Detroit Red Wings Are Stanley Cup Champions

Great series, man one thing I realized is that the nhl has to capitalize on this. I've lost interest in hockey over the years, but for some reason I started watching again this season. Even most of my co-workers, who don't even have a clue about hockey couldn't stop talking about game 5.

There's a ton of great young talent, Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin etc. hopefully the league starts marketing the **** out of these guys and bring hockey back to relevance.

Feels amazing. The best team all year won, I couldn't be happier.

Props to the Pens they put up a great fight despite being overmatched. Great sign going forward.

I disagree that Hank was a suprise. He had a great series offensively and played IMO the best defensive series I have ever seen from a top forward. Osgood was my second choice, but Hank just dominated the last few games on both ends.

Kris Draper slamming Gonchar's head into the boards was dirty. I used to feel sorry for him because of what Lemieux did to his face, but now I feel anger.

Sadly the NHL gives the Smythe to the leading scorer. In Zetterberg's defense he did have a Stanley Cup winning goal.

Congrats boys this is one for the ages, The Wings proved that we are a powerhouse. It's also very nice to see the Wings thanking the Illich's for their work and for keeping them. It put a huge smile on my face to see McCarty thank them for bring him back. I am surprised how well spoke some of the Wings really are.

Thanks to all the fans who posted here and thanks goes to ajaX82 for his work this season with all things Wings related. Couldn't have done it without you.

Back at ya. I loved seeing my favorites like Maltby, Draper, Lidstrom and McCarty carrying the cup again. Ive been watchin these guys for 10 years, and god im excited we could get them another cup

Just got back from the game.

Even though the Pens lost, amazing game.

Congrats to the Red Wings. They were the better team. If you can't score on a 5 on 3, you just won't win. That was a killer. It was nice to see Geno finally show up. I wish Malone would have done the same.

Some may say I am crazy to say this, but a disappointing season for the Pens. Yes, they made it to the cup finals, but they lost. 2 wins short.

I really feel bad for the Pens players. Malone, Crosby, Talbot were all crying after the game. So close.

The reason Geno and Sid aren't on the same line all year is because they are both natural centers. It's too hard for a natural center to convert to wing. They only play together 5 on 5 when the team needs a spark. Gotta have 2 top 2 lines.

For the Wings fans, I have some pictures of some players hoisting the cup. I will post them when I get the chance.

I have a feeling Hossa will be wearing a Pens sweater next year. This team will win the cup next year, remember I said it.

I did stay. It wasn't fun seeing Detroit hoist the cup on home ice, but it is a once in a lifetime moment.

That's the 2nd time I've seen the cup. When the Pens won their first cup, I got to hold it and take a picture with it. Good thing I dont play in the NHL, I'd just jinx my team.

Your team had a great year though and was really tough. I fully expect the Pens to compete next year for the cup, especially with Crosby/Malkin/Stall/Fleury all getting older and better. Thats a scary freakin core

It was really cool. It would have been better to see Crosby lift it, instead of Lidstrom. I'll just have to wait till next season to see that. Zetterberg went a little extreme with the Conn Smythe Trophy.

I think Hossa will be part of the core for the next few years. He knows this team will be his best chance to win the cup. Of the teams that could afford him.

I concur with xbl_sucks about this forum. Only good things can follow after this season. We've got Wings fans, Pens fans, Blackhawks fans, Leafs fans, Sharks fans, Flames fans, Canadiens fans, Bruins fans, and Capitals fans.

If I'm missing your team, I'm sorry. But with hockey growing and the fanbase returning, let's hope next season this forum is busy. And don't forget, folks, the NHL might have the busiest offseason of any league, so stick around.

It was unneccesary but it wasn't half as dirty as Roberts punching Franzen in the face the day he gets back from his concusission... Detroit players have been taking crap all playoffs without retaliating much because they were so focused on the game so I can't feel too bad when they dish a little of it back

What a game, what a series, and what a party...... Pittsburgh didn't give up but the better team clearly won this series.... They'll be back for years to come... Hopefully Hossa stays with them...

BTW, Zetterburg was clearly the Conn Smythe for the person who said it was a surprise that he won.... He was unbelieveable all playoffs long... Ozzie had a shot if they would have won game 5 but that pretty much sealed the deal that he wouldn't...

I feel so good for Chris Osgood right now..... Sent out of town in favor of Hasek in 02 and than this happens... Wow

This series was great. All of the games got really intense, and new fans got to see two great hockey teams. The only problem for me was as a Blackhawks fan it was tough to watch the Red Wings hoist the Stanley Cup.

Not gonna lie, I would have rathered that the Pens won the cup but... Detroit is a heck of a team and deserved it. Grats to the Wings, and a round of applause to the Pens for battling til the end. Can't wait for the start of next season!!
