Um after next season, so 1 season and we have money for a very solid FA class, unless something dumb happens

i don't see it. we are paying too much money for backups in jj davis duhon and q. nelson and anderson will need a new deal and turk will still be on the books. otis would have to get very creative...LOL

Summer of 2013 is our next shot. The summer when Otis extended Dwight & Jameer, and signed 'Shard, he lined up all the contracts to expire in 2013 to make another FA run. Unfortunately, he miscalculated Dwight's option year and we're here now. Jameer, Turk (forfeited his last year option to allow trade from Tor to Phx), JJ expire that summer. If we can convince Dwight to opt-in to his last year, we may have a great shot.

i don't see us getting under the cap. if that was even an option otis wouldn't of siged jrich and davis to 4 yr deals. We could of had JR for 4 mil on a 2 year deal instead.

I don't think he miscalculated, he was just too trustworthy in Dwight. Dwight at the time leading up to and after the resigning was preaching he was going to stay in Orlando for his entire career and would never leave. Contractually, Otis began making mistakes with Duhon, then followed up with J-Rich and Davis. I still think the J-Rich deal was done for Fegan, Dwight's agent. It's a great deal for the money, but too many years and no options.

Even if we have J-Rich and Davis, it's only 11 million of the cap for a possible starting 2 and 4. There are worse players on larger contracts all over the league.

That all depends on what we do with Anderson's contract. In the 2013 summer, yes, we'll still have Duhon & Q but they'll become an expiring asset to play with. People forget the tax is about to get ridiculously steep, so expirings will hold much more value around that time.

Gonna be an interesting 2.5 weeks till 3/15.

You see how J-Rich gets 1,000 more dollars than BBD in his 4th year? Probably something Fegan specifically requestion. Really, it sucks to have guys on 4 year deals, but BBD and J-Rich at ~6 million a year is not bad.

$17,370,227 without options or Hedo in 2013. Add 20 mil for a superstar name Dwight, 37 million.

$30M under the proposed cap. :o

And with Chris Paul already opting into his last year, he'll be available in 2013. As will Monta, Josh Smith, James Harden, Iguodala, Stephen Jackson; 4 of which are guys Dwight said he wanted on this team. If he waits 1 year, he'll get whoever he wants.

Paul
Redick or Harden
Iggy
Anderson/Davis
Dwight

Someone, please correct me if I'm wrong, or confirm if what I'm saying is correct, but Turk forfeited his last year's option, in order to allow the trade from Toronto to Phoenix. With that, Turk now expires in 2013. He was so unhappy up there, he waived his option to go play somewhere else.

If Dwight walks, the Magic have to just endure next season before they have major cap room summer of 2013 and can do whatever they want, maybe even have enough for 2 max contracts and a top 5 draft pick on their own. I say keep Dwight and force him to walk and be the bad guy.

I'd MUCH rather go this route than do the NJ trade and get draft picks. Draft picks in this league are garbage. Give me the opportunity to sign 1-2 max PROVEN players in this league any day over draft picks on some kids with potential.

According to the Republic, Turkoglu is waiving roughly $5 million of a trade bonus in his contract and reducing the guaranteed money in the final season -- which was worth $12 million in 2013-14 -- to facilitate his move to the Suns.

so its reported he declined $6mil of his last year to make it work (other articles), plus the $5mil trade kicker..

Hmm Dwight sounds positive

LMAO

If it’s about big-city living in Los Angeles or New York, Martins has a solution for that, too:

“I’ve even said to him, ‘OK, you want to live in a bigger city, great. Let’s work through this,’” Martins said. ” ‘During a course of a season, you’re home, on average, 60 nights. So if you want to live in a bigger city, go buy a place in a big city and live there in the offseason.’ ”

This was my argument all off season, through the lock out, and continues to now. Granted some comments Dwight made have swayed me a little but I always come back to that. He can live wherever he wants in off season. My favorite was how Lakers fans said his desire to make movies is why he wants to be with the Lakers. Like he can film full length movies during the season. I think that whole bigger city living issue is a bigger deal than its being given credit for. Good job Alex.

I've been thinking the same. The future of the Magic is bright with or without Dwight. If we don't trade him we could suck for a season then have a high draft pick, and cap space for 2 max deals.

Think about it. Imagine if the Magic could move JRich also. Or, just the long term contracts like BBD.

Then, give the Magic a developing season with players like Ryno, JJ, Ish, Liggins, Harper, Clark getting some major burn.

Then, when they retool in 2013, they will have chemistry with the young guys plus some solid vets to make the next step. Hopefully, Otis would not be involved in this kind of rebuilding. Maybe let Stan have more of a say in the type of players he would be most comfortable with.

The funny thing is he wants to live in Orlando in the offseason, like just about every other sports figure. He's said that numerous times. Strange.
