Wow, doc. Spot on in so many ways ....

--Having come to the Wizards I'm sure Flip the realist realized he's screwed some time back.

--Having lost 14 in a row, and counting, dude's probably not easy going in the locker room. His media comments are certainly borne of being depressed. He's routinely hypercritical in the media. I haven't heard Flip say he didn't know something or recall him deferring. His riding the players in the NBA is certainly self-destructive.

--Helping players at a dead end? James Singleton--check. Earl Boykins--check. Merely trading for Mike Miller--check. Fabricio Oberto coming off crap stats, no game, and heart surgery--check. 7-day Dray before Flip got here and before the current beef--oh yeah, he had hit a dead end. I'll give Flip credit just for communicating early on with Blatche. Forget the negative stuff of late.

--Convincing? He's got a lot of folks so convinced he's a good coach they don't even question the man!

That is Flip Saunders all the way. I just think he's got too overwhelming a task and too many young, sensitive players for him to succeed here.

But you know what, doc? Flip's meta paints a picture of such a tortured soul that even a bipolar guy has to feel for the man. Wow. Flip's a high-strung genius. Really wants to help. Really knows what needs to be done. Really does NOT HAVE the patience or people skills....

Damn. That's all very compelling! I don't despise the man now. He's just jacked up. :)
Bye bye Beal.

Following meta-compatibility stuff is offered for entertainment purposes only. Amateur analysis by CCJ .....

Just going by what I think I see in terms of compatible metas with Flips, I'd say all the Pisces guys look favorable: Pondexter, Patterson, Henry. These guys will work on this team.

The pragmatists would seem to work. Turner, Aldrich, and probably Aminu and Sanders.

Iffy personality picks that MIGHT work: Geminis Davis, Monroe, Whitesides, Williams. Geminis have two sides to them. Nice by nature but two-faced when things go bad. I think Flip rules these guys.

The guys I really see clashing with Saunders are Cousins, Wall, probably Johnson, and also probably Favors. The last two, if typical Cancers are friendly folks but they tend to brood. They can also have prima donna sides and can be non-team players when they get down. Great when they're up but they'll want to jump ship, especially under a dude like Flip.

Wall and Cousins ... hmmmm. Wall's a better fit. Pisces/Virgo strongly attract but strongly bring out the worst in each other. John Wall and Flip are destined to feud publicly. Wall is going to be Virgo-like honest with Flip. Ouch. That won't fly because Flip thinks Flip is never wrong. Cousins is going to have it his way and is one player like Blatche, who won't back down to Flip. But I think he wins out.

I'd hope the Wizards draft Cousins, Turner, or Henry with the first first rounder.

Second pick, I'd hope for Fredette or Faried, who I know will be good. If they go Turner early, Sanders late would be excellent. I think the Wizards should package McGee. Flip will never like Javale.
Bye bye Beal.

DeMarcus Cousins, Leo III. (Day of Long Odds).
Face seemingly insurmountable odds in their fight to come out on top and stay there. Highly unique personality and outlook. One might think they'd be beaten down by all the challenges and difficulties they face, but though occasionally (understandably) suffering from depression, feeling beaten down by life, they are generally cheerful, bouyant. Highly sensitive to criticism, prone to thinking the worst of themselves, they generally remain friendly open and most of all: active.
Being unique, even strange individuals, they are attracted to people with unusual nature as well. Have little in common with straightlaced or conventional people. While rising towards the highest levels of idealism in their projects, they're still often suspicious of people who are overly optimistic.
A powerful resistance to fascism or oppression, urge to rebel. Yet they themselves have strong leadership potential.
Great attraction to danger, not so much risking death or injury, but in triumphing over great odds. Achieving the impossible is their aim, embracing the challenge, not seeking safety. 'The strength of the long breath' able to bide their time, and know the right moment to strike. Though achievement may bring ironic misfortunes, just enough good fortune seems to give them help at unexpected moments.

For CCJ:

Cedric Jackson, March 5, Pisc II, Day of Heaven and Hell

Expressive, Polished, Incisive; Difficult, Temperamental, Suffering. Seem to live life more inteensely than others, piercing insight can expose the weaknesses, deficiencies, insecurities of others, . It is their own passionate nature that is the source of their dissatisfaction, but internal struggle is the fire that powers their creative engine. Fear that becoming normal may dull their edge.

Trevor Booker: 11/25 Sagi I -- Day of Sustained Effort.
Know how to save their energy for the long haul. Don't wait for things to happen, make them happen. Dynamic and productive, with a reserved side that lends them dignity. Nothing chaotic about their energy, flows evenly and smoothly. Prefer working alone, admire capable and talented individuals, achievement is a god to them. Place excellence first, power second, money third. Driven to realize success in their field, and if they fail can suffer breakdowns and depression. Highly moral sense. Usually display a constant and positive attitude.
(Anthony Peeler, Jared Jeffries; Joe Dimaggio, Joe Gibbs).

Kevin Seraphin -- 12/7/89, Sagi II.
Same as:
Al Thornton -- 12/7/83, Sagi II -- Day of Idiosyncrasy.
One of a kind. Have respect for people who have the courage to go their own way. Secretly might like to be accepted on conventional terms, they may work hard to conform and admire conformity but it doesn't come easily to them. What comes naturally to them is not always what they can make the most money doing. Uniqueness can become a great asset, don't have to make great effort in order to stand out or be recognized.
(Same as Larry Bird, Louis Amundson, Noam Chomsky, Johnny Bench).

Yi Jianlian -- 10/27/8? Scorpio I -- Day of Impulse
Alive, energetic, powerful; depressive, jealous, self-destructive. Forceful, fiery, dynamic; if introverted then prone to escapism, self-destructive. Great creative energy, though sporadic, enlivens their work. Wish to give the impression of rock-solid dependability, tend to ignore their own sensitivity. Danger is they will push beyond their own limits and suffer breakdown. Great need for approval, especially from friends and family. Great impulsive energy can leave them exhausted, need long periods of downtime to recover.

Hilton Armstrong -- 11/11/84, Scorp II -- Day of the Underground.
Energetic; troubled. Bright cheerful appearance masks depth and turbulent nature. Powerful in controlling their environment. Protectors of the roost. Talent for organization that lends structure to a professional or social group. Physically magnetic, know how to make use of this aspect, but can fall under another's sway as well. Know how to get their way, alternating between aggressive and passive tactics. Able to rein in energies, sit and wait. Waiting may mean procrastination. War between inner and outer selves: talents, ambition and career may fade into misuse and neglect, seem destined for great accomplishments, but instead sink into obscurity, primarily due to fears and intense need for security. Directionlessness and frustration can erupt in volcanic temper, but when they feel a sense of overall purpose they can handle temporary setbacks.

John Wall-- 9/6 Virgo-- Unpredictable Fate.
Lives seem guided by the hand of fate, vulnerable to the hidden workings of chance. Can make highly detailed plans, preparing for every contingency, then find out things do not unfold as expected, becoming frustrated. They may seem so involved in the moment that others feel they do not put enough emphasis on the future. An unfair impression, they have simply learned from experience to focus on the moment, take things as they come and go with life's rhythms. Though their lives may seem uneven, they are constant and faithful. Friends and family are extremely important to them and serve as a buffer to protect them from the harsher side of life. Concerned with appearing attractive to the world, value beauty highly. Prone to self-fulfilling prophesies, for better or for worse, must be careful about the power of their words over their own lives and those of others as well. Shouldn't take health for granted or become overconfident about physical strength; vigorous exercise and a healthy appetite for food and life in general should be developed when they are young and continued in life if they are to remain vital.
(Kevin Willis, Sean Singletary)

Hmmn. Maybe. Though he sounds more like the 9/7 folks:

Day of the Success Seekers.
Never ending pursuit of personal success: "will never give up until they achieve what they have set out to do, even if it requires their dying breath to accomplish it." One track mind when it comes to follwoign their plans, if necessary battering their opponents into submission. Sheer force of willpower and creative-imaginative thrust of their ideas helps win people over to them. Will not rest until they have gained complete mastery over the technical skills of their highly specialized fields. Those who are involved in leading or ruling will fuse their subjects into a cohesive smooth-running unit, wiht no doubt whatsoever about who the boss is or what is the goal. Generally provide direction and inspiration but will tolerate no insubordination. Will be even more successful if they calm down a little bit and learn to share responsibility with others and fit in with the team. Sometimes mellow with age, but rarely lose their competitive edge. Diligent, goal-oriented, determined; overcompetitive, insensitive, unforgiving.
(McDyess. Kevin Love. Pops Mensah Bonsu).

Often someone born late (or early) in the day more closely resembles the next (or previous) day, or even a blend of both. Hospital records may be spotty and poorly kept as well. Staff working 24 hour shifts can be forgiven for approximating time of birth etc.

COACH:
Flip Saunders (2/23) --Pisces 1
Day of the Viable Candidate
"[Feb 23ers] specialize in offering not only ideas but also themselves as viable alternatives to less than ideal circumstances. They are often problem solvers engaged in moving things forward in a positive direction..."

Realists, down to earth individualists, skilled at sizing up a situation and putting their finger on exactly what can be improved. The thrill of dealing with everyday practicalities: build on yesterday, plan for tomorrow. 'Kairotic sense' knowing when to act, when to stand pat. Usually have a plan B. Excel at helping those who have reached a dead end. Pragmatic, analytic, convincing.
At worst: beware that realism doesn't become pessimism, then depression or self-destructive patterns. Occasionally hyper-critical, all-knowing, or negative. Have to keep balance in their lives.
(WEB DuBois for instance).

Playing the metaphysical algebra game.

STARTERS
John Wall (9/6) Virgo 2. The Day of Unpredictable Fate or (9/7) Virgo 2. Day of the Success Seekers.
Gilbert Arenas. (1/6) Capricorn 2. The Day of Substantiation.
Andray Blatche. (8/22) Leo/Virgo cusp. The Day of Seasoned Experience.
Al Thornton(12/7) Sagittarius 2. Day of Idiosyncrasy.
JaVale McGee (1/19) Capricorn/Aquarius cusp. The Day of Dreams and Visions.

BENCH:
Kirk Hinrich. (Jan 2.) Capricorn I. Day of Self-requirement.
Josh Howard (4/28) Taurus I. Day of Steadfastness.
Yi Jianlian (10/27) Scorpio I. Day of Impulse
Nick Young (6/1) Gemini I. Day of the Popular Eye
Kevin Seraphin (12/7) Sagittarius II. Day of Idiosyncrasy.
Trevor Booker: (11/25) Sagittarius I. Day of Sustained Effort.
Hilton Armstrong -- (11/11) Scorpio II. Day of the Underground.

COACH:
Flip Saunders (2/23) --Pisces 1. Day of the Viable Candidate.
===================================================================

Okay so a starting five of:

1G-- Unpredictable Fate
2G-- Substantiation
SF-- Idiosyncrasy
PF-- Seasoned Experience
C-- Dreams and Visions

Feels like a restless night, tossing and turning, with dreams full of omens and portent, awakening with a prophetic certitude of foreknowledge. They may not believe you, but so it shall be, in time. Plan accordingly.

Whereas:
1G-- Success Seekers [if this is more correct]
2G-- Substantiation
SF-- Idiosyncrasy
PF-- Seasoned Experience
C -- Dreams and Visions

Takes an odd path to get there, unpredictable, but ultimately the desired goal, success, is surely made manifest.

Measure all the physicals you want. Talk all you like about upside. Players who succeed are those who not only possess great physical ability but who possess great mental aptitude as well. The question is always how likely will a player live up to their full potential? We have little measure of this beyond their production in college, so instead we must turn to the heavens and wonder... Hence the loopy wingnut thread and the astrological breakdown of our potential roster picks.

So far while looking at lotto picks, here are some metaphysical notables:

Derrick Williams: born 5/25 1st day of Gemini: Day of the Bold One
Tough, adaptable, idealistic; intolerant, judgmental, unrealistic
Fighters, devoted to protecting a cause or family. Aware of and attuned to the rhythms of the world, able to go with the flow, but they will never compromise their own opinions even if it makes them unpopular. They hold themselves to a code and expect others to have the same standard. Honor and personal responsibility are immensely important to them. Markedly physical people, yet whatever they do is beautifully executed. They constantly fight their fear of rejection. (Kendall Gill, KC Jones)

Terrence Jones: 1/9 Capricorn: Day of Ambition
Resilient, purposeful, resourceful; controlling, inflexible, repressed
These are tough, hard-driving, highly ambitious people with a desire to reach the top of their chosen profession. They want to be the best, devoting all their energy year after year to that end. Their willpower in this regard is not to be underestimated. Capable of applying great pressure to bend others to their will, they may fail to understand how a group thinks. They have a knack for recognizing opportunities. Losses and defeats tend to dot their background, but it is extremely difficult to defeat them or force them to surrender. Oriented towards struggle they rarely rest on their achievements, but remain workaholics. Battlers, they use whatever weapons are at their disposal to overcome adversaries. (Muggsy Bogues, and um, Mike Beasley? Also Richard Nixon...)

AS usual I often like the metas of a few late-round players better than some of the top choices (like Russell Westbrook some few years ago, who was projected way lower).

Morris Bros 9/2 Virgos: The Day of the Businesslike Attitude
Fair, honest, unpretentious; unyielding, explosive, moody.
No frills, hate phoniness, won't make excuses for themselves nor even spend many words in self-analysis. They prefer to let their actions speak for themselves, more than anything they just want to get on with the job. They may have poor resources for dealing with breakdown or failure. They keep to a strict code of honor. Physical, strenuous exercise is recommended. [Coach Big John Thompson, Tiny Archibald, Sam Mitchell]

Justin Harper 8/30 Virgo: Day of The Rock
Organized, reliable; authoritarian, inflexible.
Rock solid where their strengths are concerned, they seek tangible results in all things. Confident in their ability to handle any situation, though occasionally over confident. They are able to shoulder great responsibilities though they are not without limit. [The Chief Robert Parish]

Kenneth Faried 11/19 Scorpio: The Day of the Reformer
Convincing, constructive; overconfident, resistant.
Pugnacious crusaders, champions of causes. Extremely physical. Concerned with both tearing down oppressive regimes and constructing new and better ones. A blend of radical and conservative, seeking control while leading revolution. Often concerned with consolidating or administrating power. Come into conflict with those who disagree with their methods. For them there is no higher value than the truth. [Vlad Rad; Indira Ghandi]

Enes Kanter, 5/20 Gemini/Taurus cusp: Day of Prolific Expression
Exciting, Innovative, Expressive; Overtalkative, undisciplined, unfulfilled.
Whatever they like to to, they do it a lot. Not content to go alone, must bring their prodigious energies to bear on those around them. Strong physical side that cries out for expression. Outwardly directed, may not take time for self examination. Addicted to motion, travel, but when pace gets too frenetic they're destined for breakdown. Enthusiastic yet highly critical, thus quick thinking manifests as nervous energy or worry. Mind like a motor that will not turn off. Jump from one project to another, learning quickly but after plateau switching to something else, new challenge. The most successful of these people have learned to stick to one discipline in which to exercise a variety of talents, Having set something up it's necessary to learn to maintain it. Regular physical exercise serves to ground them.

My 2nd round prospect 6'11" Keith Benson, 8/13 Leo, same as Big Cuzzo:

(Same day as Fidel Castro and Alfred Hitchcock).
