What does JV do that Amir and Ed have not shown that they can't do? He is not a defensive specialist by any stretch, based on scouting we've all read. He doesn't have any offensive weaponry other then Orebounding. I guess he's taller? But also thinner.

I'm in the wait and see side. Very tentative on this one.

What are his measurements? In the vid of the guy dissing his play he says he is only 6'10"

So, a Center who rebounds exceptionally well, blocks shots, and dunks on almost every roll he gets doesn't show toughness? Right...

Well lets hope we trade Andrea because no way he and Andrea can play together. Ed Davis will make our front court salvageable. Lets hope we get one of the young stud wings in next years draft as we will likely finish in the bottom of the league once again unless BC strikes gold.

It is called "best player available".

Man, all we need is a star-caliber player at PG or SF, and we'll be set imo.

PG
DeRozan
SF
Davis
Valanciunas

Maybe, Bayless and Johnson step up, and I certainly hope one of those guys will be able to fill the void at those respective positions, but we're going to need either DeMar to turn into a star, or draft one, preferably at one of those spots.

Also, it was interesting listening to Dwane Casey - apparently, we're targeting some C, or somebody in FA for next year.

Valanciunas sounds like he wants to come over next year, but BC sounded less sure of that.

He's 19... You can always add muscle mass with the right conditioning/diet. So I'm sure he'll be NBA ready by the time he gets here in 2 years time. You can't teach 7.0 ft or that ridiculous wingspan. He might be euro but from all scouting accounts he seems to play decent defense and above all ACTUALLY @##@$@# REBOUNDS.

We are nowhere near ready to being a contender, what's so wrong about getting the max bang for the buck (even if it's a slight gamble) and in the process tank ourselves next year (while shedding salary) and make a move for a big FA in 2012? As long as the kid rebounds, plays solid D you cannot ask/expect more from a center. From the history of the Raps this might be the first time we get a legitimate center that isn't undersized and won't be a pylon on D.

Rather have a projected kid that might be an all-star rather than one that would be a solid role player at best.

I didn't want us picking Knight cause I wanted Biyombo but even I preferred him over the shorter Rik Smits.

Numerous posters have already proved Valaciunas plays nothing like Bargnani.

I know he doesn't. But hes still a pansy European whose weakness once again is his strength.

Amir and Ed aren't centers. This team has a ton of power forwards who are playing out of position. Raptors got the BPA and filled a need at the same time.

First post here..

Been reading the forums and following the Raps ever since Bosh left TO (weird time to become a fan I know), and I after reading the first few pages I was kind of shocked at how ignorant some of the posters were about drafting Val. Some poster called him Bargnani from Lithuania (besides being Euro, White and 7 feet, there aren't many similarities between their games), other posters were cursing out BC and questioning his re-signing, another poster wanted to bring a shotgun to BC and his family.

Man, some people in the fan-base are just ridiculous. It doesn't seem like many read the scouting reports, but rather, they just regurgitate what other posters say and go with who/what others are going for (Like the whole Brandon Knight obsession, I never understood it considering the fact that we have Bayless already). OR they just jumped to the conclusion that any euro is a bad pick/Bargnani.

Anyway, it seems like as time has gone after the Jonas pick, some people are actually googling his draft profile and realizing that he's considered potentially the best player in this draft, with the main drawback right now being his buyout problem and the fact that he'll most likely miss a year. Jonas can rebound, has a high motor, BOXES OUT, and gives it his all on the offensive end AND the defensive end - although he tends to foul a lot, kind of reminiscent to Amir's defensive game. I mean really, you guys wanted a "true" centre to pair up with Bargnani (or just to be on the team), and now we have one. But you guys still complain..

Considering that most users here want to tank to theoretically get a better pick in the next draft (not that I support this kind of crap), shouldn't this buyout problem not even be a issue for you? I mean, if he's gonna miss a year, that means we lose more. And losing more, apparently, makes you guys happy.

BTW: Boy do I wish that his English was better though.

Honestly, even if we picked Kawhi Leonard I would have continued to watch.

Yes. Called it over and over on this board. In BC we trust. Great pick.

As for the so called raptor fans saying they are done with the team... can we at least make it so they are done with RealGM? Won't happen I know, but would be sweet.

Kingston(chick) was calling it as well. Dagger too. But whatevs. Just glad the pick was Jonas.

And the dude who threatened BC and his family with a shotgun? Expose his real identity or at least IP on this board please.

His rebounding is overrated in my opinion. And blocking shot and dunking doesn't mean toughness either. We need a post defender, someone who will bang bodies. Someone who clogs the lane. Not a bunch of Euro's swatting at balls.

Who cares?
Taller Amir Johnson might just be one of the best players in this draft.
