This was nothing more than Denver attempting to create leverage to use against the Knicks. "Look at what New Jersey is willing to give us for Melo, now you do the same". This is exactly what they did with the DEN-NJN-UTA-CHA trade. Once things are supposedly close to being a done deal, they change the terms and continually stall because there is no actual deal to be made since Anthony still refuses to sign an extension with New Jersey. Denver is attempting to get New York to outbid the Nets.
So he should have reported an opinion, basically thats what you're saying.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that any potential trade involving Anthony still hinges on him being willing to sign an extension. Anyone with a brain would at least make it a point to highlight that fact considering that it's well-known Melo wants New York and only New York at this point. All of these "sources" were claiming "it's happening, it's close, almost there etc..." without even touching on the subject of an extension which is just plain choosing to ignore the obvious if you ask me. It's just that a headline which reads "Melo Headed To The Nets?" is a bigger attention getter than "Melo To New Jersey Still Hinges On Extension".
How is it well known Carmelo wants New York only? That was created and speculated by the media. Has Carmelo ever said he doesn't want to be a Net? Can you show me a source of evidence? Per Woj, he has told two individual teammates that he would sign an extension with the Nets. And evidently he has also pushed his reps to construct a deal that would bring with him decent players to NJ as well. Broussard's article contradict Wojs when it comes down to this. Chris believes that Melo wouldn't sign an extension, but Woj has sources claiming otherwise and Carmelo has, in fact, never stated he wouldn't sign with NJ (unlike several other teams, including Charlotte, Sixers, etc).
The problem I believe is two-fold:
1) Carmelo is ultimately undecided on where he would want to go, and keeps swaying back and forth on a daily basis.
2) Denver management is asking for more in a trade that would have already been the biggest in NBA history. The longer Denver holds out, the less they're going to get. It's game of chicken with the Knicks being the failsafe option.
And to be quite honest with all of you, I'd be glad if this trade does fall through. I'd rather the Nets keep losing this year and hopefully this time they get their #1 overall pick, as they justly deserved last year.
