I still think if Memphis is serious about trading Rudy and saving money then Rudy for Barbosa, Bargs and 2013 first round pick is decent. Depending on how things play out, that pick could be pretty high. They also end up paying around 10 million per year instead of 16 million+ over the next 4 years.

I don't know whether these trades will work but heck lets do it ...
Raptors sign Gasol for some deal starting at 10 mill first year.
Raptors amnesty Jose.
Raptors trade DD/James Johnson + 2012 top 10 protected pick for Granger + Filler
Trade Kleiza/Ed/JVal rights+barbosa? to make it work to Philly for Iggy + fillers
*Jose's amnestied so that the cap space created can be used as a TPE to facilitate the Grangerdeal.
Bayless
Iggy
Granger/
Bargnani/Amir
Gasol/Amir

^^Drunk? Raps won't get Gasol starting at 10 million. And everything else doesn't make sense without Gasol. Not sure it makes sense with him. I personally am attached to JV and a high 2012 pick. Add in DD and it's gravy. Not to mention Ed. Two thumbs down.

Yeah these trades seem like their authors are getting impatient. They're not even realistic either. For starters, we don't have the capspace to offer Gasol on contract that starts at $10 million.
Let's just be patient and rebuild properly. What BC does in the next couple of days is going to be huge in terms of showing the fans where his head is at.

It really isn't about impatience. It is just a fun way to pass the time. I think the majority wants to rebuild the right way (including myself). I think people just read rumors and elaborate on them through trade discussion. Say, if rumor X happened, and I was the GM, I would do Y and Z.
But X has to happen essentially for Y and Z to happen. I may not want X to happen but would be willing to think about possibilities if it does.

Gasol is looking at a deal giving him 9 mill a year, a deal that starts at 10 would likely be around 11-11.5 mill a year.
Also, anyone know what the cap is at this year (is it still 58 mill?)? We are on books for 47 mill (according to Sham), so the way I see it we likely do have enough cap space to offer Gasol a contract at around 10.
If your going to trade for Gasol, might as well go all in and see if you can make a good team.
Granger is one of the better scorers in the league + a decent defender, Iggy is Lebron-lite and an elite defender. Bayless is no Jose and Gasol is a legit centre. A big man rotation of Gasol/Amir/Bargnani provides you everything you need from your bigs and we become one of the bigger teams in the league (though Bargs is still a pansy). Iggy/Granger is a dynamic (slightly expensive but hey its not my money) rotation at the wing. Give them a year to gel, and then add depth next year and your looking at a team thats about the same level as Atlanta is.
Though I do agree, we could ask for filler back with value (future picks or whatever else is on their roster).

^^ Sham's numbers don't include Jonas' cap hold of about 2.9 million. We also have some other cap holds, but I suspect we will renounce them. We're at almost exactly 50 million right now, giving us about 8 million of capspace (assuming that the projected 58 million is where they set the cap).

I wouldn't mind going after Lou Williams. Specially if Barbosa isn't staying for long.

Apparently we get our TPE deadline extended. Do you think the Raptors should use it, and if so, then who?
I wonder if we can get Rudy Gay as part of the TPE?

I don't think the Raptors should use it, since we can either use our capspace or our TPE, and both are about the same amount (the TPE may be a million more, but then we can't use it to sign any free agents, and can't combine it with more capspace if we happen to amnesty someone). Seeing as the TPE should only last a week into free agency before it expires, I'm pretty sure we will just let it expire.
As for Rudy, his salary is to big for our TPE...but we could potentially acquire him through other trades.

Why don't we take a shot at Bynum? He wants to have a bigger role on the team, and he's willing to play for any team. He's a NJ native so coming to Toronto would have the same feel (weather-wise), however it's obviously a much better city. He'd be a perfect fit for our team at 23-24 y/o, while being a true presence in the post as a big C - both on offence and defence.

Re: 2011-12 Toronto Raptors Trade Ideas Thread Pt II
^^ how would we trade for him?
I had proposed Bargs+Jose+Kleiza for Bynum+Blake+Walton deal before the lockout, but I don't think LA goes for it when they're hoping to use Bynum as a trade chip to land Dwight.
Gasol/Bargs
Odom/Bargs
Artest/Barnes
Kobe/Brown
Jose/Fisher
Bynum/Alabi
Amir/Ed
J.Johnson/Walton
DeMar/Barbosa
Bayless/Blake
+Jonas, and 2012 pick next year.
We have a solid young core to work with imo. Bayless gets the starting job for this year, Amir/Ed/Solo get more minutes with Bargs gone, and really our only bad contract is Walton then (who could be amnestied). I'm not sure how good Bynum would be for us right away (I think he could excel getting more touches offensively), but I think we would still get a high pick.
LA gives up Bynum, but a Gasol/Odom frontcourt has worked well for them in the past, and Bargs can play next to either. Also, perhaps he would do well playing under Messina again. They also get much needed help at PG, and turn the useless Walton into a semi-useful Kleiza.

Calderon is an upgrade.
Bargnani would be useful for them especially in Mike Browns defense system.
They would absolutely love to acquire DeMar, not that were offering.

OMG that is bad for Toronto. Really you think that team beats Miami or Chicago? They are a very thin team with tons of money tied up with Gasol, Granger, Bargs and Iggy to do anything. How would we build the bench? We would have to sign guys who would be minimum signings like Julian Wright and people like that. No thank you to that please.
Toronto doesn't need to make a major splash like this if were trading a pick + Jonas V in the same offseason I hope we do better then this. I mean that close to getting a Chris Paul or Howard package not a Granger or Iggy. People will be shocked to see what Iggy's value really is. Teams want cap friendly deals not massive contracts.
djsunyc - your package is too much for a unsigned Howard. If he were signed to a deal I would do it but trading 3 of your 4 best assets for a risk on Howard is wayyyyyyyyyyy too much for Toronto. I don't think Howard signs with the crap left over. We are no better then Orlando right now. In fact I say they are deeper then us and a better basketball market for TV exposure.
