 1st they had departed for the Pegasus Galaxy to get away from the Plague).

Yeah, in the series, but not in the original movie.
The '94 Movie didn't advance that far in terms of plot. In fact, it wasn't until later in SG1 itself that they explored the Ancients further, and not until SGA that they discovered the truth about their return to Earth ("Before I Sleep"), and during that Series learned the Ancients' names were Alterran.

How can one detect if human life was engineered. If Intelligent Design is said not to be science, and its main claim is you can detect design/engineering, then how is one going to go about detecting whether human life was engineered? You can't suddenly flip-flop and go, "Well, since we are talking aliens it is different. So long as the engineer was a god, we can't take it seriously". Well, we have no evidence intelligent life exists anywhere else in this universe, let alone they would come all this way just to plant life here. If you can't project human behavior as a cover all for all possibilities of intelligence, you can project what humans are on other possible alien species.
I am leaning towards the belief that the belief in extraterrestrials is a religious belief system that gained grown in the 20th century.
