Otis is a straight shooter and basically saying i'm not gonna let Dwight run this franchise like Lebron did Cleveland. The Magic have always and will always attempt to put the best talent around Dwight for him to win a ring. I have total and complete respect for a GM who isn't afraid to stand up to their super star, especially in a league turned super star crazy. .

Still would help us a lot in acquiring someone other than Paul though

Thank you! I am glad someone else is finally saying it. Gortat, Pietrus, and Carter are not better then any of these other teams offers. Gortat's trade value is viewed way to highly on this board. Granted Orlando could piece together a more attractive offer. Lets say Gortat, Anderson, JJ, and Vince's partially guaranteed contract, but can you honestly say that is better then the Clippers or Warriors offer........only chance is if Paul says he wont sign an extension with anyone but the Magic and Knicks. Then Orlando's parts trump NY's in a trade.

Who says we HAVE to get CP3? We'd have other options if we had those parts. Instead we are stuck with Hedo and one knee Gilbert.

Otis would have made the Arenas for Lewis trade regardless. And his mindset was win now, so if you look at the deal he made with the Suns, on paper it gave them a better chance to compete last year. Do I agree with the trade....HELL NO, but in all honesty we would not be in too much better a position. Point being Rudy Gay or Iggy + Holliday/Williams still beats out Orlando's offer centered around Gortat.

Point being the Magic would have more trade flexibility, but it would not help them much with the players they are currently after, if you are comparing it to what other teams would be willing to part with.

DJRajX wrote:So after reading the past couple pages... IF GSW trades for CP3... we are still in the running for Ellis, with a S&T w/ J-Rich?

I can live with that. Even if GSW doesn't trade Curry (and fillers) for CP3... I'd still keep going after CP3 OR Ellis...

I think the interesting part about that is that I think there would still be a chance to trade for Josh Smith, Millsap, or Iggy if those opportunities arose.

I honestly believe the Magic exhausted all trade options with Gortat. If they could have gotten a better deal they would have. I will say this though, we could have gotten a lot more from Gortat if we had traded him after matching the Mavs offer sheet. We could have brought in a Caron Butler(although I believe we burned that trade bridge with Dallas), or a young wing player.

Would you guys be comfortable with attaining Monta, Josh Smith and Joe Johnson? What about just Joe and Josh? I think it's entirely possible that we could have the following.

Either
Pg-Monta
SG-Johnson
SF-Q-Rich
Pf-Smith
C-Dwight

I think that team could win the championship

or

PG-Jameer/Arenas
SG-Johnson/Arenas
SF-Q-Rich
PF-Smith
C-Dwight

how would that go down?

i dont think we have enough for Josh by himself, let alone Josh & Joe. Plus, theres the doubt the Hawks would trade in division...

+1,

People hammered LeBron after Shaq quip came out about him getting special treatment from their GM and coach but you guys want Otis to do the same thing? No. Dwight can give them insight and make suggestions but it isn't his job to make decisions. I love the part where Otis said he talks to ALL his players and get's ALL of their insight. It's nice to have someone in the FO that treats the team as a TEAM.

Otis pieced together a finals team /discussion. Sometimes we get spoiled as fans. Example we've had Dwight for 7 years so naturally guys like Chandler, Bynum or Bogut look horrible when the reality is they're pretty good centers. (Not a fan of Bynum's injury history).

Swapping Otis out doesnt guarantee anything and I like that he refuses to be held hostage by his star player and his willingness to try and improve the team when he can. Dwight needs to man up and make a decision. Either have the stones to finish what you started or go ride someones coat tails. Standing by my opinion that he's not winning a title this year regardless so if he doesnt want to wait one more year and do it in Orlando then he just doesnt want to be in Orlando anymore which is fine. Tell Otis.

Kind of a slow news day on that Magic side of things huh? Calm before the storm (Dec. 9?)

^ I agree but I doubt he (iggy) will be moved before the trade deadline if at all this season Collins did a very good job with that group last season and I could see them making a go of it to truly see where they are

The Spurs have decided to use the amnesty clause on contract of Richard Jefferson, league sources tell Y! Sports. He has 3 years, $30M left.
