To do list before the season ends:

Fly to Portland and start a "Roy's Our Boy" chant during a Blazers game.

O/T: Insanity

Post#824 » by delvec19 » Tue Feb 8, 2011 8:01 pm

There seems to be a p90x (which I'm a graduate of) thread here almost every week, but has anyone tried Insanity? Just finished my 3rd day and this thing really lives up to its name. It seriously makes plyometrics from p90x look easy as hell.

Truth. I haven't done Insanity the "proper" way (did it for 3 weeks then decided I needed to do more lifting), but I do mix it in every once in a while. It's disgusting.

Went back and did a plyometrics workout a week later, it really was a walk in the park.

I don't understand why people need these "names" to their workouts. Is it really that hard to go around the gym, hit every muscle with machines/weights, do 5-10 variations of ab exercises and run a mile or two 3-4 times a week while eating just sensibly? Avoid the midtown 1 dollar burgers, pizza, and excessive chinese food and carbs.....it's really age and logic.

I'm near my mid 30s now, and just by wisening up and looking at calories and keeping up my exercise routine I'm in amazing shape. A lot of these exercise routines, while obviously effective are really quick/painful fixes. Just being logical keeps you in great shape for your entire life. You'll burn out on this stuff in 3 weeks-2 months and be right back throwing down **** street food.

It truly is insane. Its more cardio than strength training, and you have to be seriously motivated.

The eating part is easy, for me at least. I know what's healthy and what isn't by now. I lost around 40 lbs through the 3 months of p90x and then another 30 lbs after it was over and doing my own thing...I started out at like 270ish. I'm at around 200 lbs now at 5'11" but my mid section is still kinda flabby. But seriously, these videos get me more motivated and makes me work harder knowing that I HAVE to complete them. Sometimes I get lazy going to the gym and don't do as much as I should and I also hate having to remember what I need to do and whatnot. The vids just make it more organized for me and that's what I like about it. I also feel that listening to people that are as ripped as Tony Horton and Shaun T. is the right thing to do haha.

Honestly, you don't need a ton of stuff and programs you need to pay for to get in shape. I have a barbell, and one those cheap pull up bars you draft into your wall, and I'm in great shape. Arms one day, shoulders another, legs on another, pull ups/push ups on another, cardio and abs every other day. And the biggest thing is just watching what you eat, that does wonders.

well I can speak for myself. I have been through p90x 3 times and now I have adjusted and shortened the workouts to fit my needs and schedule. Some of us have busy schedules.. for me, getting to a gym right now after i have a 50 minute commute each way is not feasable.. So I get up early in the morn and do my workout at home. I have my bands, weights and pull up bar right here with me and I don't have to leave home to drive to a gym. I like it because p90x gives you a good balanced workout and watching them really helps you keep your form and technique in the exercise, especially when you get tired and your form starts to fail..

Also it encourages you to eat the right way, so yea, in a nutshell, people should be able to work out on their own, go to the gyn and eat right.. but for those who like that little push at home, those who like a nice workout regiment that fits their schedule, programs like p90x are perfect..

I've been doing a P90X/P90Xplus/Insanity hybrid. Insanity is the perfect name for it. The most intense cardio you will ever do. It's based on a lot of track, basketball, boxing, and football drills. Great core work. There's also a great upper body workout too. I love it. I've never sweat so much in my life.
And a great diet is not just watching what you eat. It's also important when you eat. Having 5 smaller meals is much better than two or three big meals.

i agree with you on this wholeheartedly.

i do it because it's regimented more easily. i had no idea how to lift weights til i went to college, so this helps out.

now insanity, i've had it for a while, but does it actually help you besides just sweating a lot?

the p90x plyometrics helped me jump better. does insanity help you in that area, or does it just help you lose weight and sweat.

this is pretty much why i did it. i travel an hour each day for the school i teach at.

also, p90x has another type of workout system if nobody has seen it yet. i forget the name, but i have it. although it's geared more towards women, it's pretty clever in the way it's set up.

P90x, as you know TFK, is about an hour for each workout. with this new program, each workout (arms, cardio, legs, core, abs, etc) is a little more than 10 minutes long. the way they set it up though, however, you can do up to 3 programs in one workout, equaling about 30+ minutes of working out, and still getting quite a sweat in it. again, i forget the name, but it was on a commercial at like 4 a.m.

also, for those that are very self-conscious and worried about what people think of them at the gym, it allows them the privacy to workout. plus, like i stated before, i had no idea what to do or how to lift the proper way. this provides those that don't know which exercises to do, or how often, a guideline for fitness
