Yeah. Clyde (Frazier) was a styling mother lover too though.

As a fan of Gary Payton, I'm pissed off.

Naaaaa, not wrong. I just post the stats and stuff as a bit of a chest pump, a bit of bravado. Actually, I do it more because I am amazed at just how awesome the numbers are of these guy's when I research them (and not just the dudes I draft, all of them. It's astounding how good they all were).

He's all sorts of sexy. Cool as a cucumber on the court, the quan of swag off it.
Ya, he bumps up my teams coolness points. No doubt.

Clyde was better defensively than the Glove. No disrespect intended, but Clyde was just better. Better on both ends too, not just on D.

I believe you, since I can't say that I've seen that much of Walt Frazier. Gary Payton's defense on MJ during the '96 finals is quite impressive though.

That's a bit early for Rodman, IMO but I was reallllllly hoping he'd make it back to me. He's a great compliment for any team. You just have to hope for an explosive wing to help round out that lineup

Re: *NEW* Retro Scavenger Draft - Crunk's pick
Slam claims that Frazier is the best defensive point guard ever, will this fella is the only point guard to win defensive player of the year. There are plenty who would argue he is the best defensive point guard ever.
For the Ironman category, he played 47,117, I pick Gary Payton.

NBA Champion: 2006
NBA Defensive Player of The Year: 1996 (only point guard ever to win the award, and only guard to win the award in the 1990s)
9-time NBA All-Star: 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003
9-time All-NBA:
First Team: 1998, 2000
Second Team: 1995, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2002
Third Team: 1994, 2001
9-time All-Defensive First Team member: 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999*, 2000*, 2001, 2002 (shares record for selections with Michael Jordan)[28][29]
This team is going to have some attitude!

1. I've had enough of you buttheads taking my picks
2. I was really trying to hold my tongue on the "Willis Reed is Not "one" of the best, "THE" best" cockamamie Slam has been trying to spread. Nobody with the nickname Clyde is a better defender than one with the nickname the Glove. Nope. No sir. No way.
Give me a sec, I'm going to have to readjust. I had Payton's argument all set up on my behalf.

Re: *NEW* Retro Scavenger Draft - Countryboi's pick
Defense happens on both sides of the ball. Sure, locking someone down or picking their pocket is kinda cool (which Walt did very well BTW) - but roll on down the court, take the high post, pick your spot and drain the J with the clock winding down in a big game moment and that transcends offense and actually becomes defense. The difference is that Clyde was SO good at it that most mere mortals couldn't tell the difference - like a magician with a really cool trick that you see on a Sat night and cant wait to tell all your workmates about on the Mon morning.
Ya, the Clyde be THAT damn good.
Better than any Glove wanna be.

Re: *NEW* Retro Scavenger Draft - Countryboi's pick
This dude would drop buckets on your head from all over the floor. But that's not all he'd do. He'd dish the rock, pick your pocket, and hit the boards. He wouldn't stop until he flat out ran you off the court. They didn't call him the greyhound for no reason!
Rick Barry

He's awesome and he knows it.
In his first two years, he averaged a stupid 30/3/10. He then decided, "I'm too good for this contract, I'll go embarrass fools in the ABA". What did he do there, you ask? He put up a measly 34/4/9 while leading the Oaks to an ABA title.
After some nagging knee injuries, he decided to return to the Warriors. All he did upon returning was put up the best season of his career. He averaged 31 points a game, led the league in FT% and Steals, and handed out 6 assists on the way to sweeping the Hayes/Unseld led Bullets in the Finals (and being awarded the Finals MVP).
Filling my ABA category, Rick Barry's type A personality and style fit this team perfectly.

****!!!!!!!! You just snatched my favorite vintage NBA player, my idol and my next pick to make the ultimate defensive team.

Thank you! Just what I have been trying to say. I guess it's about time for me to make a "Gary Payton guarding MJ in '96 Finals" video.

I love "the book"
i read that rick barry chapter like 3 times this weekend debating whether or not i wanted to pair him next to oscar, barkley and cowens. i was planning on doing it and praying that oscar and barry didnt get into a racial war and praying that cowens and barkley didnt rip his head off the first time that they screwed up a perfect pass from barry and barry yelled at them. and praying that when my squad got to game 7 of the finals that he wouldnt tank the 2nd half by not shooting just to prove to the team that they couldnt win without him. but yeah, he was still THAT good. what a talented prick.
ps: i also read that gary payton chapter a couple of times. he would have been perfect for my "bull in the china shop" team, even if he broke all the desert plates and stole the silver forks.
