schools like that are so dirty. the entire "school" consists of the basketball team, all recruited from out of town. they get tutored essentially by another school (in huntingtons case classes take place in an old retail store). huntington isnt even in the states high school basketball league. they just travel and play against other "schools" like that, such as findlay prep. aau really has poisoned high school basketball.

but teh death of HS ball aside, congrats to him. im sure it will help his development as a basketball player. hopefully the huge culture shock of both the school and the area wont affect him too bad

never knew about this...

doesn't seem like the culture shock affected Myck, Corey or Tristan... Well it only helped Tristan after he got kicked out of St Benedicts

A lot of Canadian teenagers from Bounce/Grassroots enter a program in pairs, probably due to some encouragement from Ro.

***CROWN VIDEO***:Myck Kabongo, Tristan Thompson & Cory Jose

Post#264 » by HoopsGod » Thu Aug 4, 2011 11:53 am

CROWN was on hand Wednesday, August 3rd as several players balled out at the Eastview Neighborhood Community Centre in downtown Toronto for Myck Kabongo's community event. NBA player Tristan Thompson, NBA player Cory Joseph, Anthony Bennett, Dylan Ennis, Naz Long, Nevell Provo, Tristan Martin and many more turned out in a packed gymnasium as the area residents came out to see one of their own...Myck Kabongo do his thing. Kabongo showed off his uncanny handles and lightning quick speed to get into the paint while Thompson played hard throwing down several highlight worthy crams to the crowd's extreme enjoyment. A great evening of hoops, which was supposed to be a pickup game but turned out to be a celebration of Canadian basketball's rising talent level.
Interviews to come soon with Thompson & Kabongo as well as Joseph and Alex Johnson who transferred to NC State from UC Bakersfield.

So TT can't represent his country because he hasn't signed his rookie contract yet and could suffer a career ending injury, but he can play in a streetball charity event? The hypocrisy is astounding. I'd love to hear from all of you TT apologists on this. SMH

Because there is a difference between playing a low-intensity pick-up game with your friends and spending weeks training and playing in a high intensity international tournament with grown men.

Donovan Bailey ruined his career because of an injury in a pick-up game. Ed Davis hurt himself in a pick-up game last year. I would say playing in a competitive game with other players taking it seriously is safer than playing in a pick-up game.

Throughout the course of an NBA season and off-season, the vast majority of injuries occur during the course of a competitive game. Injuries during pick-up games and everyday life become news stories because they are such rare occurrences (and therefore stick in our minds more).

I hear what Sonrise is saying...it's tough to see him playing...but one game is one game. Like "Ebo" said the risks of getting injured in a one-off are way less than playing over several weeks and wearing the body down quite a bit. Most of the "big men" defending Tristan were not playing him overly hard. At one point he was guarded by Anthony Bennett, who was labouring a bit so wasn't really playing him tough and even Cory Joseph was guarding him in the post so it wasn't too taxing a game.

There are a lot of other factors at play here unfortunately that are keeping players like Tristan from playing for Canada. Let's not get too angry with them, I'm disappointed too as I asked them about it last night and want to see Canada do some work internationally, but we can only support and encourage them at this point.
You guys can see what they said about playing for Canada once I get the interviews up with Cory, Tristan and Myck on the weekend. Of course old news but Cory did confirm he's got all the insurance issues dealt with and he's looking forward to playing for Canada. He'll be joining the Nats on August 12th I believe.
Myck wants to play for Canada and so does Tristan. One day I am sure they will suit up and do work for this great country! Think positive.

2012 Canadian F narrows it down to 10 "@ABennett24: #UK, #UConn, #WVU, #Oregon, #Pitt, #UF, #Mizzou, #UNLV, #OSU, #UW"

I hope he does not go to Kentucky.

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketb ... g/rankings

#8 Anthony Bennett
#84 Sim Bhullar
#85 Nick Stauskas

ESPN has a habit of grouping Canadians together. They did the same thing last year with Jankovic and Chan.

Can Bennett eventually learn to play the 3?

I don't think so. He does not have the ball-handling skills to be a 3.

Agree he won't be a 3 at the next level but he is trying to improve his handle and ball skills. Even at the Lebron camp he was working out with the guards during the drills trying to get better.

Also should point out Wiggins #3 and Kevin Zabo #21 in 2014. Looks like Trey Lyles dropped down a bit.

Tyler Ennis is #52 on Scout and I find is more accurate in their 2013 rankings:

Lyles is an American until he says he will play for Canada. He even tried out for their under 16 team and did not make it. That is probably why he dropped.

He is still a Canadian but tried out for the US team. We were hoping to see him in Mexico for the FIBA Americas but didn't make it.

In other news Wiggins is the new #1 for 2014:

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketb ... class/2014

Trey Lyles is #8

Yes, his 3 point jumper is already very good, way better than Wiggins' at the moment.

Don't know if I would quite agree with his shot being better than Wiggins, his shot isn't very consistent. Sometimes he shoots it beautifully, others he puts up air balls or is way off. Either way the point in debate isn't his shooting to play the 3 its his quickness and ball handling.
