Re: 2011 Free Agent Targets
The only FA's i want, as of now, are NY1 re-upped, and i wouldnt mind if we used a bit of cash to get a veteran C who wouldnt mind coming here and coming off the bench behind McGee. Someone like Pryz who might be looking to up his value. The only pitfall in such a scenario is Flip playing the vet over McGee...

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

That sums up my opinion as well. Young plus a vet center on a 1-year deal. I haven't decided if we should go for a goon like Pryz, or more of an over-the-hill skill player like Kurt Thomas.

^^^ With such a young, impressionable team, I want the grizzled vet with a great work ethic. Kurt Thomas would seem to fit the bill.
Plus, signing Old-man River also takes away the temptation of benching McGee and playing the backup 30 minutes....because the backup couldn't actually play that long without breaking a hip.

Trading for 2013 picks might not be a bad idea then. It's a safe bet that the Wolves, Raptors, and Cavs will still be bad then. I'd love to get picks from any of those teams. ^_^

I hope they go for a young veteran from the Euroleague. Richard Hendrix is decent. On DX he's describe as a guy who will fill the role of Kurt Thomas or Reggie Evans as they're being phased out of the league.

I don't think the Wizards need a C. Seraphin can back McGee. I hope they get a young, veteran, FA PF who can play significant minutes like Singleton did. If the Wizards are fortunate to draft Derrick Williams, Blatche will need to go. The veteran FA big can be a stop gap player who can fill in when the rookie gets up to speed. It really doesn't need to be the grizzled vet who would want an expanded role, miller. My problem with bringing Thomas is he'd be coming from the penthouse to the outhouse going from the Bulls to the Wizards.
Perhaps if the Spurs go out early in the playoffs, and if Flip stays, the Wizards can offer McDyess a deal. He came off the bench for Saunders in Detroit years back.

I'm sure some contender will want Kurt. The only vets that come here are ones who garner no interest from contenders. Meaning, they suck.

I'd prefer a backup center with a little more height. Hendrix isn't even 6-8.

Anthony Carter is a vet whom I could see us bringing in for the "mentorship" role. Carter's 35, he's done, and he would probably be redundant with Cassell as a coach, but he'd probably provide a nice defensive contrast to Sam. He's never been more than a role player, but his time with Riley and the (tolerable) Heat would give him some cred.

I believe Randolph, M. Gasol and Kevin Love are the only bigs of talent that aren't locked up for the forseeable future.
I don't know that any of them are worth overpaying for. Gasol just isn't that good, Randolph is the last person this franchise needs to invest in, and Kevin...he is going to be too expensive.
All we can do is hope we have a good draft and see if we can get something useful for Dray.

Brian Skinner? I dont know how long his contract in Italy is for. I liked him on the Suns a few years ago...

Skinner is truly awful. No thanks.

A couple guys that come to my mind are Ben Wallace and Marcus Camby, both have 1 yr expiring contracts.

Agree 100%. I don't see any FAs of interest. Possibly Gasol, but he'll be way overvalued this offseason because the FA selection is so poor. We need a good draft, and anything we can get for Blatche.

You do realize if the Cavs are lucky they could end up with two top lotto picks this year. I ran the mock machine and once it came up Williams and Barnes. Add that to what they have and they could rebuild quickly.
Sign Nick. Get what you need in the draft which is likely a SF in Williams or Perry plus another first and a second.
Let Howard walk. Dude should give the some money back. Two year = 22 games for how much ? 3M plus what he made last year.
I would rather bring back Mo and Jeffers. Between Booker and our first and what we already have, there is no real reason for Howard here. To many injuries with him anyway. I would actually consider bringing back Yi cheap as bench depth. He does at least have a decent mid range shot and he can back up three positions if you use him as a spot up 3 if you are short handed. Not sure if he would want to be here or not.
Lewis and Mo are enough maturity vet types to anchor the younger players. I know Jeffers is not a vet but he is old school, tough, level headed and mature. Plus he is hungry, healthy and cheap. He fits well with this team and he is a great teaching tool.
This team seems to already be coming together under Flip and Sam. Keep them young for now. They seem to get gelling like a veteran college team. That is their vib. Actually, I think that vib is good for Dray and McGee. Its a vib of hustle, be a team player and listen to your coach. Lewis and Mo seem to be the cool elder statesman that fit with the kids.

If they're lucky, and then if they draft well. That latter part hinges on organizational competence - I don't think I need to list out reasons why the teams I mentioned may have trouble with that particular aspect of rebuilding. =p
I like your points about the Wiz' vibe. I agree, we need to keep the hustle, the energy, the young-guns-on-the-rise mentality. That's an identity you can build on.

Any interest in Dexter Pittman if he is waived by Miami? I'm sure there will be a few teams interested in taking him on as a project - he has kept the wait off during his injury rehab.

Re: 2011 Free Agent Targets
I'd take Evans over Jeffers. Our team needs maturity and a few more outside shooters. If we still have a roster spot available after drafting all the guys we want to draft and signing all the guys we want to sign, I wouldn't mind adding Jeffers to the mix. But I don't think he's as valuable as people make him out to be. He's still a shooting guard who can't shoot.
