DWill's shortcomings on defense won't come from unwillingness to play defense...it will come from him being undersized at a shade under 6'9. He'll get shot over consistently. I guess that's why he came out and said he's a small forward, but at 250 lbs he's not going to have much say in the matter.

DWill's standing reach of 9' is 1" higher than Horford who made the All-Star team as a center.

Blatche is a better overall powerforward than Williams.

Once again you win the award for Best Unintentional Comedy in a post. Congrats

I think someone made the comment a few pages back that DWill's standing reach is only 1" shorter than Bosh's. Bosh is a good 3" taller cause he got a long a$$ neck. but you don't play defense with the top of your head.

I remember when we picked McGee we were all collectively po'ed and then we saw some of the physical gifts he had we warmed to the idea.

How much you want to bet we get stuck with Vesely, collectively blow a gasket on draft day only to find out later he's a 6'11" Ginobili?

I 6'11" Ginobili would have savvy, passing, handles, and an innate sense of the moment to pair with height and semi-mediocre shooting ability.

Vesely currently has none of those.

And in Bosh's case, you pretty much don't play defense at all. 8-)

Bosh does have an ostrich-like neck. Then again, his head is so small - maybe they even each other out. Either way, he looks extremely long, so if DWill's standing reach is only 1 inch shorter, his length is more than okay.

6'7 no shoes. Any person in their right mind see's that he meets the bare minimum height requirements for a small forward, let alone power forward.
But that's what happens when you have been fan of losing team for years. You try to put a square peg into a round hole and then get frustrated why your team is gets stuck in mediocrity.

9'0 standing reach is not good for a powerforward. Trying to emulate mediocre Atlanta Hawks roster that has never gone deep in the playoffs because they have the incorrect pieces should be a lesson to those who find idea of building a championship team an slightly interesting hobby. Atlanta's model is a failure. 7'1 wingspan is not good for powerful. D.Williams has ideal small forward dimension and if he could lose about 20 lbs, he probably would be agile enough to defend nightly on the perimeter. He needs to get his diet together.
So no D. williams doesn't have the powerforward measurements at all. I would not want him as my starting powerforward because i know longterm it doesn't work if you want to be a deep playoff team. I would rather D.Williams lose weight than force him to defend a position that he is clearly undersized to play. His college stats also indicate that he isn't a dominant defensive power forward.
If we get him, i hope we have proven nutritionist to get him down to 230 and reduce his body fat.
Build your team w/5 shooters using P. Pierce Form deeply bent hips and lower back arch at same time b4 rising into shot. Elbow never pointing to the ground! Good teams have an engine player that shoot volume (2000 full season) at 50 percent.Large Hands

His wingspan measurement was 7'1.5 - which was longer than what both Noah and Horford measured at. Agreed that he should lower his body fat, and I probably wouldn't want him playing PF exclusively, but he's certainly long enough to play it.

Derrick Williams
height: 6-8.75
wing: 7-1.5
standing reach: 9-0

Jokim Noah
height: 7-0
wing: 7-1.25
standing reach: 8-10.5

Carlos Boozer
height: 6-9.5
wing: 7-2.25
standing reach: 9-0.5

Again, you don't play D with the top of your head. Williams is longer than Noah, 0.5" shorter standing reach than Boozer.

More fiction. Blake Griffin's standing reach is 8'9". I guess he should be playing the 3, right? Amare's standing reach is 9' 1/2".

Tyson Chandlers standing reach is 9'2". Bogut's is 9'2.5". Both play center.

you guys sure love to use non hall of fame players as your prototypes for building a championship team.

This all seems pretty far off track.

If either McGee or Blatche were in this draft they'd be the consensus #1 pick. And Seraphin would be a lottery pick as well.

For starters, trading big for small is usually cardinal sin. Even if Derrick Williams can play PF and even if he becomes an all-star caliber player, I would still be hesitant to give up anything more than the #6 and Seraphin for him.

For all the bellyaching of fans, there have been plenty of NBA coaches to comment on McGee being a defensive difference maker if just for his shotblocking who was invited into the National Team program. Trading him AND a lottery pick for a SF/PF, even a very good one, is borderline insane. Trading him straight up for a Derrick Williams would still be a bad idea.

As for the Blatche hate, which continues to be out-of-control, I seriously doubt EG would consider moving him either. I don't understand how all of you think that 24 year old 6'11'' players who average 18/8 hurt and going through the motions and are under contract fall off trees. If Derrick Williams is averaging 18/8 within 2 years he'll be seen as a very successful draft pick.

Trading DOWN makes far more sense than trading up. This isn't the final piece to the puzzle so adding more big men prospects (exactly like OKC has done with Aldrich, Mullens, ibaka) or BPA is the way to go. You can never have enough big men prospects but perfectly fine SG, SF, and PF can be found much more easily.

Look the award for Best Unintentional Comedy in a post has already been awarded to WizD. You can't take it from him although i certainly applaud the attempt.

Not sure which is more comical: Blatche going #1 in this draft or offering Seraphin and #6 for #2.
