thats like saying we shouldve kept lee and harrington over amare since combined they averaged more ppg than amare does

what it doesnt take into account is the defensive impact it will have on other teams: focusing on melo and amare is alot harder and will free up chances for the others

Melo would help this team a lot. However, Gallo needs to stay. He literally took over the game in the first half and single handedly kept the Knicks in it. He would have had a huge 2nd half too, if he got a single call. He got hit on the perimeter and whenever he drove. Gallo is a big time player and you combine that with Felton, Melo and Amar'e to get something special. -Jitpal

I really want to keep Gallo on this Team, I don't want to sound like a homer but he's got "it"

Against the better Teams Fields is going to be Marginalized might as well bite the bullet

I really can't believe some of you still don't want Carmelo on this team. If you're not gonna play any defense then you better score especially when Amar'e is getting triple teamed and guess what Carmelo is good at?

This forum changes its mind on who they want to trade based on every game. I bet if Chandler had a beast game tonight and Gallo was off you'd want to ship him out.

Do you think MIA would've triple teamed Amare with Melo on the floor?.....Chandler and Gallo can space the floor for Amare against mediocre defensive teams. Melo will keep the floor spaced for Amare against anyone.

What a reality check regarding the new big three....

Regardless of all the other components of building a championship contending team. It starts (in 2010) with more than just ONE superstar.

Bring on Melo!

Not to mention Orlando may be adding Arenas. Just watch a new trend beginning... And just to think this all started with the forming of the big three in Boston...

Although I'm fairly positive Melo WANTS to be here...I'd still rather them make a trade for him...once FA hits anything can happen. I hope they dont get greedy and insist we wait til FA. People will want to be here once Melo and Amare are paired up, so I'm sure we can replace whoever we may lose in a trade.

Melo has a miserable long-range game. Both Chandler and Gallo are currently better at than Melo. Melo is a career 30.7% three point shooter. He shot 31.6% from three last season and is shooting 28.9 this season.

So much for the spacing the floor argument.

if the p and r is shut down, id much rather take melo than any other option we currently have on this team

plus i dont think amare would be seeing a triple team with melo on the floor

The thing that gets me is everyone want to talk about how our shooters space the floor for Amare, yet he's still seeing multiple defenders. So how much spacing are they doing? If Carmelo's on the floor their would be legit spacing.

It doesn't matter if Carmelo is a 30.7% shooter because the defense still doesn't give him the shot. They still cover him from the 3 point line all the way to the post because he can score from anywhere. The deep ball is his least efficient way of scoring, but its not a place where he can't score from. That's what you're not understanding. He's a streaky deep threat. In November he shot 35% from deep, this month he's shooting 16%. Last season he shot 38% from 3 before the A.S. break. After he shot 23%. He's still capable of hitting it, he just isn't consistent from deep. It still isn't a shot that the defense will just give him, which means more spacing.

What I'm not is a Melo groupie. I see him for what he is. I could care less than he's from Brooklyn or that he's married to some hot babe. I just don't see him as the answer to the Knicks problems, especially if it involves giving up a lot of talent to get him. He's not a Lebron or Dwight Howard.

If he wants to man-up like CC Sabbathia or Lebron did, I'll be happy to execute a sign trade next summer - and figure out a way to fit him in. But I've had it with players who just want to get paid - and that's exactly what he looks like to me right now.

What does that have to do with anything I said? I talked about spacing and you're talking about where he's from and him getting paid. Why? Haha.

Amar'e is here because he wanted to get paid, that's irrelevant, we all want to get paid.

The fact is we need a second superstar type guy that is respected by all teams. Melo does that for us just like those 3 buffoons do it for each other in Miami. Unless we think Gallo or Chandler can be that second superstar type, I am all for getting Melo this season at some point.

yeah to the people saying SIGN HIM IN THE SUMMER FOR NOTHING you risk:

A) him taking an extension from another team
B) him taking the extension with denver
C) mystery contender swooping in

not to mention you lose Chandler & the MLE

so there will be losses either way...

wondering the same myself, his value is at an all time high now. I think the elite teams with high BBIQs put a body on Fields, limiting his effectiveness. great glue guy but not some untouchable as people make him out to be
