Top Rank will issue a $100,000 bonus to the winner of Donaire's next fight.

I guess that's one way of enticing a boxer to engage with Donaire...

That's good. Hopefully they match him with someone who actually wants to fight back.

Mayweather/Ortiz did 1.25 million buys. 2nd highest in non-heavyweight history after his bout with De La Hoya.

Bute vs Johnson
Angulo vs Kirkland
Suhweet. A little early to put the latter two into a guaranteed brutal fight? A weird choice from their managements.

I hate that both HBO and Showtime does this... I hope when Hershman goes to HBO this type of **** will end.

Um... non news given that Gamboa has had over 300 fights before Steward... he is who he is... No trainer is going to show him or teach him anything different.

There isn't anyone near his weight class that would make it somewhat interesting in my opinion.

Well that speaks to the fact that there are alot of people who really want Mayweather to lose in my opinion because real boxing fans knew how much of a mental midget Ortiz was given what we saw vs Miadana.

It's really quite remarkable how much boxing has fallen off the general sports radar screen. I'll probably sound like the old fogey I am now, but back in the day there was always a fight somewhere around the corner that broke out of the confines of the dedicated boxing fans. I watch more MMA now than boxing, would be shocking to anyone who knew me.

The best and worst thing to happen to boxing was HBO.... the day that you would see fights free on network TV was its heyday.... Fact is, that boxing is a niche sport because it narrowed it audience.

It's Benn vs McLellan. Someone's not going to be the same.

On that note, a lot of talk about a possible Gamboa/Rios fight at 135 early in 2012. I guess Bob won't let that "marinate" and it's a good decision. Rios is about to leave LW and there's nothing at 130 for Gamboa, who is looking to move up in weight. Exciting fight if they can make it happen.

Can't wait for Angulo/Kirkland. I like Angulo by 5th round KO and it will be a FOTY candidate.
I think Bute's skill will be a bit much for the older Johnson but I think Glen will make it a tough fight in spots for Bute. Bute by decision.

****... that was an amazing first round....
Major balls for Kirkland to go to Mexico and dominate Angulo.... He got up from a nasty knockdown 30 sec into the fight and then managed to get thru that storm and then kick ass....

Angulo may never be the same...as a boxer or a man. That was long-term damage done. The guy is 22 fights into his career with serious talent.

Re: Boxing Thread 3.0
WTF is with Johnson? That had to be a dive. For one thing, Bute clearly let up in the 12th (and maybe earlier in the fight). But he was just pitter-pattering for perception's sake at the very end there. Secondly, why the heck did Johnson never throw a lead hook? Bute would be there, fighting on the inside, with his right hand at his waist. I'm talking six inches from Glen's face, in a perpendicular stance, with his right hand at his waist. There were a couple moments where it was just completely inexplicable that he didn't get whacked.
And then for Johnson to claim that he won and was being robbed? What a disgrace to a career where he's genuinely been robbed. He's losing credibility.
