08:18 AM ET 03.08 | Otis Smith, staring down the deadline to move Dwight Howard, may just run out of time on purpose. I'm sure some of the "Magic resolve" chatter that's been gaining traction in recent days about how increasingly determined they are to keep him beyond the deadline is at least partly designed as a means of trying to improve the offers that come in before the deadline. Yet it seems evident that the stronger belief in the Magic Kingdom is that it's better to keep Dwight and face the worst-case-scenario consequences of losing him for nothing if there's so much as a 10 percent chance of him changing his mind. The vibe coming from the Magic is that owner Rich DeVos prefers that scenario, frightening as it is.

If it's true Dwight's ($400 mill) shoe deal in Brooklyn is larger than DRose's, plus Russian billionaire promi$e$, can't blame D12 for move.

This kind of stuff us complete bull. No shoe company should have that much control of where a player goes, but that's the world we live in.

If we hang on to him and don't make any changes to the roster, we will become the laughing stock of the league....

Lol, would have to avoid the GB for the whole summer.

Wow........If so, I guess we can't really blame him.

I doubt it, though.

There is no way they double Roses deal. That is no way true.

I always figured he was going to NJ because he had under the table deals with Prokhorov. I never figured they would double Rose's shoe contract.

If true it really is a no brainer to sign there, and that extra year in Orlando is not that big of a deal.

There is no way that Addidas gives a big man that big a contract. Big men are not good shoe salesman. Guys like Rose who are perimeter players that are flashy sell shoes.

Also do you really want to put trust into a shady Russian guy?

Exactly this is a guard game now, not a big man game. There is 0 chance that they double roses deal.

Rose has 0 personality and never smiles. Dwight is one of the five most recognizable faces in the NBA. This kind of makes sense. What I don't get is why it is tied to Brooklyn. This is the internet age. People don't care who the local guys are anymore. People in Atlanta get stabbed over Jordans. People in Kansas are die hard Heat fans. Being in a bigger market doesn't make Dwight any more or less appealing, but his choices leading up to that, might. The brains behind Adidas, don't seem to smart.

there is no way he gets that kind of deal as a big man imo.......but man it's a funny thing about endorsements....Dwight is definitely NOT hurting for endorsements right now....

So true. I go to school in Tallahassee, and I can't tell you how many people in here are Knicks or Heat or Lakers fans....

Or how many people tease me daily about Dwight leaving.....as if we don't live just a few hours away from Orlando. Hell, some of them are even FROM Orlando.

They don't buy shoes because of how well he smiles. It is all about flashy play. Kobe is a not the most media friendly guy either.

I know a ton of sneaker freaks and not one has a pair of dwights. Big men are not what is in right now.

Isnt dwight the player with the most endorsements right now, not size of money but number of deals?

Kyler is saying BS is wrong and the deal isnt worth near that. Says the same thing everyone else does, bigs don't sell shoes.

Steve Kyler ‏ @stevekylerNBA
I have had this conversation with Adidas... they do not get involved in where guys play... they do not bonus guys for market ...

Of course they say that, they don't want to have it look like they are manipulating competitive balance in the NBA.

People are more likely to buy something that represents NY. The team the player is on matters when companies are trying to move gear. Brooklyn sells way more shoes and clothes in addidas mind then Orlando does, it's that simple. For example, throw an NY on a pair of Dwight's and all you "sneakerheads" probably go grab a pair. NY sells.

That being said there is now way it is $400 million. That number is ignorant, and BS should be emberassment that he "reported" it. Didn't think it was possible, but the dude lost even more credibility.

In all fairness, are you more aware of what shoes Carmelo wears now as opposed to when he was in Denver?

That's more of an adidas thing. The only pair of adidad shoes i can readily identify are the Crazy 8s. has nothing to do with Rose or Dwight. I just don't think their marketing is effective. This Ken Jeong commercials never made a mark on me, I guess.
