Well Demar was a great pick for #9. Getting a Demar level prospect from #2 or #3 is just OK. I like Derozan a lot, but he's no franchise changer.

The problem with Barnes is he's not as athletic as people thought. Demar measured up to the billing his college year for athleticism. HB is going to have decent NBA athleticism, but good size and 3pt shooting ability. He's not going to be a star, more of a 3rd option who plays defense

Barnes could be a good prospect for us. But so could Kanter, Valanciunas, Perry Jones III, Derrick Williams, Terrence Jones (though I'm less of a fan than him than most). If we're picking top 6 we should get a pretty good prospect.

Assuming we take Irving if we have #1 - even if I prefer Jones III it's obvious BC would take Irving - I'd rank the rest like this

2. Perry Jones III
3. Jared Sullinger
4. Enes Kanter
5. Derrick Williams
6. Harrison Barnes
7. Jonas Valanciunas
8. Terrence Jones

We won't be picking below 8

My personal prediction is we draft Barnes at #6, and he ends up a pretty good starting SF for us who helps us with 3s and d - and he maybe drops 15/8 as early as his 2nd year on a bad team. But like Demar it'll be apparant rather early that he's not going to be a Vince or Bosh centerpiece

Which honestly might be the best thing for us. When we do draft a star, we may have better supporting players in place than we did with Bosh. Barnes could be the Lu Deng to a Rose. Demar, Barnes, Davis/Amir is potentially awesome defensively too, talk about length and athleticism rotating

Barnes starts off the FSU game strong with a trey. This isn't an easy matchup for him so let's see how he responds.

edit: looked like a 3 but I guess his toe was on the line

HB looking good early on getting into the paint for his last two buckets. He's 3-4 with 6 pts including a three that rattled in n' out.

9 now for Barnes on the 3 after the nice pump fake. Any scouts watching are thoroughly impressed so far.

Well, DraftExpress dropped Barnes to 13th today. He's going to have to make more than a few jump shots to show he has a pulse.

Three Euros in the top 10 - that ought to freak out most of this board.

Utah, by the way, worked out Kanter today. I presume his agent will have him here before long. Remember, no need for him to obey and NCAA rules. He can give workouts to his heart's content. At least he's now seemingly committed to this draft.

Here's another mock draft that has Barnes at 13.

Lol calm down bro I'd bring it up if he wasn't playing well. I'm just letting those who can't watch know how he looks tonight. It's a nationally televised game so there are a lot of important people watching. We are still trying to figure him out so a good game could do a lot for his value. Good thing I don't have to go to DX for my info.

Barnes with the game winner with 3 secs left - a pull-up 3 from the top of the arc.

Anyone just see that? What a shot!!

Great overall game for Barnes. He got it going early getting in the paint, finishing with ease. People have criticized that aspect of his game so it was good to see. He would have started 4-4 but a nice looking three just missed. UNC has some explosive players on offense so some nights they're forced to feed the hot hand. He played his usual great D, spaced the floor well and didn't force any bad shots. FSU leads the nation in defensive FG% so I wasn't expecting great numbers. They are holding teams to 36% on the year.

He was forced into a couple turnovers but that'll happen when you have the ball at the end of the shot clock getting double teamed. When his team needed him the most, down by one with 10 seconds left they called an iso for the freshman. He calmly buried the three with a few seconds left to win by 2. He finished 6-10 with 18 points, 4 boards and added a key steal & block. Dicky V summed it up well when he said "He just looks like a player". That's exactly what Barnes needed with the game on ESPN. HUGE onions that he's shown all year.

Anybody think that Barnes might be best utilized like a Ray Allen, coming off of screens, squaring up, & firing? He's great when he doesn't have to take more than a couple of dribbles - it's when you ask him to beat his man off of the dribble, and create, that's when he's struggled, even in this game.

But, with the help of a screen, he can come off of it, with a direct lane to the rim, or just rise up and fire. The difference is, he could come off of screens that stretch all the way out to the 3pt line. Anybody think that this would be a good way to use Barnes?

He's got a nice shooting form, just needs to hone it a bit, which will come with repetition.

barnes and derozan seem to be kind of similar in attitude, but completely opposite in skillset. and again i reiterate if we drop out of the top 5 in the draft, i'd be totally happy taking barnes. i highly doubt anybody will pick him up right now in the top 5.. guess we'll see how he fares in the tourney

If we don't win the lottery, and he's still on the board when we pick, then I'm officially on the Barnes bandwagon. Not that I'm so myopic that I wouldn't consider other players, but I think he's ideal for what we want at the 3. I think Barnes and DeRozan compliment each other really well, and would be hell to deal with offensively.

The best part with Barnes, I think, is that he'll probably need a bit of time to adjust to the NBA game (like DeRozan did) which will put us in a good position for a high draft pick in a stacked 2012 lottery. Then we make our move for one of the top rated point guards.

i don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but barnes moves his feet really well on defence which is a good thing to see. again though, it may be completely different in the big leagues. irving, t jones, and barnes are 3 guys i would like to see in a raptors jersey next season

I see what you're saying but it's still possible that he could develop a better slashing game. He'll have more room to work with in the NBA and defenders have to up play up on him or he'll stick you with the jumper. The athleticism and agility are there, he just needs to figure out how to use it. In Iowa he could take anyone to the hole with ease but he's had to adjust his game to play against players of similar size & athletic ability. He'll work on his handles to speed up his first step and stop hesitating.

He finally looks comfortable but Roy Williams doesn't ask him to take players one-on-one very often. They've only lost once with Kendall Marshall as the PG so the offense is run almost exclusively through him. For good reason because the kid has looked like Jason Kidd or Steve Nash with his playmaking lately. The lack of the defensive 3 seconds rule makes driving to the paint a less appealing option so he's used to spread the floor for the big men and keep the defense honest by knocking down the long jumpers and short treys. If he did end up like a Ray Allen type who played great D and rebounded the ball that's still a pretty good player . If he keeps improving then who knows how good he could be.

Yeah I've said the same thing couple pages ago saying he's the SF version of Ray. It'd be nice if he can practice his range more and knock down shots at a more consistent level...if his poor handles are going to be a forever thing then I say he should remodel his game to someone like Ray Allen, or Reggie Miller. But so far I only see Luol Deng potential (good but not good enough for Raptors fan standard)

........It's definitely not a good thing to use him like that every time... maybe that's why he doesn't get to the basket much. Doing a shotfake from a 3 point line and decides to drive or pull up just within the 3 point line...it gives weakside defenders more time to cover the lane and more time to react to him...the one guy he should really learn from is Paul Pierce, jabstep, shotfake, when to stepback, when to drive etc...I hate Pierce as a person but I love his game.

I don't think there's any way that he would slip to 13, but stranger things have happened. Sometimes these sites like to move guys around their draft board to generate hits and discussion.

That was nice. What I'd to see more of from him though is taking guys off the dribble. To me the ability to do this is what makes potentially great players, especially in today's NBA where you can't breathe on someone without getting a foul.
