CCJ, it was finally time for a coaching change. Should it have been as early as you wanted ? Maybe. Who knows. I think Flip did good things for this team. Most of which was simply being a credible HC through a tone of bad crap. Having absorbed all of that, it was time for a clean slate. Yeah Randy was here, but he wasnt HC. I didnt really have a problem with them keep Flip as long as they did but I also think is was time for a change when they made it.

I like the moves Randy is making and I like his different voice and style. And I like that he had to balls to bench Nick and McGee. I think he will be equally tough on all the players moving forward. As he should be. That is the way a good HC is. There is no kissing up. You see what Dallas was doing to Odom ? Hell, they even came down on Dirk. These kids have been coddled long enough. Randy has set that expectation. If you are not going to play the right way, you are not going to play.

Over his last 3 games Wall has only 6 turnovers total. TO's have been Wall's big problem all season so hopefully this is the start of a downward trend.

Nice game tonight, 20/14 with only 2 turnovers.

In the 24 games Wall has played from the OKC win to now, he has averaged 18.9 points, 8.1 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 4.1 turnovers while maintaining a TS% of .556. He has averaged 36.9 minutes per game during that stretch.

Give him another summer to work on his game plus a small forward who can shoot, and Wall will average 20, 10 and 5 with a TS% north of 56 and a turnover rate hopefully just below 4.

He's a bust we should have dealt him for Austin Daye and a 1st when we had the chance.

On the season Wall's PER is now 18.89 (better than Rose's second season) and his TS% is 52.

Meanwhile Rubio's game seems to have fallen off a cliff. Over the last 5 games he is averaging 5.6 ppg shooting 18.4%. On the season he is shooting 35.5% from the field. Anyone still think he is better than WAll?

:P

(To be slightly fair to Rubio, the incredible press of games was going to hit any rookie hard... I expect he'll not be this bad for his career, and will be significantly more reliable next season. Um, but yeah, Wall is a marginally less creative passer who's better at every other facet of the game and has the athletic gifts of a superhero.)

John Wall blasts teammates

“We lost the game before we went on the court,” Wall told the Times.  ”Too much joking in the locker room, too much joking through warm-ups.”

I am not sure that qualifies as blasting his teamates. I do like the fact that he is addressing the obvious lack of professionalism on this team. A culture change is definitely needed.

He used the inclusive "we." That's not blasting teammates, unless he said a lot more than that little blurb.

How much progress has really been made. These were the pieces that lined up when the season started. I guess Wall has made a lot of progress so that shouldnt be over looked.

Randy
Wall
Mason
Mo
Booker/Lewis - Booker Im sure is on board but he is not very vocal.
Ronny if he was healthy. So that is Wall and all the vets plus Booker.

They are clearly on one side.

That seems to be the core and I wouldn't be surprised at all if Randy starts playing them more.
Why not go with the vets and let the younger players prove they are worthy. To much has been given to players who didnt earn it.

You can get total numbers for any stretch of games from this website:
http://bkref.com/tiny/jVp2i

Unfortunately, it doesn't give you his averages or the advanced stats. You've got to plug the numbers into a spreadsheet to figure that part out.

Some of us have been using this.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/plus/

Just type in the name of the player and shot finder. It sorts by the game numbers or by month.

That wasn't really throwing teammates under the bus, but even if it was I wouldn't blame him. They suck and should get blasted. The big culprits like Young, McGee, and Blotch won't/shouldn't be here for long anyway.

John gave a lot of credit to the second unit -- over and over. He also points out -- hey, i didn't have it going, I knew it so I didn't shoot us out of the game. 1-8 hurts a lot less than 3-16 or something.

He didn't Kobe his team.

Interesting contrast to the Blatche thread with a pretty forgiving approach towards Wall.

Wall's poor game, as Randy Whitman noted, was due to a the Lakers defending the PnR differently. That Wall was completely unable to adjust is part of my ongoing concern with him and the lack of BB IQ at that position. A few turnovers would be acceptable, but Wall's game was rendered completely ineffective against a 36 year old PG who can't move.

All that is, I guess, forgivable. But his bad body language and quiting on plays is not.

On more than one occasion Wall followed a terrible turnover with very visible pouting and not bothering to get back on defense at all. I should cross-post this in the Blatche thread, because since I didn't hear any booing we have a little bit of a double standard there.

I will be very curious to see how quickly Wall adjusts, because you can be sure that some of our upcoming opponents will be employing the same PnR defensive strategy.

It's not a double standard. They are on nowhere near equal footing in terms of effort, attitude, work ethic, desire, and competitiveness.

Whereas Wall's occasional poor body language and extremely rare lack of effort (extremely rare) are because he is frustrated with bad, unmotivated teammates who suck at basketball, Blatche's constant lack of effort and body language are entirely due to lack of conditioning and giving a ****. There really is no comparison.

Its sad that such a simple concept needs to be explained. Image
