I know any big FA moves seem unlikely with Ricketts to most people, but I was thinking what would people prefer:
Big name pitcher: CJ Wilson
Big name 1B: Pujols, Fielder
I go back and forth, but think Pena could at least provide some lefthanded power at 1B on a much more reasonable contract, while our staff would look pretty good with Wilson, Garza, Dempster, Wells, Cashner/Sjmardz.
I have a whole litany of moves I'd like to see, but wondered what people's thoughts were on what they'd want the big splash to be.

Re: If there's a big move (besides GM)...
We need to add some young stud starting pitchers to this team. Z and Dempster are donezo (Demp pry has another year of mediocre ball left to finish out his contract). We have no idea what we have in Cashner to this point. I'm personally not a huge fan of CJ Wilson but he did put up some monster #'s this year and is a lefty which we don't have so would certainly be an upgrade that would be welcomed. Any idea on any other SP targets this offseason? CC? If I have to see Casey Coleman pitch another game for us I'm going to pull my hair out. We're a team in rebuilding mode right now so while the idea of prying Pujols away from the Cardinals sounds intriguing, I don't think it'd be worth it at this point. Fielder on the other hand....

CJ might be a solid addition but I think with the weak FA pitching market the Yankees will go hard after him and overpay. As much fun as it would be to take Pujols from the Cards I think there would be better ways to spend the money. Fielder is tempting but I would be worried that he would add too much weight over the life of the contract.

I only open up the wallet for one guy: CC.
We need a top of the rotation guy, and studs don't come along every day. CJ Wilson isn't a top level guy. NIce pitcher, good for the staff, but I don't pay him until he is the last piece we need.
I lock up CC, which rumor has it he is going to opt out, and wants back in the NL.
Everyone else, I look to stock pile talent, and get rid of all the head cases and locker room problems like Byrd and Z.

I agree. I would go HARD after CC. He's my #1 guy at this point. You see Byrd as a head case and locker room problem?

I would say that Byrd is the biggest moral problem on the team. Every time something happened, he was the one opening his mouth to the media. The mess with fukudome, Big Z, etc. I don't want him any where near our team next year. Google a little bit. He is a mess.

Hmmm, I might need some help in digging up this dirt because this is the first I've heard of such things. There are a number of guys I'd want gone before Byrd. He has only 1 year left on his deal and Jackson will likely take over for him soon anyways. I'd have no problem with getting rid of him but I don't see him as a locker room cancer.
