Re: Official Rap/Hip Hop Thread III
This Common album is ridiculous. I think I like Be better, but it's close. This is grittier and tougher...but still has qualities and subjects to compete. Wow...might be my new favorite album of the year up there with W.A.R. and Section 80.

Re: Official Rap/Hip Hop Thread III
No idea, but Fab is releasing a mixtape soon (showing on hotnewhiphop as upcoming mixtape). I downloaded the Common (youtube to mp3) so I can listen to it when I go to the gym and then when I shoot later. Loved it the first time I listened to it.
XV releasing more great stuff. Can't wait until he releases "Kid With the Green Backpack." One of my favorite artists.

I doubt anyone cares besides me, but Tinie released his Happy Birthday EP today. It's short but very good.

Action Bronson, Black Milk, Danny Brown, The Doppelgangaz, Elzhi, Folk & Stress, The Left, P.O.S. I'm sure you know some of these names, but they seem to fit with what you have going there.

Yea I have the first three. Ill check the others out. You know me so well MP
This is obvious but it really is night and day comparing mainstream hip hop to underground. I thought rap really was dead a few years back when I was lazy and all I heard was mainstream, but there are some straight gems to be found if you look for them. Same goes for rock and basically any genre these days. If you want good music you have to put the work in to find it, because 9/10 you wont find it on the radio or MTV. Its a shame thats what its come to though. Thank God for the internet.

Re: Official Rap/Hip Hop Thread III
To me it's all the internet age really, you can find anything you want. All you really need is a website that has music reviews, a reviewer that you mostly agree with and a little buzz that goes with it. I mean the majority of the stuff you posted are established names to be, making Shabazz the only exception but some believe that his album is the best of the year.
I mean P.O.S. is part of Doomtree.
Black Milk, Danny Brown and Elzhi are elite Detroit guys. Elzhi was with Slum Village for an album and Danny Brown has really emerged. Black Milk is what Dilla would be these days to a degree.
Action is 3/4ths Ghostface, with a sprinkle of Brother Ali and Paz on top to me with a love for food.
Folk & Stress are brothers that just bring the lyrics all day.
Doppelgangaz are NY people, but don't have a NY sound. I personally enjoy them a lot.
The Left is another Detroit guy who had one of the best albums last year.
I'm sure that you will find yourself enjoying half of these guys at least.

Yea I youtubed some of them and I like what hear. What site do you get your music from? Hotnewhiphop? I like Sputnikmusic because it has stuff from all genres of music, and its mainly user driven. Last FM and Pandora are good for matching me up with stuff too. And of course Youtube.
EDIT: Dled all those guys. Fire. Exactly what I was lookin for MP. Thanks.

Usually 2Dopeboyz, Kevin Nottingham and HHDX for reviews. Between those three, the rap thread in the media lounge it's hard to overlook anything. I use Sputnik more so for rock albums, id usually let the month pass ans see what gets a good review there.

Yea Im more Rock than Hip Hop, so thats why Sputnik is perfect for me. It has everything but emphasizes Rock a little more. I just like the way its organized. Pitchfork is alright if Im feelin hipster but most of it just too soft for me.
I didnt think you were into Rock much though. We dont have a Rock thread to talk about it. Theres an Indie one that hasnt been bumped in a minute and I started a Metal thread a while back, but no straight up Rock. It would be better if we just had one big Rock thread where all different genres from Indie to Metal can get talked about, or even just a Music thread in general that includes Hip Hop and everything to keep it easy. Would be kind of cluttered to keep bumping a bunch of different threads ya know?
How about it fellas? You want to turn this into a General Music thread or you want to keep it only Hip Hop? Just a suggestion. Im interested to see what other stuff you like. Its not like you still wont be able to post Hip Hop. Variety is the spice of life!

Re: Official Rap/Hip Hop Thread III
You can try to make the rock thread, however to me personally that's even more diverse than rap/hip hop then again you never know where it's going to end. But yeah I listen to rock, but rap a little more. The thing with rock is that they never let loose singles really to gather buzz, so you really gotta give the albums a listen to see if you like it. At least with rap their constantly letting go of singles.

Well it generally takes longer to make a Rock album than a Hip Hop album, and with Rock its usually about the whole album rather than just a bunch of individual songs or singles. At least with the good bands. I listen to a lot of long Prog-ish stuff so singles arent exactly what they're about, and I like that about it. I know what you mean though. Stuff like the Black Keys are putting out some really good singles. They are about the only good band in the mainstream right now but it took them a while to break out.
Would you be against just having one Music Thread though? Most other teams' forums have one thread and it seems to work well. If not its straight, but like I said I wouldnt want to keep bumping another music thread on a basketball forum. Just having one seems to make sense.
