he can work in the paint with davis. and shoot the 3 if we need it. that would give our starting lineup 2 guys who work the paint , and 2 guys + future pg who can shoot the 3 (bargs/williams).

But you're not going to draft him in the top 5

Enes is a skilled low-post scorer and excellent rebounder who is very big and strong (although not very tall--he measured out at 6-10, 260lbs, with a 7-1 wingspan in April). Jonas is a very long, lanky player who is very active on the glass and can block shots. From what little I've seen of him, he looked like a C-version of Amir. At just 18 years old, he's got the 12th-best PER in the Euroleague right now (although I don't know if that holds a lot of weight with two former Raps being higher on that list )

If we're not in a position to draft Kyrie or the two Joneses, perhaps drafting one of these two could pay dividends down the line (unless we're targeting Gasol/DeAndre in free agency this summer).

The Euroleague round of 16 began today. Valanciunus' team got its ass kicked by Panathanaikos which isn't surprising. Jonas played 10 minutes off the bench, got six point and seven boards. I didn't see the game, so I cant attest to the quality of those minutes, but as others have said, this is high level comp for an 18 year old who may be still growing and is certainly seven feet in shoes already. As the rebound numbers suggest and from the fact he was 4-4 from the stripe in those 10 minutes, he attacks the rim with tremendous energy.

I've seen him called a taller, beefier, more skilled version of Andris Biedrins. Although Biedrins can't hit a free throw if his life depended on it, and Jonas is an 86% free throw shooter.

I'm a fan of the explosive type this guy falls under that category.

He's another 5 year project but this guy seems to have the right type of goods when it comes to being a big man.

He and Kanter are very intriguing if some of the perimeter guys are off the board.

I haven't even reached the stage where I know who's going to be on the board. I don't think we're going to have clarity until early May, much later than I would normally expect. One thing about the Euros in this draft, they won't be deterred by the lockout because they can stay in Europe with their draft position pre-determined, and avoid a deep 2012 draft where they might get sideswiped by a number of players who skipped the 2011 draft because of the lockout threat.

Irving is still my preference, maybe Perry, but after that, I'd almost prefer a player who can remain active through a lockout rather than a prospect NCAA player who will be working out - without coaching or summer league - for nine months.

The thing I noticed over the last few years with European players is the guys near the top of the draft don't fluctuate all that much. Guys like Kanter and Jonas are going to stay in the top 10. I guess it's because the NCAA kids are under the microscope game in / game out.

Anyway, I'm with you on Irving and Perry but I'll add one more, Terrence Jones. I think all 3 of those guys would be my top picks. I haven't even written off Barnes yet and think his stock could still rise although things haven't looked good at all for him in college.

That's hardly a valid reason to pass on the BPA should that be a NCAA player. There are a million and one trainers out there and zillions of NBA players to workout with over that time. Maybe they utilize there time off to actually hit the gym and get bigger and stronger?

I for one don't think the talent pool in this draft is deep enough to go Euro just because they can stay in Europe and play through a lockout season, there is probably only a small handful of legit prospects to begin with.

no way we pick and store a Euro overseas, just for the possibility that there might be a lockout.

Its not like a lockout will alter the growth of our pick over the 9 month period, if anything he would go to a summer league and still get some burn, not necessarily the NBA summer league.

Extremely premature but right now I have

Kyrie Irving
Terrence Jones
Jared Sullinger
Kemba Walker
Enes Kanter
Perry Jones
Derrick Williams

There is still lots to be decided but from what I've been able to see these are the guys I would want in that order.

I'm still hoping that a combination of the Miami big 3 will get injured, and the team finishes with a mediocre record. We could could possible have 2 picks in the top 20....

It won't be a dream it can happen in reality on this saturday vs. heat, have Ju Wright bust lebron's kneecap, Andrea poking hard at DWade's eyeballs and Reggie coming off the bench to bite bosh's nuts off...or just start a violent brawl...

I just have a feeling that our miami pick will be a very valuable one somehow, it's my six sense...believe it.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...taking him over PJ or TJ or even over the "star or busting" Barnes? Quite risky though.

I presume the opportunity for young NBA players to play in the NBDL will not exist like it did during the NHL lockout where many players were able to play in the AHL.

New NBALaff.net mock is up...

http://www.nbadraft.net/nba_mock_drafts/consensus

1. Perry Jones
2. Jared Sullinger
3. Enes Kanter
4. Terrence Jones
5. Kyrie Irving

This does not bode well for us, if Kyrie continues to slip it could given him more incentive to stay in school... :nonono:

Not anymore risky than Perry or Barnes in my estimation.

:o Pretty impressive

Workouts and the Combine are gonna be crucial this year with all the parity...

If D-Will shows he can play the 3 and beasts during the workouts I can see him being a top 5
pick.

Seems right now his stock is rising the most

I've been saying as much. The workouts are sooooooo important this year seeing as the talent is so uncertain.

I think it serves the scouting websites interests to have Kyrie Irving fall. He's not going to play the rest of the year so they'll get more clicks juggling the numbers and promoting other active players until workouts start at which point they can safely elevate Irving back.
