I just saw that too and I still don't really get it. Seems odd that we'd break the bank on a guy who doesn't really seem to fit any need.

Lots of renewed speculation surrounding Modric today too, with the report coming out that he asked Redknapp not to play him in today's match.

agree...i think Alvaro Pereira is a great player, one of the best at his position, but despite he can play left miedfield and even a bit left wing, he's at his best as a left defender. Will fit better at Arsenal, for example (of course they would not buy him because he's too expensive)

Looks like De Bruyne deal is finally very close to being done. Most likely staying at Genk for another year, but really excited about this kid's potental.

Armand Traore...the ONLY healthy left back on Arsenal's squad at the moment is going to QPR. Is Wenger seriously this big of an idiot or does he have some big deals in the works?

Did you see him play on sunday? Was one of the worst players I've seen in an Arsenal shirt in some time, then laughed and joked after the game while shaking hands with United players. Glad to see him gone. Rather play Squillaci at LB than Traore, but from what I hear we'll be signing one before the window ends.

I think the good part of this is that he's finally realized that half the players he's been hoarding for the past 6 seasons really aren't that good as he expects them to be. Guys like Traore, Rosicky and co. really didn't even put up a fight on Sunday. Rosicky wasn't even interested in the game.

Its all nice and dandy to play young players and give them a chance but looking at a guy like Jenkinson, he's either really poor or he's just not ready to be out there. The guy looks like he's 140 lbs and 17 years old and if you leave him out there to fend for himself against Rooney and Young, he's going to get slaughtered obviously.

Arsenal need around 6 players to maintain sufficient squad strength and some quality for the starting 11. Moyes just made an advertisement for half his squad the other day. Bids for some players like Arteta, Baines and Jagielka will likely be accepted if Everton isn't low balled.

Oh cool..

Looks like City found a taker for Roque Santa Cruz. That's Adebayor, Santa and SWP all spoken for.

I'd say pretty much everyone looked awful yesterday but I definitely agree about Traore. Had one nice run going forward but besides that he was awful and was consistently getting beaten. Everyone on that back line looked like they should have been playing in MLS. Traore, Jenkinson, and Djourou were exceptionally bad. Koscielny had a couple nice moments but wasn't spectacular at all. Ramsey/Coquelin might be the worst pairing I've seen in any league. I may be in the minority here because I know a lot of people like Ramsey but if he has a starting position, we're in for a looooooong season.

RVP...is going to be one hell of a captain for us. I can't say enough about the guy. Great player, classy player, and seems to genuinely love playing for the club.

As far as transfers...I think it's pretty obvious that we need a winger, central midfielder, and a couple defenders to be worh anything this season. At this point, I fear that even the Europa league may be a stretch with our current squad. The fact that some Arsenal sites are excited that we're signing Park Chu-Young is pretty disturbing... Here's to hoping that Wenger can land someone at the same level as Gourcuff or Hazard.

I don't think it was his performance yesterday that prompted the move. He played because Arsenal couldn't throw enough warm bodies on the pitch to make a squad.

35M euros.

edit: also rumors of Arsenal signing Andre Santos to fill the vacant position that is LB.

Seen some reports of Santos to Arsenal now, looks like it's inching closer.

Everyone was pretty bad, but I thought Traore was the worst player on the pitch. Jenkinson was terrible, but he at least showed a ton of effort to go a long with his horrible positioning. I thought Coquelin was our best midfielder, but the bar wasn't set high there anyway. Ramsey is still regaining form and has played a lot of football already, the full 90 in all our games. Which is more than I think he is ready for, he looks tired. He looked good against Udinese, but poor against both Liverpool, and United.

I love RVP, but he hasn't been at his best this season yet, mostly due to the fact that he's getting zero service and our midfield is a shambles, Arshavin and Walcott have both been poor. He seems to have a great rapport with Gervinho already, so it'll be nice to see him and Wilshere back at some point.

It looks like we're signing Andre Santos for LB, which I like. From what I've seen we also have a 22 Mil bid in for M'Vila, and are in talks with HSV about Elia, Dortmund for Gotze, and several other players. I think we'll end up with Cahill before the windows done also. Can't say I know anything about Park, but from reports I've seen he looks a decent squad player at worst.

Hopefully, we can sign a few good players, and get people healthy for Swansea after the break.

I'm not sure what to think about Santos. I've never seen him play but I've always been skeptical about the defensive abilities of Brazilian left and right backs. They just don't have a great track record overall. With Park, I just find it disturbing that people are getting excited about us signing a backup striker because when it gets to that point, it makes me realize how pathetic the transfer window has been for us so far.

I want at least one big name midfielder at a price that's not ridiculously inflated. We're going to have to pay out of the ass to get Gotze or Hazard and I don't think either guy is worth 35mil yet. I think M'Vila would be the best fit of them all but even 22mil for him seems a bit much. I thought Arsene had a 15mil bid out there for him awhile back and it seems fair to me. I think Elia makes the most sense of all the midfielders we've been linked with so far. He's probably the only guy we won't have to overpay for. Heck, I'd probably even try to get Gourcuff for 25 if that were possible. I don't think he's played for Lyon yet this season so he wouldn't be cup-tied. Cahill for 15mil or less would be good too, if Bolton stops trying to make us overpay. He's good but regardless of his contract status, he's never going to be better than 15mil good.

My dreams:
Cahill-15mil
Gourcuff-25mil(might be a stretch?)
Elia-15mil

Gourcouff and Elia both suck. M'Vila, Cahill and Baines would have been good but I guess Andre Santos isn't too bad
