Nah, I predict a trade going down within 2 weeks now that NJ is out of the picture. I've always maintained that NJ is our only roadblock to a Melo trade, and now that they're out of the way, Denver will soon realize that NY is really the only team available they can trade Melo to. They're not going to send him to Houston or Dallas as a rental package. What they'll do is take that rental offer and bring it to Donnie to get him to ante up...

Even in that respect, I think Donnie's standing offer is already better than any rental offers.

What a lot of people don't realize is that the closer this approaches the deadline now, the more leverage WE have, not Denver. We're not the ones desperate to make a trade by the deadline. Denver is, or they risk losing Melo for nothing but some late picks.

Now that the Nets appear to be out of it, and Denver hopefully will have to deal with us, it seems like one thing is for sure: theyre in no rush.... especially if what we're offering isn't up to their 'standards'... and even if it was, you'd think now they'd be a lot more inclined to hold onto him and win as many games as they can with him before sending him off to where he wants to go

Getting Melo 3 weeks from now is better than knowing we won't get him tomorrow, but hopefully things move along with some sort of speed.... I don't think Donnie would ever let talks between us and the Nuggets get the publicity that the Nets deal had and therefore affect the team... now that the nets have come to peace with it, it really is only the nuggets that are hurting themselves in the locker room and on the court...but if they keep winning, that hurt is pretty bearable

I don't think it makes any difference. The picks will be high anyway if they even get them. It's about getting a good deal for them, even if it's 50/50. If they can't do that, then wow. They can be in trouble.

FYI, Denver's schedule is pretty soft up to the 23rd of Feb. They only face 3 very good to elite teams up until that date. Mark that off as another reason they will officially trade him to us on the 23rd...

If they were playing terribly and getting blown out it would certainly make it a lot harder.... but passed all the media circus surrounding them they are still winning games and will not be making any quick moves anytime soon imo...they have 3 weeks and i think they'll use a lot of it...

Prok seemed serious about being done with the nuggets, but something tells me if they go crawling back to him in two weeks saying they'll accept a weaker deal NJ would be all ears.... though that would be pretty two faced of him...

It doesn't make sense for the Nuggets to move quickly now, 3 weeks is a long time....relatively speaking...

Boy would it be nice if we are there only option and we hold their only chance of making a deal happen before the deadline... take our offer or lose him in FO...that'd truly have to be the best result any Knick fan could have asked for at the beginning of all this

I'm curious to if Donnie will stick to his guns on "I'm not discussing 'Melo any more" cause with this news, I'm sure media has shifted ALL its weight to the Knicks. I think it's about 55/45 on getting him mid season. With Denver's soft schedule they could just let it ride out until the last minutes of the deadline. Wouldn't blame them. IMO the only way we get Melo is if he goes knockin' on Denvers FO door and says send me to NY now. He's trying to keep things under wraps and kinda be humble about everything but it's actually just hurting the bigger picture.

Who are the teams that have extra pieces to ship for a Melo rental?

If one of the goals is to save $, then by having Melo for one more playoff run (and hopefully they are realistic in the sense that they won't be able to beat Lakers, and then the Heat or Celtics or Magic) then you lose the opportunity for expiring contracts in 2010-11. They could still get expirings, but they won't expire for about a full year.

So everything points to they have to trade him.

I just saw the carmelo interview after the game.. lmao, that man looked happy as hell when they asked him about the nets pulling out.. that sh*t was funny.. he couldn't hide it one bit
