...so what do you do when it turns out that TT is not an Ed Davis clone?

Poll: Would you swap ED for a Canadian ED; Tristan Thompson?
So, an interesting development is arising. TT, who by all accounts has had tremendous workouts wherever he's gone and has really improved his stock is working out for us tomorrow. This is surprising because he is a pf, and only a pf, he's not a c or sf.
So here's my conspiracy theory. Virtually every draft pundit calls TT and EDE clone; similar skill set, similar body, etc. So, if you could trade Ed for another lottery pick and use one of the two to draft TT, essentially getting Ed right back, but this time a Canadian version of him who has stated that it's been his dream to play for his hometown team do you do it? Sadly, Ed could very well leave after his rookie contract, but Tristan is from Toronto and would love to be the face of the franchise. Interesting developments, to say the least.

I'd be tempted, but the fact that Ed already had a good rookie year in the NBA means a lot to me.

I don't think Ed Davis and Tristan Thompson are that similar. Thompson can do some straight line drives to the basket and does have a 38 inch vertical (saw it on a ESPN sport science clip). I think with work TT could be a SF, but he is a few years away from reaching his potential. Really, TT isn't a stretch for us to draft but it would have to be based on the thinking that he can be converted to SF in time.

The same thing you do if the #5 pick turns out to be a bust. The draft is always a gamble. But TT's work ethic and skill set is off the chart. Read up on how he's done so far, he's getting rave reviews.

While Thompson is a great prospect, he isn't comparable to Davis in terms of talent. While his skill-set is similar, Thompson would be a significant downgrade in both size and skill. That said, I think it would be a great move if B.C. could move Amir and take Thompson with an acquired pick. Thompson would then play behind Davis at PF (but would also provide some insurance in case Davis was to leave).
Tristan Thompson is about as far from a SF as any PF prospect I have ever seen.

Absolutely not. Davis was a better prospect and is a proven NBA player.

people wont admit it but they want Thompson just because he is Canadian.... Ed Davis is the better player
enough of the Canadian homerism....... might as well sign Carl English, remember him, few years back
i wouldnt do anything stupid, like swaping them

TT is in no way, shape or form a sf. he is the very definition of a pf.

I wouldn't do it just to trade Ed for another lottery pick. If it's a scenario where we're getting a real upgrade at another position using Ed (perhaps at C?), then fine--- not simply taking TT, who we hope *might* be as good as Ed, simply because we're afraid that Ed might leave in 6 years.

I think TT is gonna drop in the draft due to his measurement, and Davis is the better offensive player (potential wise). So at most Kleiza + Alabi/Ajinca + cash for TT.

No thanks, Ed is a better player in my opinion (especially on the defensive end).

not a 1 for 1 swap. If they gave us something else sure. Ed is already proven in the NBA.

I'd prefer to keep Stew and give Monte Morris
I'd really prefer to keep Morris and Stew and give the great Killian Hayes and 2nd round picks

TT is a projected lottery pick, English went undrafted; stupid analogy. Yes of course TT being Canadian is a factor, one would be stupid to not recognize that. But the point is, he had a great freshman year at Texas, has been killing it at every workout that he's had, has a great work ethic and has been compared to Ed Davis by more than one pundit. He is from Toronto and said that it's his dream to play for the Raptors. Sadly, there's a better than 50/50 chance that ED leaves for an American team once his rookie contract is up; with TT, no such issue arises.
