Looks like we lost the Battier sweepstakes to that stupid Heat team down south

From Battier:

The Lockout gave me a lots of time to consider what was important to me at this stage of my life and career. Over the last week, I've played out every scenario in my head over and over. It always came back to one thing for me: a winning role. I am appreciative of all the kind words and recruiting pitches over the last week, thank you!!

This was a exciting process and after much deliberation, I would like to quote the great poet Jimmy Buffett and take my chances "Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season"

More about teams dropping out of the CP3 race:

Celtics
“A source who has spent time recently with Paul insisted yesterday that the Hornets star considers the Celtics a non-starter for his career, and has no intention of signing an extension to play with the C’s in the long term. The team is simply too old to stir his interest. “Their window is just too short for him,” said the source. “He looks on them as having one year left to do something, and that’s it.”
Source

Knicks
No matter how badly Paul wants to join forces with Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire, it seems clear that he realizes he can’t get to New York via trade this season
Source
@alanhahn Alan Hahn
Reports say #Knicks are out of CP3 trade sweepstakes. Way too much competition and no assets. Was always going to be a FA move.

Warriors
A source confirmed an ESPN.com report that talks between the Warriors and Hornets regarding Paul slowed on Wednesday, but I'm told not to read too much into it. I can't see Golden State giving up its young core of third-year guard Stephen Curry, rookie guard Klay Thompson and second-year forward Ekpe Udoh without assurances that Paul will stay beyond this season, and that is only likely to happen if they land Chandler.
Source

Clippers
The question then becomes who would head the Hornets' way in such a deal. Giving up too much (as in shooting guard Eric Gordon and/or center DeAndre Jordan in a sign-and-trade) could affect Paul's willingness to stay there long-term.

I have a feeling the Heat will become a graveyard of aging players who are declining. Kinda like the Magic, but they have Bosh, Wade and Lebron, lol.

Shane Battier is still a solid defender but he isn't what he used to be.

LOL @ Larry Hughes

However, remember he did have his best season playing next to Gil.

Yeah, it's Schmitz but I actually like the idea of Battie coming back (esp @ 10-15 mins/game).

http://ht.ly/7SWUp

This morning, Sentinel’s Brian Schmitz highlighted one player who could fill a need:Tony Battie. A former Magic player, Battie could at the very least fill the role that Malik Allen occupied last season as a practice player or emergency option. But even at 35 years old, Battie could be effective in spot duty as Howard’s backup. Howard also respects Battie greatly, so that’s a bonus.

Not concerned about Battier. He really declined fast last season. Really slowed down. No longer a lock down defender. Miami might be good for him in that he won't be asked to play more than 25mpg.

What I am curious about is that Bosh has gained 15lbs of muscle and has publicly stated that he won't mind playing some center. If that is the case, then I bet Battier or Lebron would spend some time at PF with Haslem.

Maybe Battie can knock some sense into Dwight. Since the departure of Hill/Battie, the Magic haven't had a true vet to guide Dwight. Jameer is the leader but Dwight needs someone else to look up to *no pun intended*.

Ain't that the sad truth. No teams are willing to cut the Magic a deal. Good Free Agents avoid the Magic like the plague.

If Dwight came out and said he wanted to stay and helped recruit players, the Magic wouldn't be in such a bad situation.
