1. The first concession the players' union will likely make is to get rid of the MLE.
2. Even if we have an MLE, Denver would have the right to match.

Why would the player's union get rid of it? It would be the owners wanting to get rid of it to force players to sign for the minimum.

Anyone actually listen to the Broussard clip on ESPN.. talking about how Dolan is pushing to get Melo here now and as soon as possible rather than waiting / risking... The way Broussard was talking sounded like he was completely speculating and talking for the sake of talking, but interesting nonetheless.

Well, lets hope this deal, if true, gets done fast.

Chandler will def. be affected a lot by the new reports.

I'd agree, but that ship looks like it's already sailed.

Thats why it makes sense to make the deal now while holding on to gallo and fields

My point has been from the beginning that it is imperative to avoid Melo's extension price. That 22 mil per, is crippling it will limit our options drastically, and certainly not worth a player hardly in the top 10 if that. The reg season is already 60% over. All we have to do is wait past the trade deadline and we can get him via FA for a lot cheaper, even still with the new CBA. While holding on to Gallo and Fields and draft picks. Letting Chandler and Curry walk off to hell. Bottum line, we can accomplish all of our objectives just the same by waiting it out. Denver is the one in must-act now mode. Its a much simpler and more efficient route.

But you are not taking into consideration 2 things. Melo is a top player in the NBA and wants to be paid like one. You can't get everything you want. Sure that is an ideal situation to pay him less leaving us more flexibility.

Of course he wants more than the MAX any team would rightly offer. Im sure he'd like a billion too.
Does that mean the knicks should be irresponsible with their spending? It is you who is not considering things like salary cap implications.

second thing is the knicks with the current construction are a 6 seed at best with a 1st round knockout. With Melo we are a playoff team that could easily win 1 round and maybe even get into the eastern conference finals.

1. Even with the addition of Melo we are still not a championship team.
2. Ball dominant superstars need time to gel. With more than half the season over. it is uncertain if Melo would even fit the system given the time.
3. Patience is virtue.

Also you dont consider Melo a top 10 player in the NBA????? name me 10 players better (Melo is a winner he has been in the playoffs every yr in a tough western conference)

hardly top 10

Kobe
Lebron
Wade
Durant
Howard
Dirk
Paul
Deron Williams

are all debatably better
and is he clearly better than either Derrick Rose, Gasol, Amare, or Blake Griffin? Its debatable dont you think. Yet all of those guys would be paid less than Melo with the exception of Kobe. How can any sane and responsible person even consider giving that kind of $$ to melo?

You're assuming there's actually a story to be leaked. Odds are this is complete fabrication.

Come on bro, let's be serious here. Someone legitimately had to come up to Broussard and give him word. Look at it as Broussard being used as a mouthpiece, or a puppet. I mean, as much as we hate the guy, do we really want to assume that he flat out makes this stuff up? Even if Broussard gets taken advantage of by his so-called sources, he is still getting his info from another person's mouth rather than it being his own concoction.

Oh, I don't doubt that somebody told Broussard something. But the chain of evidence is extraordinarily weak and could have been corrupted by any number of people with an agenda, including the so-called "leak" or even Broussard himself.

Of the four parties involved (Denver, NY, MN, and Broussard), only one has any motive to bring this story to light. And that's very clearly Chris Broussard and ESPN. I'm not saying he's making it up. I'm just saying it wouldn't take much "hard evidence" for him to run with a story like this because it's sensational, gets his name a lot of publicity, drives clicks to ESPN.com, and pumps up ratings for ESPN Radio and TV.

If any of the teams had any motive to leak this, it's gotta be Denver. Far fetched theory, but by setting a low floor for the public's expectations, they can set themselves up for saving face by later accepting a better deal.

Edit:
I should have said 6 parties with vested interest to leak false info:

1. Denver
2. NY
3. MN
4. Broussard
5. Carmelo's agents
6. Other c-blocking teams like Dallas

Still, not sure who gains from this leak other than ESPN.

Oh wow.

So Broussard was actually confirming/corroborating the CBS story, while adding the detail about Brewer. Interesting.

I listened to it. I respectfully disagree with you. Didn't sound like speculting at all to me Broussard didn't change his tone or way of talking about it .... I do wonder tho, how would Broussard or anyone else know what Dolan is saying to DW? Logic says this is speculation. OK, maybe we are saying the same thing here... but I'm making an analysis of the the logic not the sound of Broussard's voice or his tone.

I also wonder who leaked this. I do believe it has some legs... and to be fair, I posted a few weeks back SPECULATING along the lines of making a deal to save old man Kroenke money would be the best way to go. Analysis... deductive thinking, no source telling me. It just makes sense.

But my gut tells me DW has been playing this the right way for a long time. Remember reports months ago saying the Knicks believe the longer this plays and closer to the deadline the better for us?

Also, DW repeatedly saying he is not going to break up the team to get one player.... consistent message througout.

Denver really has no other good options. Saving all that money and getting 3 or 4 small pieces is as good as they can hope for.....

DW has (IMO) dictated the terms here, Chandler is the piece we can best afford to give up. AR is a pawn that means very little to our team. Fat Eddie has been eating his way to this his moment of glory in Knicks history for 2 years or more now.

The stars are lining up and Ujiri has his back against a wall with a loaded canon on the other side of the wall. Unless a miracle happens and Melo suddenly changes his mind....

A deal like this is going to be made. Not speculation, analysis and deduction!

X1.... He's better than Dirk. He's better down low, Melo is a better rebounder (and he's a SF) and Melo is a better finisher.

He's more proven than Deron. He's top 10 for sure when you take everything into account.

Melo gives us two top ten players. Get him and deal with the rest. Who cares about 12 fa class that might never happen.

So one down year by Melo and we all know its basically because of the trade rumors and him not playing 100% means he's not a top 10 player? Haha. I'm going to assume we're listing Love and Aldridge as better players than Melo as well.
