Felton, Billups Could Be Added To Carmelo Deal

Recent rumors indicate that the Nuggets would like the Knicks to include Raymond Felton in a package for Carmelo Anthony, with Chauncey Billups ending up in New York as part of the deal as well.

The New York Post reports that Donnie Walsh and the Knicks are not currently considering the suggestion.

Billups doesn't have a guaranteed contract for next season, meaning New York would be able to waive him and acquire additional cap space.

pretty sure it's partially guaranteed

I just looked it up. $3.7 million is guaranteed with all of it being guaranteed 5 days after this season ends. -Jitpal

I'll repeat:
If Billups comes back with Felton going out, and it saves you Gallo AND Fields, how do you NOT do it?

Now if you can get MIN to cough up Flynn, even better. But in that case we might as well hand over TD.

Ur talking about our backup PG of course over the long haul of the season he wouldn't put up those numbers because he is not a true PG. But if I remember correctly at the end of the season for a large sample of game Tony Douglass was putting up 20-8 games for the knicks. My personal belief if you throw in any pretty decent PG....perfect example (ridnour, andre miller, jameer nelson, johnny flynn, stephen curry, deven harris (not even a pg) and the list could go on and on would avg close to 17-9 for a season. I am pretty confident they would come close to those numbers. Thats my point!

So if I look at a list of unavailable PG's, except Flynn who isn't good, they could potentially put up what Ray is putting now?

I'm saying we got a little to giddy over felton quick start because we have had absolutely the worst PG's ever with Duhon, who actually put up decent stats with the knicks...because of the system. Go through any starting PG in the nba and I would say over 2/3 of them could put up similar numbers in MIke D's system. Not saying its the best system or the system I think can win championships...but for a PG it is easy to put up good numbers, and u can't deny that statement because I have facts to back it up.

If we can get Ridnour along with Billups that'd be great.

It depends who you ask but if you can hold on to Gallo, Fields and Mozgov in exchange for taking BIllups in a swap for Felton you do it. Thing is, that's it. I wouldn't do a Billups for Felton swap AND take on Al Harrington or give up one of those 3. This is what they want, this is what they get, no more. -Jitpal

You have to do it if your Walsh and I think Dolan would force him to anyways if it came down to that.

Outgoing: Curry, Felton, Gallo, Chandler Randolph

Incoming: Melo, Billups, Flynn/Rubio

Then we opt out of Billups' contract and sign Gasol in the summer

PG: Rubio/Flynn
SG: Fields
SF: Melo
PF: Amare
C: Gasol

Would we be under the cap though? Melo and Amare alone would make nearly $40M. Plus, who knows about the CBA.

Just sayin'...I like Gasol, but I don't think a FA is coming in addition to Melo, unless there is still a CBA. I could be wrong though, no time to do the math.

this would be ideal. one can dream

Then you factor in Carmelos salary and that gives us no PG and what, 4 million in cap space?

cut the garbage

LAL is not in the mix.

If you watched the telecast last night marv said he asked phil jackson himself and his lakers contacts and they said they were not involved and are 100% committed to Bynum.

combine that with the LAL report and Hahn's report...
they are NOT in the sweepstakes.

just stop it. why do you keep pulling this stuff? it's unreal.

and i heard 100 reasons why lebron wouldnt go to mia

wades shadow, marketability, etc

how that turn out?

Thats the exact point i am trying to make. We would be keeping our two young wing players also how do people not see that???

For sure, no Harrington and no Gallo and no Fields and no Mozgov.

I don't see how it makes the deal better, but if they are down so am I.

Agreed. This is why people jumping on each rumor and thinking this could have been done weeks ago don't make sense. There are so many permutation that have to be figured out. We will come out of this deal winners as long as Walsh is allowed his operating space.

^Why does this blow hard act like he's sitting in these meetings with Walsh?
The guy talks as if he's some sports insider or something..
It's ridiculous having to skim through posts to find real news...instead what I get is insight from people that are only good for talking out of their fanny's

how is any1 here opinion different than any of the "analysts" at espn?

its all the same, we just share our opinion

rich 'kobe has played his last game in LAL" bucher
Chris "lebrons going to CHI/NJN" broussard
etc.

its all the same, we all discuss our opinion

couldn't agree anymore. On top of it they get Chandler, another young wing maybe brewer, a 1st round pick, and a decent young pg that is tradeable in the offseason for another piece if they want to start ty lawson next season. Plus oh wait they still get 20 million dollars in savings!

It's obviously completely dependent on the new CBA. Not to mention with Billups not getting any younger the Knicks need a backup PG even more than they do now. Telfair doesn't cut it. You have to absolutely bring back Ridnour in the deal. That kills whatever capspace you think you would have and it might cost more from Minny. Billups isn't ideal but if the question was Billups, Melo, Gallo/Fields or Felton, Melo, Al Harrington. I think I'll take my chances with Billups. -Jitpal

well you hope hed want to stay, but he was seeking an immediate buy out if he was traded back to Det in that RIP deal. that worry's me a little, but not really.

Well he would instantly be put on a contending team. Melo + Amare + Billups is a pretty good squad, especially in the east. D'Antoni's system tends to make PGs look good and if he plans on getting a new contract it's a good place for him. I think he would want to stay.

Regardless, I think the big push for Billups isn't from Denver, it's from CAA. Leon Rose represents Ty Lawson so if Billups gets moved in this deal, Lawson is the starter. Starter means more minutes and probably a larger contract when it's time. -Jitpal
