Him and Linus now can be best of friends, it worked out well for Rasho-Slokar, Marco-Andrea, and Calderon-Jorge.

You're kidding right?

How many of those moves are in the last 2 years? Ajinca was a throw in, BC knew he wasn't a difference maker.

The fact that you even throw Barbosa in there in a failed attempt to prove your misguided point is laughable.

I could not be happier right now. A 12 and 10 guy with about 1.5 blocks and awesome defense. The only reason you would hate this pick is that his last name is not american, and that is it.

No one here is loving the pick because of what they've seen of him play. It's because of the scouting reports and stats. Those youtube clips are meaningless.

Well, John Hollinger ranked Jonas Valaciunas 4th on his draft rater, so that's got to say something.

Wrong. A thousand times wrong.

We have 4 bigs. Bargs and Amir signed to money for a handful of years. Ed and Jonas signed to rookie deals for a handful of years. We have no financial reason to deal one now. We have the luxury of a crowded frontcourt with which we can take time to evaluate and not panic. We have a strength. Utilize it. And if the time comes to deal, move the piece that makes the most sense from a position of strength.

For those who like this pick, what do you think Val's ceiling is? My assessment, he's mainly a pick and roll player, I don't see the defense in him that people are stapling onto his resume, good rebounder, decent shotblocker, can't create his own shot. So a taller Joakim Noah with more of a pick and roll game with less defense. That's a decent player I guess.

I love seeing posters who haven't been around since the season ended, and haven't contributed to any of the many draft discussion threads that have been going for the past month, swoop in to complain about what an obviously horrible pick this is.

bigdirty wrote:We needed defensive toughness inside and/or a good PG prospect. We don't need a weak PF/C who might turn into a poor man's Gasol. We had Biyombo who people are comparing to Ben Wallace(EXACTLY what we need) and 2 PG prospects in Knight or Kemba Walker who I both think will be good NBA players.

Just an all around disaster. 3 good prospects I'd put ahead of Val and we went with him. Matter of opinion, but that's why I'm against Val.

and how are you so sure of how it's going to pan out? Biyombo's also a project and extremely raw, just like Solomon Alabi. The guy is overzealous on D, which means he might not even be able to stay in the game due to foul trouble (remember Hoffa?). His offense is like at the same level as Joel Anthony's. He could turn out to be a bust or he could turn out to be a mini-Mutumbo. Just because he was compared to Ben Wallace, doesn't mean he'd actually get there. Jonas was compared to Sabonis, which is >> Big Ben.

Some people don't think Kemba/Knight may even turn out to be better than Bayless.

The point is, we can only project how these players will turn out, we don't know for sure. It was a consensus among scouts and teams that Jonas could have the highest potential in the draft and that he was a top 5 pick. The other three you mentioned, not so much. Bashing him just because he's Euro is dumb. Some guys here say he can rebound and block shots, which is something we need. He might be skinny, but he's only 19 and has a solid frame with a long wingspan. Who knows, maybe he'd be more effective as a defender being more fundamental compared to Biyombo, who's more athletic.

Great pick for the Raptors ... We would keep sucking for next years draft, get a high draft pick and have Jonas develop his game and body in Europe.
