yeah, klinsmann seems to be the one getting all the attention right now. we've tried to get him twice before but he wanted total control over the youth system as well which scared the USSF.

other name i hear mentioned is lippi, former italian coach, but that would be a bit of a surprise.

what else can you tell us about klinsmann det?

bundeliga time.... det, i finally get goltv so for the first time i believe i will be able to see a handful of bundesliga games this season. i cant wait. right now i only get premier league and serie a. i dont really enjoy watching serie a. i would much rather watch bundesliga.

i watched bayern this week in the audi cup. first game vs ac milan they were looking great. robben seemed to be back to his 2009-10 form.... and then of course he got injured again. and as always ribbery is injured. i am also looking forward to seeing all the ex chelsea youth players at hamburg. they have 3 ex chelsea youth players: mancienne, tore and sala as well as bruma who is on loan. i also want to see timmy chandler play a full season at nuremberg. and usa backup keeper david yelldell is now the starting keeper at leverkusen (for now). and of course usa right back steve cherundolo at hannover.

any word on bradley and jermaine jones?

I had guessed Jurgen in my first post and it looks like he's the frontrunner. It's yet to be seen whether or not he'll get the freedom he wants. I found a couple of nice ESPN links on the topic

Analysis: http://espn.go.com/sports/soccer/news/_ ... eam-soccer

Ramifications: http://espn.go.com/sports/soccer/news/_ ... f-carlisle

Replacements: http://espn.go.com/sports/soccer/news/_ ... ley-soccer

Interesting they think Bielsa is another favorite. They say he was interviewed to be our "technical director", whatever that is, so I wonder if he'll be the surprise choice? I don't really know much about him.

I think it wouldn't be all that bad if Klinsmann, or his staff(which is more likely), would have some control over your youth system as well.

If Lippi's the choice, you should get ready for some quite defensive minded soccer.

fatlever wrote:what else can you tell us about klinsmann det?

He's more of a motivator then a tactical coach and gets a lot out of his players for a short period of time(like World Cups).
He's not looked all that great while coaching Bayern, but got the short end of the stick by the Bayern bosses, especially by Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

He'd most likely bring in a completely new coaching staff with lots of fitness coaches etc.

And as far as tactical things go, he'll need a very good assistant coach for that, cause everything tactical during his tenure as coach for Germany was done by Joachim Loew.

Sounds great, have fun while watching Bundesliga.

I'm pretty sure they'll most likely broadcast Bayern most of the time and maybe you're able to catch my team on the first day of the league(next Sunday), when we'll play at Bayern.
If that's the case get ready for a pretty evenly matched game which Bayern will win 1-0 or 2-1, like all the time, as we've only won once at Munich in about 40 tries.
Though, they nearly never win at Moenchengladbach. :D

Yeah, should be fun for you to watch your countryman in Germany.
Hope you'll enjoy it.

Don't expect to see either of them in Germany this upcoming season.

Jones had been on loan in England and Schalke does not want him back to save his salary.

Bradley had already been sold to Aston Villa, at least we thought so, but they chose not to sign him in the last moment and that's why he's back on our team.
Though, he's not been in our squad during training matches and won't be with us today in Regensburg(3rd Division), when we'll play our first round game of the German Cup.

He's told our coach he wants to leave and it seems pretty likely that Italy(Bologna, Napoli, Roma have been linked with him) will be the next stop on his journey in Europe.

I've always liked that name... it's like if there were an Englishman named "Pigmaster" or "Hogmanager."

I'm thrilled to have Klinsmann. He's had success on the international level, he's an icon in himself, and most importantly I think he's going to actually make the USA interesting to watch.

I'm excited because I know Torres will finally get his shot to see some minutes on the field. His technical ability is surely something Jurgen covets, right?

i hope you are right swedd. i am dying to see torres get back on the squad. he is the best holding mid we have. he did not deserve to get buried.

klinsmann needs to look towards the future and really start to develop the younger guys. here's who i want to see more from:

adu
torres
holden
chandler
lichaj
agudelo

That's Tobias Schweinsteiger, who's currently playing for Regensburg.
He's Bastian's older but less talented brother.

As far as Klinsmann coaching the USA goes:

Get ready for him to change quite some things and play lots of players, especially the younger ones.
He did that with Germany when he made Podolski, Schweinsteiger, Mertesacker etc. regular starters and even took a guy like Marcell Jansen(who was only 20 back then) or Robert Huth to the world cup.

Another nice score from yesterdays 1st round of the German cup.

Dynamo Dresden(2nd Bundesliga) - Bayer Leverkusen 4-3(OT)

The scoreline:

0-1 Derdyok(6th minute)
0-2 Sam(12th minute)
0-3 Schuerrle(49th minute)
1-3 Schuppan(68th minute)
2-3 Koch(70th minute)
3-3 Koch(86th minute)
4-3 Schnetzler(117th minute)

Also, Werdern Bremen has been kicked out of the competition losing 2-1 at 3rd division side Heidenheim, while some 2nd Bundesliga sides(St. Pauli and Cottbus) lost to 4th division teams Kiel and Trier.

Here are the scores
http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/dfbp ... eltag.html

BTW: Yesterday there was also the drawing of the qualification groups for the World Cup 2014 in Brazil.

Germany got Sweden, Ireland, Austria, Foroe Islands and Kazakhstan in group C.
We're certainly the clear favourites here, but those teams will absolutely test us and it's a pretty interesting group as well, with those different styles of football and that "derby" against Austria.

France got quite unlucky(after being send to pot 2, while teams like Norway(how the hell did that happen?) and Greece(probably because of their EC in 2004) had been placed in pot 1) as they were drawn together with Spain and also made it to the one group with only five teams. That means they'll have to win all of those other games, as only the best eight 2nd place teams will make it to the playoffs and that's being decided point total, with them having two games less then those other eight groups.

Here are all the groups from europe:

seriously, how did norway get into pot 1? they havent qualified for the world cup since 98 and for euro cup since 2000. i am confused.

det, what do you think of belgium a few years from now? seems as though they have some really good young talent on that team (courtois - gk, de bruyn - mf, lukaku - f, hazzard - f, all 20 and under). plus some solid vets in their prime like kompany and vermaelen, both only 25) i wonder if they can give croatia and serbia a run in group A. that team seems to have great potential for the next cycle.

doc, how is czech looking these days?

i guess its time for france to stop underachieving and put on their big boy pants and step up.

slovenia and switzerland have to be loving their draw.

I don't think anyone understands how the heck Norway got into pot one.

Maybe there was some strange FIFA numbers that suggested this because they won some friendly tournaments in the 1960's(don't google it, it's just a running gag for Fifa's judgement and placement of teams  ) or Fifa's headquarters just had a nice drinking game in deciding those pots and Norway gave them the best tasting alcohol.

Belgium is quite talented and you haven't really listed the very good players like Steven Defour, Axel Witsel etc.
Though, they somehow still find ways not to get their act together, as I think they should win 2nd place in our current EC qualification group.

And yeah, Switzerland and Slovenia should like that group, but Norway does have a chance there.
Also, Group G is one that's wide open, cause Greece isn't all that good anymore, Slovakia was a surprise to even make the 2010 WC and the sleeper here is Bosnia-Herzegovina, as they're very talented(Dzeko, Pjanic, Misimovic, etc.) and only lost out on the last WC thanks to two 1-0 losses to Portugal.
Also, England should have their hands full, as Montenegro(Jovetic, Vucinic etc.) is one of the toughest and most talented 2nd seeds and it's not all that easy playing in the Ukraine(especially if it's during winter time) and Poland.

Still awful. Everybody sane wants NT manger to be sacked. We don't even have a head of our federation right now. And it is not like Nt players are known for work ethic and really trying. No system shows too.

Only joy comes from u-19 team currently on Euro - tomorrow si the finals against Spain, probably first match we won't win. Hřebík is currently best czech coach - who couldn't succeed in club footbal because of player agents, media, local lazy star players and thus fans against him.

Slovenia is very happy with our draw :) Although Switzerland is not the easiest team from 3rd draw. We are happy as this group gives us a nice chance to advance. But from what I have read all the teams in our group are ecstatic with the draw.

The problem is that Slovenia has a bad record with Norway (3 losses, 1 draw). But that is about to change :)

Get yourselves ready for quite some new faces over the next few exhibition games, as Klinsmann certainly will try a lot of things.

Also, I really liked for you guys that Klinsmann said the same thing I've told you some time ago.
You've got quite some quality in the junior ranks, but many of those have got dual citizenship and need to be recruited by the US, to play for them.

BTW: As you'll face Mexico on August 10th, Germany will host Brazil in Stuttgart.
Joachim Loew selected his squad for this friendly as well and left out Oezil and Khedira, so they can stay in Madrid in preparation of the new season.

The German squad will consist of:

Goalkeepers:
Manuel Neuer(Bayern Munich), Tim Wiese(Werder Bremen)

Defenders:
Dennis Aogo(Hamburg), Holger Badstuber(Bayern Munich), Jerome Boateng(Bayern Munich), Benedikt Hoewedes(Schalke), Mats Hummels(Dortmund), Phillip Lahm(Bayern Munich), Christian Traesch(Wolfsburg)

Midfielders:
Sven Bender(Dortmund), Mario Goetze(Dortmund), Ilkay Guendogan(Dortmund), Tony Kroos(Bayern Munich), Thomas Mueller(Bayern Munich), Lukas Podolski(Cologne), Marco Reus(Moenchengladbach), Simon Rolfes(Leverkusen), Andre Schuerrle(Leverkusen), Bastian Schweinsteiger(Bayern Munich)

Attackers:
Miroslav Klose(Lazio Roma), Mario Gomez(Bayern Munich), Cacau(Stuttgart)

BTW: Mainz qualifying for the EL didn't really help the Bundesliga, as they were kicked out of the EL in the 3rd qualification round against some team from Romania...

Surprised he went with Beasley. He's what, 30 now? I guess he's there because he has the experience that a lot of others lack. Intrigued by the Hamid selection... Howard being in his early 30s means we need to find a successor before it's too late.

I would've liked to see Lichaj, Robbie Rogers, Bunbury, Davies, and maybe even Eddie Johnson get more time on the field, but I'm sure he has reasons for not selecting them. I've never really been impressed with Buddle's lack of skill and touch around the goal so I'd have liked his spot to go to someone else (Glad they learned from the Findley mistake). Same goes for Ricardo Clark.

Any indication why Altidore, Dempsey, Holden, Gooch, and Spector didn't get selected? Club commitments I assume?

i need to check to see if i can see that brazil vs germany game on tv this weekend. fox soccer usually shows brazil's friendlies.

re: swedd - yeah, i assume klinnsman gave dempsey a break. he is just now returning to fulham after having some time off after gold cup. altidore is just returning from his hammy injury and just moved to a new club, so it makes sense to let him stay and get healthy. spector also just moved to birmingham last week so maybe good for him to stay and get settled. as for gooch, i think he just sucks now :) lichaj is recovering from injury i think. eddie johnson?

apparently beasley has been looking good recently playing in mexican league.
