Anthony also would have to know that coming to New Jersey probably would end his playoff hopes. The Nets have a 17-40 mark entering the break and are 8½ games out of a playoff berth with 25 left.

Money is one thing. Watching 3 months worth of playoffs also has to be factored into where Carmelo Anthony will play after the 24th. And unless the Nuggets have told him straight away that they are NOT dealing him to the Knicks, there is no way Melo would nix the Knicks before they have a chance to complete a deal by the deadline in my opinion.

Melo really has no excuse to even entertain a talk with NJ - none... He's seen that the Knicks and Nuggets have been engaged, and that Denver's offers have been a joke. Now that they're willing to actually talk with us, and that we're a few days away, Melo should be telling them "i'm going to the Knicks now or in FA" and force them to come to terms with us. Not much more to it.

frank isola is trying to create a story from the owners and players being in the same room to discuss the new CBA. Dolan goes to these owner meetings every all-star weekend.

Problem is, like guys like GONYK and KG have been saying, he seems shook about possibly losing out on the money. That's the only logical explanation, because it would be idiotic to let the them bring the Nets back into it, and try to force the Knicks to give up more than they have to. Who knows if Denver would be spiteful enough to tell him "Fine, then we're pulling the extension." He could easily put the kibosh on this but the fact that this circus is going on pretty much confirms that he hasn't. I personally don't think he's going to NJ for every reason already posted (gutted team, play in Newark, capped out, no playoffs) so I think we get a deal done, but like GONYK said, we probably give up more than want to (or should have to for that matter).
