By the way Derrick Williams is soft as powerforward. He gets routinely manhandled by college powerforwards the way mcgee normally did until teh last quarter off the season. Derrick Williams is what he is. He isn't getting any better than what we see right now. A stretch 4 always has to play defense on the block where he becomes attacking point during clutch moments of the game. Just think a worse defensively on the block than jamison.
Derrick Williams idolized Michael Jordan--Not Tim Duncan or Shaq and his play oh the blocks shows it. He wants nothing to do with banging on the low blocks defensively.

I watched a TON of Arizona games this year, specifically to watch Williams. Yes, Williams struggles against some longer/bigger guys, notably Tristan Thompson. But, to say that Williams was routinely manhandled by collegiate PF's is total crap. Williams klled teams in the paint, not with a refined post game, but with strength, and length. How do you think he managed to get to the foul line so frequently?

And, how can you say Williams, "isn't going to get any better than what we see right now"? That is a ridiculous assertion. There is a lot that Williams can do to refine his game, and his body. What evidence you you have to present that suggests that Derrick Williams has peaked?

You have some good thoughts WizarDynasty, but other times, I am just left scratching my head.

offensvely, D.williams will be fine taking a anypowerforward off the dribble.
Derrick Williams wants nothing to do with battling in the paint defensively. In this light, he is worse than Jamison defensively. He is a better perimeter defender than Jamison but even worse post defender and that really really bad from a starting powerforward. To e that drops his value significantly for the wizards. If he was playing next to powerful shotblocking defensive rebounding steroid muscle like D.Howard or Mutombo, or even Shaq or Bynum..Kendrick Perkins. But nobody on the wizards roster allows D.Williams to get away with playing softer post defense than Jamison.
Build your team w/5 shooters using P. Pierce Form deeply bent hips and lower back arch at same time b4 rising into shot. Elbow never pointing to the ground! Good teams have an engine player that shoot volume (2000 full season) at 50 percent.Large Hands

Saying Veselý would be out of the league in 3 years is just unbelievable (barring injuries).

It might be a good thing to spell the team's name correctly when you call their fans ignorant - much less have your facts straight. Explain how there's a Euro bias when most of the same people panning Vesely are very high on Kanter and Jonas.

And yes, if you have actual reasons for your opinion, state them. Otherwise, you're wasting everyone's time.

You have this odd way of stating things that are clearly subjective opinions as if they were fact. It makes your arguments a lot less credible. The reality is that nobody can state much of anything definitively on how players will ultimately develop over several years. If these things were so obvious then every team's draft board would pretty much look alike.

Williams isn't as bad as you say on defense. He has come up with some big stops at key moments to win games last year.

What I like best about Williams is what I like least about McGee. Williams is a winner. He was far and away the best player on a team that went deep into the tournament and took down the #1 seed. Williams comes up big at the ends of games, even games in which he underperforms like the Texas game. Most importantly, Williams is consistently intense on the court. He plays with a fiery disposition, hates to lose, and doesn't wander in and out of games like All Day Dray.

I think Williams has that same drive to work on his game and become great that Wall does, and his temperament and skill sets seem to complement Wall nicely.

I wish we could get Singleton and Williams. With Singleton, Williams, Wall, and Booker, we'd have some guys on this team that prepare and play like intense SOB's.

At 20 years old and by all accounts a late bloomer, barely top 100 in HS, I really doubt he's peaked.

Here's an interesting quote:
Arguably Williams' best asset on the offensive end at the college level is his ability to get to the foul line. He does a tremendous job seeking out and playing through contact, ranking amongst the top-5 players in our database in free throw attempts per-40 minutes pace adjusted.

Offensively, Kanter has been the biggest, strongest player on the floor at every level he's competed at thus far, making him similar to Kosta Koufos (U-18 2007) and Dejan Musli (U18 2009) when comparing productivity at the European championship junior level. That won't always be the case in the NBA. Kanter's footwork, decision making and overall basketball IQ don't appear to be better than average. These are areas of his game that he didn't have the chance to work on in a serious way over the last few years. He doesn't show much in the way of a left hand, either, and he struggles to pass out of double teams, preferring to force the issue or rely on his brute strength rather than making the smart pass.

From DraftExpress.com http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Fin ... z1OnwNQDXZ
http://www.draftexpress.com

Did they really say he's similar to Koufas? Do they seriously believe that he wouldn't eat Koufas for lunch and dinner? And who in the NBA - other than Superman - is going to stop his power moves?

Gilbert Arenas was great a drawing fouls. That has nothing to do with the fact that he gets bullied by powerforwards on defense. And it will get even worse when he gets into the nba. D.Williams is allergic to post defense. He wants to be perimeter defender not a post defender, aka i am a small forward.

I like d.Williams as small forward but my first statement is that he isn't a better powerforward than Blatche. He would be a significant upgrade at the small forward spot. Our perimeter defense doesn't improve from last year with D.Williams as our starting small forward but we will get better offensive production.
AGain, most areas that a powerforward is suppose to be excel at, Blatche is better at it than D.Williams. Most things that a small forward excels at, D. Williams is better at it than Blatche.

Kanter is soft especially if you are comparing to historically strong non soft players like Howard, Artest, Oakley, Laimbeer, Zach Randolph, Duncan, Shaq, Garnett, Robinson, Bynum, Rasheed and Ben, Chandler, Hilario, Cartwright, Alonzo Morning ect. ect.--Star bigs that have normally been drafted in the top five.

kanter doesn't have a protect the rim type persona. He has good energy going after rebounds and his put backs are normally soft. He is coordinated and strong lower body but he quickly backs down to other aggresive post men. He doesn't have alpha male personality.

So now we find the root of the problem. WizD is petrified that DWill will come in and supplant his pet Blatche. it all makes sense now.

Blatche's hide and don't seek pick and roll defense makes anyone look like a good defender by comparison.

But I'm higher on Seraphin than many on the board are as well

to play without fouling).

I like Seraphin as well. I actually enjoyed it when Flip would go with a Booker/Seraphin front court. Undersized, yes, but tough! I don't think it would work for 40 mins a game, but it looked good in spurts to give the team energy, toughness, etc.

as long as we are replacing Blatche with a better overall player than Blatche, you won't see any concerns from me. None of you have proposed that player in any of your scenarios which is troubling.

McGee, #6 and #18. :o

Actual Derrick Williams is a pretty physical inside defender...WizD is dead wrong on that assessment, and is proving that he's seen very little of Williams.

DWill's shortcomings on defense won't come from unwillingness to play defense...it will come from him being undersized at a shade under 6'9. He'll get shot over consistently. I guess that's why he came out and said he's a small forward, but at 250 lbs he's not going to have much say in the matter.
