Shahid Khan called Blaine Gabbert the Jaguars' franchise QB

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Thu Jan 5, 2012 2:35 am

Owner Shahid Khan called Blaine Gabbert the Jaguars' franchise quarterback Wednesday night, and said the organization plans to use the offseason to ensure Gabbert realizes his potential.
This was on the same day Khan bought all of the Jaguars' franchise. "We want to develop him and we need to give him tools and a dedicated coach," said Khan. "I think he's going to be a great quarterback. I think he is our franchise QB." We're giving Khan the benefit of the doubt and assuming he doesn't know a lot about football. He's going to have to find a coach with incredible self-confidence to go through with an undertaking like this. Source: John Oehser on Twitter

I have to disagree.

I think you gotta atleast give him a chance and bring in some decent receivers. Drafting him so high, obviously its a huge commitment so i don't blame them for not wanting to give up on him so soon.

If you draft a QB in the top 10, you're usually not going to give up on him after 1 season.

Agree you have to give him some more games, but I was not impressed at all with his play

He was never supposed to play this year. And their offensive line really fell off too, with Eben Britton apparently done and their guards struggling in pass protect.

Just a hunch but I think the disappointing rookies this year get a pass because of the lockout. The QBs moreso. But next year Gabbert and Ponder, and even Locker, Kaepernick, and Mallett--the higher round guys that didn't play--had better markedly improve or else their leashes with theri teams are going to be short.

I agree. But I think the fan bases of those teams with young QB's who need to develope will not be so forgiving. They saw what Andy Dalton and Cam Newton did, and they are very pushy for a QB who can show that promise immediately. Not fair, but they are going to be compared to these 2 QB's with whom they got drafted for years.

If Blaine Gabbert was ugly he would have been a 4th round pick. Just because he looks like a QB doesn't mean he is one. He was the NFLs LVP this season. He was a mediocre college quarterback, doesn't have great accuracy, decision making, or pocket presence. Hes just not very good at anything and will always suck.

I'd give up on him after a year if I was them, but I also never would have wasted a first and second rounder on him either.

I doubt things change much for him during the future. The Jags need to get it right during the upcoming draft and in future drafts because it's not like they've had a good draft in recent memory.

I would still kill small animals to have Blaine Gabbert's hair. Dude's mane is incredibly awesome.

Never liked Gabbert coming out of Missouri but people are being too hard on him. Just because Dalton and Newton excelled with a short camp doesn't mean all the Rookie QB's are to be judged on the same grading scale.

His WR options consist of Taylor Price and Jarrett Diliard. He has horrible coaching and was thrown into the wolves.

If Barkley came out they would be guaranteed one of Barkley/Griffin III and I'm not so sure Khan wouldn't go with a 1st Rd QB then. Especially with the new rookie CBA being a lot more flexible.
