My reason is that the Cavs are at .500 and I want us to tank to get into the Harrison Barnes sweepstakes.

While cock-blocking the Heat from winning a championship by making the Lakers even stronger.

Would you guys do Walton, Sasha, and two lotto protected 1st's?

Hell yeah I'd do that. Our 1st round picks are going to be rather low for the next few years anyway, and the chances of us getting someone as good as Varejao are pretty damn slim. He's an excellent defender, hustle player, and flopper (perfect fit on the biggest verbal flopping team in the league).

He's also a guy that understands his role perfectly. Something like this would be a steal for us.

could happen 3-4yrs down the line but not this soon, we just have to give a team a good player now and hope they suck like how Det got #2 even though they were #1 seed in the East but to bad for them they drafted Darko

Troy Murphy

Post#1163 » by supaflash » Fri Nov 19, 2010 10:07 pm

What do you guys think about him? Nets are likely to trade him. Not that it's likely at all or needed, he has a fairly hefty salary but if we could unload Sasha and Luke (lol) for him would you do it?

He's a really good rebounder and spreads the floor really well all the way out to the 3, but he is somewhat suspect on defense. Personally I wouldn't mind him salary and trade restrictions aside, he's a good player that could fill in nicely for Odom/Pau when needed.

I like the idea, but there is no feasible way to trade for him outside of sasha+luke and that sure aint gonna happen.

He's really terrible, but he's better than Sasha/Luke

Ah typical Bynum hater. Its funny how before Bynum got hurt he was averaging a double double. At the start of last season when Gasol was out Bynum was averaging 20.3 PPG 11.7 RPG. Only when he is playing alongside Pau Gasol has he not averaged a double double.

Stick Troy Murphy next to Pau Gasol for his entire career and he wouldn't be averaging a double double.

Speaking in hypotheticals? Bynum averaging a double double without Pau Gasol actually did happen. Troy Murphy never had to play alongside a player that rebounds at the rate Lamar Odom or Pau Gasol do.

Double-double? Bynum averaged 14 and 8 in two seasons playing next to Pau. Let me repeat, 14 and 8. Im sorry but those are not the godly numbers you make them out to be. I think they are achievable for just about any average starting center or pf in the league. If anything they should be higher with all the doubles that kobe and pau bring.

The hypothetical I was referring to was:
Stick Troy Murphy next to Pau Gasol for his entire career and he wouldn't be averaging a double double.

No one is saying Murph is better than Bynum. My point was just that Murphy was actually able to produce above average in the NBA for FIVE years. Bynum has yet to be healthy for a single year.

A freak accident happens once...in VERY extreme cases, twice. But once you get to three straight years in a row it becomes a pattern. I hope bynum never goes down again, but I also hope I win the lottery, neither are very likely. That is the "reality" I was referring to.

I like to remember Bynum's glory days (maybe 7 or 8 GREAT games per year) as much as the next guy. But what the lakers need at this point is someone they can count on to produce consistently. Please try to convince me that that guy is Bynum.

3rd options in this league are not going to average some crazy types of numbers especially if they are playing alongside Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol. Kobe and Pau at times limit the amount of touches Drew gets. Even in Chris Bosh's instance it is much different because Bosh is the number 1 post guy meanwhile Drew is the number 2 post guy. Even when you look beyond Kobe and Pau we have other guys. Lamar Odom is a capable starting power forward and he limits how much time Drew is out on the court.

If you expect Bynum to average 20 points and 10 rebounds on this it isn't going to happen Before this season not even Pau Gasol was averaging 20 points per game. Sure Bynum could be averaging more rebounds but he actually boxes guys out frequently and allows Pau to grabs boards. At times he doesn't go after rebounds and just allows them to go to Pau.

You put Bynum as the #1 option and he'll get you 20pts and 10rebs a game... easily. As a 3rd/4th option, his stats aren't too bad.

would chris anderson be a valuable player with the lakers? I mean well only need him for his blocking and rebounding pretty much like we needed ratliff but hes younger...trade vujacic and his expiring contract plus a 2-3rd round pick...
