I can't wait until people are surprised when Valanciunas comes in with 20 more lbs, a polished offensive game, higher understanding of Basketball, and drop their jaws in awe of what a beast he is.

I didn't say Val was McGee, but Noah has an extremely high basketball IQ. It's really really high. Don't think Val's is anywhere near close his.

I don't think Valanciunas' IQ is on par with Noah because he still struggles to time his shot blocking correctly leading to some fouling issues. Nonetheless, knowing when to cut and when to go up for the tip-in offensive rebound putback requires some IQ.

Who says we need a finesse jump shooting big? Amir and Ed cannot play C full time and this kid can.

I know I quoted you, but I was kind of referring to the argument you having with that other guy. If you read what I wrote, you will see I am agreeing with you. Why on earth would I be advocating for another jump shooting big man?

Nope, it was just expected that Valanciunas would be gone by five. The Cavs seemed locked in on him at four for quite some time.

Yeah apparently Valanciunas was the smokescreen, just not for us. Nice night for Tristan Thompson! Why the Cas took him when they have Hickson and Varejao is a bit mystifying though.

I am not gonna kill BC for the pick only because i have never seen Jonas play and have no idea of where his game is at but i do find it funny that everything he is saying about Jonas is exactly what he said about Bargs.

Bosh isn't real 5 and we need him to play 4. Bargs will be a 5 and we are glad to have him on our team blah blah blah

fast forward

I think Valanciunas will be a great pick. It's the second year that a gift just dropped on us out of the sky.

Buyout issues with Val might have scared them off. Dan Gilbert is pretty desperate to get that ship turned around, and it might've looked bad if one of his two picks couldn't come over this year.

And there's no guarantee Bargs plays with Val. The buyout is far from sorted and the lock out is far from sorted. Even if both were, I doubt Val would be starting at C with all of his 230 lb frame at 19 years old.

It does, but it's only one part of basketball IQ. Landry Fields I'd say has a high basketball IQ in that he knows when to cut or choose his spots to exploit lazy defenses, but you can't count on him to make a spectacular pass with the ball when he's driving to the hoop. For him I'd say it's more important seeing defensive plays before they happen because he doesn't have quite the athleticism to recover for a blocked shot, so he has to approach defense a more cerebral way like Noah does. And while he isn't terrible in this regard, it isn't that special.

I like this pick. I think the uncertainty with Utah and Knight helped land him. With a lookout looming, I don't see a big deal with the buy out either way.

No athletecism. No shotblocking instincts. Backup big man upside. AWFUL.

If you can watch that video and not see BIG STIFF written all over him, I don't know what to tell you.

Must be nice for Cavs fans to have an owner who wants to turn things around. Sadly we have BC running things.

The stats that matter are this: 14 MPG. Why? Because 8.5 fouls/40 minutes.

He can't stay on the court long enough to get minutes in Europe. In the NBA opposing teams are going to go after him as a game plan. With the star calls in the NBA you can count on his foul rate increasing.

So there will be a natural regression of all his stats except fouls which will increase. He may be a great foul shooter- but he doesn't get to the line much in Europe and he'll get to it even less in the NBA.

That's why he's a bad pick.

his ft% , 2pt % , wingspan and reb are great.

and the 0.5 blocks per game will look great alongside Bargnani for the next years

Great pickup. With added Muscle within his huge frame, I see a defensive force as well as a low post scorer.

Solid pick. I thought it was Biyombo all the way but he was more of a smokescreen.

So this Val guy is crazy long, plays good defense, great rebounder, shoots amazing ft, and ALWAYS goes to the hoop. He has good IQ.

I wasnt expecting it but we got a good player it seems and maybe even the BPA. He needs to bulk up next.

Um, Val did finish those alley-oop plays. How does that explain he has no athleticism?

I wouldnt say awful, but he's not the rim protector, defensive center colangelo himself said we needed.
