Honestly... if you can get a 2nd and a 5th round pick for Hal Gill... how do you only get a 2nd round pick (The Ducks pick no less, so it will be a crappy pick) for a proven number 1 goalie in Huet.
Man am I ever pissed off right now... This bites.

I'm really confused about this trade.
Hossa is a great goal scorer and he should be good with Crosby. But he is known to be a puck hogger which is not good at all for Crosby. Crosby likes to carry the puck into the zone as does Hossa. Hossa is going to have to take a back seat to Crosby. I just hope he does it.
Then there's him being a UFA come the offseason. Can the Pens afford to re-sign him? They have a lot of upcoming free agents in the offseason aside from Hossa.
Malkin and Staal need to be re-signed next offseason. Fleury this year. They will have money freed from Sydor, Gill, Gonchar and Roberts in the next few years.
Now to the outgoing players. I'm glad to see Christensen gone. He is a natural center and wasn't playing well on the wing. On Atlanta, he will go back to center and should be on the 2nd line with better players then being a 3rd or 4th line center on the Pens.
Colby Armstrong, I will certainly miss him. Great locker room presence, and could spark the Pens on the ice with big hits. He is a UFA after the season. Could possible re-sign with the Pens. I hope he does. And I hope he doesn't take this personal cause I would love to have him back on the team.
Esposito was a prospect and many times, they don't turn out to be what they were expected to be so I'm ok with this.
Right now, I'm happy this happened. I think Hossa and Sid will click when Sid gets back. I think Shero knows what he is doing and will re-sign Hossa.

I know what you're thinking. We're in the middle of a city, what's a hawk doing there?

The Pens were somwhat desperate for a defenseman who could clear the crease and be a presense on the PK. That's why Toronto got that much for Hall Gill.

Every team in the playoff hunt has a starting goalie. Ottawa could have used him and probably would have given a better deal but does Montreal want to trade him to Ottawa. Highly unlikely. Washington needs a goalie.

If they needed one that badly, you don't think we could have gotten more for him? I think Gainey just wanted to get a deal done...
Great now we hear the Habs are done... this was a horrible day for the Habs.

It's hard to believe Gainey would just give away Huet for a 2nd round pick. He probably let all GMs know he was available. He wasn't going to trade him to Ottawa because they are fighting Ottawa for the division and that would be dumb.
All the other teams currently in the playoff race have a starting goalie so he was unable to drive up the price because no one else wanted him. He may have also done it early because he was going to package this draft pick to Atlanta for Hossa.
Maybe he pulled the gun too early on this trade.

That is what my assumption of it was, but I mean unless you're completely certain the deal is going to go through... you don't do something like that. He's going to be crucified by everyone in Montreal now.

Maybe Waddell told him the deal would go through but then Pittsburgh came in with this deal at the last minute and Waddell took it since it was close to 3.

all season the talk has been about how theres no market for goalies, how the sens have tried to trade emery but couldn't find a taker, how the oilers can't unload roloson, how the ducks couldn't get anything for brysgalof and ended up waiving him.
I'm really not sure the habs could get something better for huet, and they really wanted to get rid of him so there was no controversy surrounding price
man the thrashers got hosed though

Yeah but you have to be 110% certain it will go through before you do it... or else don't do it, period.
