FA Moves?

Post#1 » by ninjabelly » Mon Jan 23, 2012 7:57 pm

Just a thread for suggestions on moves we should make.

Guys we need to resign for sure:

Goldson
Costanzo
Ginn(Obvious after last night)
Rogers
Snyder
Spillman(RFA)
Alex Smith

Maybe:
Brooks(Depends on $$ he wants)
Grant(decent backup if he doesnt need much) (RFA)
Reggie Smith(for depth? could be replaced easily through draft though)
Morgan(Depends what other WRs we get)

Gone:
Gooden
Peele
Rachal(lol)
Norris(we have miller now)
Swain
Williams
Brock(replace in draft)

Moves i think we should try and make:
Sign FA WR Steve smith(Speedy guy who had good hands, our down field target from here on)
Move up in draft and take WR Alshon Jeffreys (good big target, can go up and get things)

Our WR's would be up to far after that in my opinion
WR1: Smith
WR2:Jeffreys
WR3:Crabtree
WR4:Williams/Morgan
TE: VD and Delanie

I'd like to sign Smith or Colston.

Me too, if we go for colston though i think we need to acquire a deepthreat or speedy reciever via the draft, can anyone tell me about michael floyd, i've never seen him play but he seems highly touted.

This upcomming draft is filled with WR talent as well, i can almost guarantee the 9ers come away with at least 2 new WR's

I would love a good vet receiver. If it comes to the draft I would go with a big target guy. We are terrible on 3rd down and in the redzone. Give us two big short passing threats and we will be golden. (VD being the first obviously)

In other news I heard we are offering Smith an 8-11 mil a year contract for 2-3 years.

We have a ton of guys we need to resign. Hopefully they all want to come back.

I think Rogers said that the 49ers are his priority, and would even take a "discount" to remain on the team. So that's one critical part of the secondary.

That would be amazing! I think we need a better shut down corner to play their number 1. I like rogers but he wasn't fast or skilled enough to keep up with cruz and a few other guys this year. I would love to move him to number 2 but I'm not sure there are any guys like that available this year.

yeah, it'd be too pricy though, id rather not give up that much because there's still talent for WRs in middle rounds

there's not any corners available in FA better than rogers i dont think, unless you trade up for claiborne or kirkpatrick, but i dont know if either are better.

Yeah I wouldn't risk it. Who knows how those guys turn out anyways. We still have a few young guys on our roster that might be able to improve.

To the OP...

I dont know you and I can only suppose you're as big a fan as I am...

HOWEVER...

If you think re-signing Ahmad Brooks is simply a maybe...then you need to be drug tested daily. That guy is a flat out beast who plays every defensive snap and was 3rd on the team in sacks. He stuffs the run, plays TE's well, covers in the flats and gets great pressure on the QB. He is as solid a 3-4 OLB as there is in football. Resigning him is NOT a maybe...it is a MUST.

The problem with re-signing Ahmad Brooks is that he's going to be looking for a big pay day, don't know if we're going to be willing to allocate money there when we have larger problems specifically at WR

Going in another direction here . . . there are some really talented guys who are on the market that I would love to at least have the Niners talk to.

OG Nicks from NO

WR Vincent Jackson
Desean Jacson (going to be franchised but I still love him)
Dwayne Bowe

Also Mario Williams. (Can play OLB in our d.

I think the priority has to be on our guys but if we can lock them up then we might as well take a shot at some big names. We have a good amount of cap space so it might be possible.
I really like Iupati and Snyder is a quality player but I would definitely move him to the bench if it meant Nicks coming over.
The receiver need is obvious.
Mario Williams is an amazing player. Could you imagine our LBs with Willis Bowman Smith and Williams? Pass rush would be insane and obviously we could still stuff the run. I doubt he's even on our radar but I'm just saying.

I agree that we need a veteran WR, but let's not forget that we have Josh Morgan coming back who started out the season great until his injury. Also, Harbaugh said that his system takes 2 years to understand and master. One of the reasons I think some of the WR play was off was because of the lack of practice and study of Harbaugh's system. Once they get an off season, I think the WRs and Smith will really start to sync up. So where I agree we should get a veteran WR, I'm not sure how much I would give up. Wasn't that supposed to be Braylon Edwards anyways....?

Also, I'm really excited to see how Kyle Williams responds to the playoff debacle. My prediction is that he works his ass off this off season and comes out playing great next season. Just a little side note.

Morgan is a quality player but I don't think we can rely on him to be the answer. I really like Crabtree and I think K Will has a lot of potential still but I still believe there is a whole. Harbaughs system may take some time but 1 catch by a WR in the NFC championship game is not acceptable. I would prefer another big target guy for 3rd downs and goal line situations. I know this is what Braylon was supposed to be but his injury slowed him down.

If we can resign the bulk of our guys then this is the biggest whole.

New guy here on the boards but I've been reading as a guest for a while now.

Mike Wallace is my current favorite player and I can definitely see him as a number 1 in SF. He has stated that he could see himself being either a patriot or a 49er, he also has a good relationship with Crabtree.

He's a RFA and a reach, but with the right moves, it is possible that he lands here. I wouldn't mind trading away our first rounder or so.

Many fans believe that he wouldn't fit well within our system and that Alex Smith lacks the arm that would be compatible with deep threat Wallace. But I believe.

Upgrades at WR has to be among the biggest FA priorities.

I'm at the point where I'm comfortable using Crabtree and bust in the same sentence. He's may not be completely worthless, but I don't ever see him as being a #1 receiver on any decent team. Getting at least one of the guys that may be on the market (Mike Wallace, Marques Colston, Mario Manningham, Vincent Jackson) seems like it should pay the biggest return on investment for the coming season.
