Probably about 90% of the league should be doing the same thing!!! if you want to be a good offensive player in the NBA unless you have Shaqs size you need a dependable jumpshot. The kid knows its a weakness of his and he's fighting to make it a strength. Thats how you become great. I wish him the best of luck, he's puttin the workin.

Holy crap THIS. God, I like Rose as a player and I think he's a class act, but the homers around here make me hate him for no reason.

+1000. I always like Rose, but the Rose-homers started turning me against him. After Wall was drafted, in every Wall thread, Rose homers would highjack it and start trying to put down Wall in order to prop up Rose. It was RIDICULOUS! Here are some examples.

LOL @ the guy saying Wall is only an above-average athlete.

Why does Rose have to be pulled into EVERY Wall thread?

I must be an unlucky man since I just see haters over here. No homer.
So perhaps some people could start wondering why they keep bashing Rose wantonly.

Re: John Wall makes 2000 shots a day
I saw Wall the other day at the game Chris Paul hosted. Wall has always had decent size for his position, and he looked fine out there, definitely bigger than CP3.
It was kind of hard to tell, because everyone wasn't going 100%, but Wall appeared to be the best athlete on the floor after LeBron.

Yet there were some people calling him only an "above-average" athlete last year.

Seriously though, John Wall's gonna end up better than Rose.
Oh cause you know this.
We need an on topic forum that deals with form, tendencies, aggressiveness...just overall game. It's easy to say...Myself, at 27, if he's shooting 2k shots a game, he's far behind me. I'm not comparing myself to him, Wall is a greatttttt basketball player. But it's just the very tip of the iceberg. A process that every basketball player goes through. It's how hard you work at individual skills and how you are able to apply them to the game WHILE adjusting to the speed of the game.
Wall shooting 2k is as meaningless as someone dribbling for an hour. It's a progress but not an indicator of greatness. No one makes it to the NBA by accident, there is something that gets them there. Height, athleticism, speed, handles, etc etc...It's how you take what you have whether it be on the practice floor or god given, and produce on the floor.
RealGM is so rooted in fandom that this news is something to bow down to. It's not, high school players, at this very hour, are getting up 2k shots. It will be Wall's ability to apply these skill sets to the NBA game and his his ability to adjust to the speed of the game that will make him great.
I think he can do it, for sure. But shooting making 2k shots a day is pretty much worthless unless you can do it with a hand in your face. Let's wait and see...hopefully his drive will carry his talents over to that top level...I love how stacked with talent the NBA is becoming!
It all depends on the practicing, if you dribble your ball to and from school, then of course its going to do very little. Practicing at game speed is key, no point taking shots you wouldn't take in a game. There's a major difference between shooting elbow jumpers after running the length of the court versus just camping there and having somebody rebound for you

What was Wall's midrange jump shooting percentage? I'm having a hard time believing Wall is making 2000 jumpers a day....I wonder how many jumpers he would have to take to hit 2k a day....

Wall needs to hit that weight room. Rose is a biggggg dude at that PG spot. When you can body someone and get your way it breeds confidence. It's great that Wall is working on his skills and striving to be a better player. But do not sleep on the fact that body> skill when you get to this level.
Wall will get bigger, that's for sure. Can he handle Rose's strength? That's to be seen. Pretty exciting time for the PG position.
Combine Measurements:
John Wall
6'4"(in shoes) 196 pounds Wingspan 6'9.25" standing reach 8'5.5"
Derrick Rose
6'2.5"(in shoes) 196 pounds Wingspan 6'8" standing reach 8'2.5"
Russel Westbrook 6'3.5"(in shoes) 192 pounds Wingspan 6'7.75" standing reach 8'4"
http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-dra ... s=1&sort=1
So how is Rose bigger than Wall? Rose is certainly stronger than Wall, but you would think that would translate in at rim finishing percentage. Wall had a better at rim finishing percentage, more FTA and more dunks than Rose as a rookie.
Secondarily, Wall has grown since the draft. In May, 2011, the Wizards' coach, Flip Saunders, said that Wall appeared to have grown a full inch since he was drafted, and was still growing. If you are dubious, check out pictures and videos from this summer of Wall standing next to Harden, DeRozan, and the like. John now appears to be every bit of 6'5". Wall has the best size of any high quality true PG in the league.
Saunders also said Wall appears to be an inch taller than he was when the Wizards drafted him, and that he might peak at close to 6-foot-6.

Wall making 2,000 jumpers a day does not mean Wall will become a great shooter. It does mean that John has a good work ethic. Even if John only becomes an average to good shooter, he will be a beast on offense given his length and athleticism.
With regards to the Rose vs Wall argument, I do think that Rose is better than Wall is, and that there is no certainty that Wall will reach Rose's level. I do believe however that with his size, athleticism and work ethic, Wall has the higher ceiling. I don't see any real point in the constant comparisons though. Rose is a great player. I hope Wall gets there too and we get to enjoy them both going head to head for a long time.

DOES NOT COMPUTE
Assuming 1shot takes 10s when you have someone to pass you the ball and you practice only catch and shoot, TAKING 2000 shots........ would take 5 hours and 30minutes and that is assuming he makes all of them.
plus work ethic, is one thing if you overwork yourself it may lead to injury so it's not smart either
700 is a lot man, really a lot
I don't know how many i was making but this summer like 4-5 days per week I shoot for 1h+ and well so it was probably around 200-400 makes per day and well it is a lot I can tell you my midrange was automatic for few weeks.
Now its damn cold and I only practice indoor and I can already feel the difference. So even if he makes tons of shots he has too keep working on it in the season at least half as hard as in off-season otherwise he may be inconsistent and if you are inconsistent you may lose confidence in your jumper.

I'm sure he doesn't take all of them at one time. I bet he splits them up over different sessions. Plus if you have a few rebounders it'll take less than 10 seconds a shot.

i do. i think he has a slow release and is a bit of a push shot. when he has to speed up his mechanics, he cuts short his follow through.

I don't know, i'm not saying it's perfect, but what i meant, i don't see any drastic error.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AI8tahR9T8
He shoots pull-up jumpers here, i don't see a particularly slow release, nor a bad follow through, the ball just doesn't go in.
I think he'll be a good, or at least above average shooter in his prime, he will never be Stephen Curry, but i don't think it will be a real problem for him like for Rondo.
doctorfunk: A shot doesn't take nowhere near 10 seconds for him, i'm pretty sure he has personal help, or his friends, with multiple rebounders it may not even take 5 seconds on average, more like 3 or 4.

I disagree here. I don't think Wall has a push-shot. Tyreke has a push shot. Quincy Miller has a push shot. John's problem is that he doesn't shoot with the same mechanics on every shot. Specifically, his mechanics look good on contested jumpers, but when left open, as a rookie, John's jumper looked like an awkward set shot.
We have had an extended look at Wall this summer, and the form on his jumper has looked better. My main critique of John's form this summer, and I've watched a lot of him, is that he always seems to fade. This is something he needs to work on, and that I am sure his coaches will emphasize over time.

I swear I saw a poster claiming that on an average, a catch and shoot jumpshot + rebound takes 10 seconds ...
no ... maybe if you're out of shape and it takes you a while to compose, gather and elevate BUT not a for a professional athlete.

tyreke has a sling shot. quincy does have sort of a push shot along the same lines as marion's.
when he slows down his mechanics, maybe as an attempt to get off a more accurate shot with more deliberate motion, it appears to be more of a push shot (or that set shot you were alluding to). i dont see the arc of his motion that i see in other good shooters. it goes from the shooting pocket, up, without turning it over.
when he cuts off his follow through, which he does often when his shot is rushed, it is more of a push shot as well.
